Pros: The innkeeper was sweet! I like that she is such a natural tea wiz. Location was great. nice backyard and balcony. Close to the trails.
Cons: For $100 per night, I would've appreciated a properly working shower (shower head was clogged and the water got either too cold or too hot when the nozzle was turned), the room was not warm- the electric fireplace made up for it after a while, poor tv (no cable or dvd player, digital signal was often poor)
Bed and room very comfortable. Breakfast was great. The extra cake upon arrival was nice. Gloria and everyone else was very nice!
I did not like the claw foot tub. Very hard to take a shower. Worried about falling. No handles to hold on to to get out the tub.
Nothing was what the advertised.
Breakfast is great!
Staff were very helpful and courteous. Good breakfast. Loved the deck!
Need to be able to navigate relatively steep stairs. Bathtub very hard to get in and out of for anyone without full mobility or good balance - not for the faint of heart!
Wonderful hostess & staff - it's like staying with your favorite aunt. Freshly baked scones for breakfast. Sited on edge of glorious park & golf course. Public transportation & free parking. MUCH better than a generic hotel. I will return again - absolutely!
150 year home = room is smaller than a hotel room. For some rooms, auto traffic might be bothersome, it wasn't for us.
The deck was amazingly relaxing... Just to be out and enjoy the nice weather with my wife was beautiful.
Had I planned further in advance, I would've booked the deck looking out away from the road, but that is in no way the fault of the Emerald Necklace.
Beautiful, clean room. Wonderful food and tea! Friendly staff and goes the extra mile to make you comfortable and happy!
Lovely room and grounds, easy to get to, quiet. very accommodating inn keeper
quarters were cramped for a couple with a 12 year old in same room.
Good morning, Typically, I would say “it was fine,” but I think your B&B is worth more than just a brief comment, and therefore good enough to provide a review. 1) The entrance to the dining area looks like a security door and is uninviting. I must admit it raised questions about the safety of the facility, e.g. “Do people break in?” It is an easy fix with some paint and wood trim on the door to give it character. 2) One reason for staying there is the building’s history, but nothing seemed to be available to describe the reason for this building at the top of a very steep hill. Was there a bridge there when the building was built, and what purpose did it serve when transportation was by horse drawn vehicle? The brick drive was most interesting. 3) The young man who waited on us was polite and cordial, but I sat at a table with three women and he served me first. That was not good. I gave my plate to one of the women the first day, but I ordered scrambled eggs the second and had to sit with my meal while they waited to be served. He also approached the table and spoke while we were engaged in conversation and I found myself competing with him to finish my sentence. Both of the issues are an easy fix with a bit of instruction. 4) Breakfast was OK but not special, and I think it was prepared food that was warmed in a microwave. Essentially, we were offered the same breakfast both days, although an option of pancakes was mentioned. The fruit was not fresh, and in retrospect I believe filled with sugar. The potatoes were frozen and then warmed and the eggs also seemed to be packaged food that was warmed. The meal was similar to the offerings at many inexpensive diners across this country. The food did not compare well with the exceptional menus of the B&Bs in the Amish country 50-100 miles to your south or even the freshness and variety of the free breakfast typically offered at a Comfort Inn or Best Western motel.
Loved the breakfast and friendly staff.
The bed was uncomfortable and you have to lug your bags up a flight of stairs.
The room was very comfortable and the owner was wonderful. We will definately stay again in the summer to take advantage of the walking trails in the metro parks located right behind the inn.
Charming, different, like living in a doll's house. I loved it, but my partner wanted to run away, I think it is more attractive for females. I loved the variety of teas. The host left us some desert and we could help ourselves to tea anytime. She was also an excellent cook, made us delicious vegetarian omelette! Very friendly host.
Location seemed to be in the suburbs. You will need a car to get to the city.
The setting by the river parkish area
upstairs common area was a little lacking
My wife and I stayed at the Emerald Necklace for our honeymoon.. We fell in love with it and have decided that it will be our get-away place in the future.. We've been back once since the honeymoon and plan to be back again...
