Good location and overall ok for that price.
location is good
very dirty - I found someone's nail on the carpet.. no kitchen, even impossible to make tea(
Location next to the Civic Center and Powel Stration - just 7 minutes walk to Market Street and main public transport hubs.
Despite good location, very poor neighborhood, full of homeless at street (they make no harm - relatively safe - but are unpleasant), and streets very dirt - not good environment for families, children, or even couples. For single travelers and backpackers is ok.
cheap compare to other options good for solo travelers
location is nesty shared bathroom
Poorly situated. Dirty door.
The cheapest we found. Owner very polite and nice Suggested only if You have not a car..!
No Services in the room, bathroom and showers in common with all the guests, not much clean, without parking (complicate and expansive if You have a car) parkings near 20-40 dollars per night
Location is OK, close to the city center.
The hostel is at the 2nd level of the building without an elevator. The window in the room I stayed could not be opened, so the room is smelly and hot in September although there is a fan with loud noise. Not recommended.
- price - calm night - clean bed
- dangerous street - bad locker on door - old and not really clean bathroom - no elevator - a little bit smoke smell in room
near to the civic center when you travel from airport
The street that the hotel is based in, it is really not a very good idea to walk on that street when the sun goes down, not very safe.

Is one of the most dangerous streets in the city. Although we took it to be the cheapest price not worth paying.
Good location and cheap price, good for students or solo travelers that need a place to sleep at a good price. It's not the ritz and feels weird the first night then you can feel it's ok!
They don't have non smoking rooms they all have the smell of smoke in the carpet and curtains but hey I can't really complain about the price after seeing how expensive evrything is in SF
Owner was very nice and helpful
Dangerous feeling location. Also dirty bathrooms.
the staff guy was nice
no kitchen. No mirror anywhere. Not even in the common showers. We did not like this place at all They are building a new area so then it may be better
The place is clean and convenient. The family that runs the hostel are all friendly and caring
Not in best neighborhood. Tip for getting there: 6th is home to a lot of soup kitchens so the walk from Market St is a gauntlet of homeless and panhandlers. Do not come down 6th. Instead, head south on 5th (you'll pass Moscone Center and Yahoo! Hq) then cut over the street just before Europa. Once you're back on 6th you are within sight of Euopa and You miss all the grunginess & panhandling. Like I said, it's not the ritz, but if you're smart about it you can enjoy the city and spend a fraction of your budget on hotels.
no a/c, no window screen, no remote for TV, no mirror on wall (finally got one). Couldn't connect to WiFi a lot of the time.
- surprisingly, the creaky mattress never bothered me - I've slept like a rock, better than in five star hotels. - own sink - own fridge/freezer - neighbourhood didn't bother me, you get used to it after a moment. Never got stabbed, not once! In fact, survivability rate is better than US healthcare's. - Carlos is cool. - Location is close to the Powell bart station and the whole market district.
- WiFi brought back the nostalgia of dial-up internet. - the window didn't quite lock - one of the few outlets was out - not enough toilets and the ones that are there are a bit scary, with a tricky locks.
My husband and me stayed in this hostel on our recent trip to San Francisco. The owner and his family are very nice and helpful people. The hostel is close by to all the stuff we wanted to see (i.e. The Mission, China Town, Little Italy, Union Square etc). All the other stuff can be reached by public transport. Overall we had a pleasant stay.
The hostel is on 6th St which seems a bit scary when you first arrive. After we walked up and down the street a couple of times we noticed we don't really have to be scared as the people just keep to themselves. If you don't want to walk around 6th St you can easily avoid this by walking down 5th or 7th St.
Fridge only but you won't have any desire to eat in the room. Pics do not give accurate description.
A regular SF traveller and have stayed in several similar price range hotel. This is far the worst and dirtiest hotel in town. Not to mention no shelf to put your soap shampoo other than dirty floor, mold all over the wall, shower curtain etc. One night stayed feel just like a week. Wifi needs to be reset by grumpy staff. 6th street is the worst, stinkiest in SOMA area with less fortune people lined up for food. Moved to another hotel only a few dollars more per night with two beds room with kitchen for next 5 nights. Can't be any happier.
- looks terrible from outside, some construction was going on just beside - very stuffy in the whole facility - light didn't work in the toilet room - I couldn't open window in my room without disassembling it - no towel at room
Good place to sleep and go around the city
great helpful staff
Souless without character, and although cheap, should be cheaper for what you get.
So much chipper than the rest of san francisco
The neiborhood was auful full of homeless. Not safe
We didn't like anything in this hostel , its like homeless house . It was so bad
Price Proximity to AT&T park and union square Wifi. Not the best hotel, but it is a hostel and the price was 1/3 of staying at a nice hotel. I just needed a bed and roof and it was fine for that. But far from luxury stay. So if you have appropriate expectations, it is fine.
Nothing was horrible, just all pretty cheap. (Which is why price was cheap).
