The El Rey is a wonderful, gracious, comfortable spot in Santa Fe. We always stay here when staying in Santa Fe. It is historic, part of the buildings and grounds date back to the 20's I believe. There are lovely gardens surrounding the property, trees shading the lawns and keeping the area quiet. The staff is warm, efficient and responsive. There is a huge outdoor pool and several hot water spas distributed throughout the property. Another attribute is that it is next door to The Pantry a great coffee shop! There are fancier places in Santa Fe but no better.
Can't think of a thing.
The hot tub is fabulous! The breakfast is great and especially the breakfast staff.
The wi fi signal was not strong enough in my room.
Price very reasonable
Room was extremely dark, even after mu request they could not switch me to a different room.
It's a lovely place with gardens and the Route 66 history. We thought it was pretty and romantic.
Suggest earplugs if you are in the front rooms. We use earplugs a lot on our travels anyway.
Wonderful large room with a great balcony overlooking walking gardens and swimming pool. Our room was very clean and all of the amenities very appropriate and convenient.
The staff was very polite n professional. The room was very well made up and clean. The garden area was relaxing.
It entry was semi difficult, depending on the time if day. Very heavy traffic.
Staff was accommodating.
Heater in room did not work.
Jose at the front desk was a pleasure to deal with and the tortilla lady at breakfast is a sweetheart! Thank you for a wonderful nostalgic weekend in my old home town!
All the bulbs were incandescent. Although I do not prefer cfl the savings is significant.
We loved the El Rey Inn. Beautiful grounds, and friendly staff. A friend and I were vacationing there. I sometimes travel alone and would have felt very safe if I had been alone. Many of the guests seemed to be more "mature". We didn't notice any children, but we were there during the week and during school session.
Make sure you know what kind of room you are getting. They are not the traditional two double beds or one king like newer hotels. Their main rooms are one double or one queen bed. The front staff was able to get us a room with two double beds, but there was a price increase.
Had friendly, helpful staff even before we got there who helped us over the phone and often after our arrival. Loved the grounds and breakfast room.
Can't think of anything not to like.
The park like grounds and historic decor and setting were exactly what was expected. This is not a modern corporate hotel, but worthy of the cost.
the grounds, the outdoor spa and the staff
the location, the staff, the décor, the breakfast, the quiet, the outdoor settings
can't think of anything
I liked the quiet relaxed atmosphere El Rey always provides Have been going to El Rey and the Alamo Motel since 1976. It's amazingly quiet for being on a busy thoroughfare. Pantry Restaurant nearby is excellent and can be walked to. Staff accommodated a reasonable flex with the check in time due to a wedding we had to attend.
Grounds are beautiful and inviting. Staff is very friendly, courteous. Best of all, it's located only a few steps from The Pantry, Santa Fe's best restaurant, bar none.
All of the pillows were too "fat". I like a fairly flat pillow, but that's just me.
Everything particularly the setting of the hotel and its grounds
You need transport to travel 2.5 miles into the old part of town
The hot tub was excellent, as was the breakfast.
Very limited services. More like a B&B. Very few services in the neighborhood, such as bars and restaurants within walking distance.
Clean room Easy parking
Unwelcoming arrival and departure Location Poor internet Tired bathroom Road noise
On the whole we were delighted with our stay at the El Rey. The front desk people were extremely helpful recommending restaurants etc. The place has an old school charm and we felt it was good value and convenient .
Issues with WIFI, hot tub was only warm and not enough electrical outlets. Also we stayed an extra night and our key wasn't changed so we had to go to the front desk to get it re-programmed. A few more hangers in the closet would be appreciated.
Beautiful grounds and gardens.
I liked everything.
The garden was pretty but too bad we didn't sleep there.
The room was a basic motel room. It was very dark because you can't open the drapes on the window that faced the corridor. The breakfast was bland. While the tortilla was nice and hot, I didn't know what to eat with it.
Really pretty hotel in a nice style. Rooms were comfortable and looked like they'd been recently renovated.
It's a bit far out from Santa Fe itself & not many restaurants within walking distance.
The look, feel, character, plants, flowers, pool, bed, charm, breakfast...all of it unique and wonderful.
The awful noisy road in front.
Grounds are lovely. Have stayed there several times in the past and always had a beautiful room. Very charming. Convenient.
Our room was very shabby, needing painting, bathroom door needed to be replaced. I realize that building was built in the 40's but needs some serious updating.
