Spacious , clean comfortable room. great bed.friendly helpful staff, would definately go again.
Wifi was sporadic and tea/coffee making facilities in room would have been appreciated
The hotel is charming, well located and a great value. The fact that Starbucks, subway, and Central Park are within a block is amazing!
The location for this property is great! This neighborhood is quiet yet has easy access to taxis, restaurants, the natural history museum and central park.
The staff, with exception of housekeeping are not overly friendly but I knew this when I booked as I have lodged here before. The heater in my room, 814 made a strange noise as though something was clinking around inside.
Our room faced 81st where the giant balloons were being inflated for the parade, so we had an exclusive view ! Room was clean, very spacious and great bed.
Bathroom doorknob was loose and the carpet around the radiator was damp. But otherwise a lovely hotel
as sabbath observers they were helpful to us.
no room service
cold in the room, small bathroom
Great location on the UWS. Very close to Central Park and the C train. Comfortable rooms of a good size for Manhattan.
Come on! Give us free Wifi and a mini refrigerator'
the view bath tub supply of water location late check out
wifi is not free ! sheets were not ironed well, pillow cases were messy :( room was chilly, no extra blanket breakfast was disappointing( coffee was bad, the fruit was canned, the scrambled eggs were tasteless )
We love the location! It is two blocks away from my daughter who resides in Manhattan. Also, close to the Metro and restaurants and Whole Foods Grocery store.
The decor of the rooms is very "tired". The bathroom seems to be the only renovated area of the room. Very old linens, lamps. I asked for a bulb to replaced in our sitting room when I first arrived. It was never replaced.
Service was exceptional. Bed was comfy. Calle ocho restaurant on premise.
This wasn't a negative for us but some people might find the decor dated. It's got an old money feel like visiting a rich old aunt.
Very quiet. Efficient staff and elevator service. Pleasant atmosphere.
nice view of central park on south side of building.
This is our second time we've stayed at the Excelsior. It's a great location close to the Park, museums and excellent restaurants. Very clean and quiet. Front desk staff are quick and efficient. We will stay again.
The Excelsior is a medium sized hotel with a European feel. The location, across the street from the Natural History's Rose Planetarium, is an easy walk to Central Park, the Lincoln Center and the Beacon Theater,
I will not book this hotel if I have business downtown--it's just a little out of the way and taxi fares add up.
Rooms are well appointed. Location is good for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and for Columbia University. The price is reasonable by New York standards.
Paid Wi-Fi in the rooms. However there is free Wi-Fi on the Second Floor an In the lobby. USA Today delivered to your room. This might be acceptable in Des Moines, but in NYC? The breakfast buffet was well worth the $12.00 it cost.
Just one elevator working. Should have one complimentory bottle of water for exhausted travelers!
The location of the Excelsior is ideal. It is situated in the quiet upper west side with a subway station less than 50 metres away, the Central Park nearby and a number of shops and good eating places within easy walking distance. The hotel is old-style but seems well maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful and let us have a late check out at no extra cost. We liked the Excelsior and will stay there again.
We missed not having tea or coffee making facilities in the room. There is no guest laundry. There is no wireless internet in the rooms although a wired connection is available.
hotel was quiet from street noise -
water was not not one morning shower
Well placed, 50 meters from central park
(Bed a bit small for two (Queen size
We got into Manhattan early in the morning. We were going to drop off our bags so we didn't have to haul them around. Linn had a room ready & let us check in early. Top floor, corner; just what I asked for. Quiet, view, lovely, well appointed room. Thanks!
All cheap chain hotels have a fridge, microwave and free wi-fi in every room. The room has a dresser designed to contain a fridge, but no fridge. Breakfast is usually included, free coffee, always. For the price these should all be included. Pay for wi-fi? Really? If the cheap guys can do these things, why can't a 4 star?
location facilities in room helpful staff
continental breakfast not available coffee machine in lobby not working
Room was very quiet at night.
The breakfast buffet food could be of higher quality for the cost.
Very close near central park. In colombus ave and Amsterdam ave à lot of nice restaurants.
Bad WiFi in de lobby. Very expensive in The room. Nog outside facilities. Staf not so friendly and helpfull.
No wifi in rooms and no coffee facilities in rooms
