Excellent location if you are planning to visit the Volcano. The city itself doesn't have anything, but anyway you are not supposed to go there to visit cities :) The place is very comfortable and well equipped (heaters in case it gets cold at night, fully equipped kitchen), and super clean.
The whole region is very humid and tropical, which means spiders are common. While the property itself is super clean and has mosquito nets in every window, if you are afraid of spiders it may be a good idea to buy some insecticide spray, since it is unavoidable that some may enter the house. We had two small spiders in the bathroom, no big deal.
Our 2 bedroom unit was roomy, comfortable, very clean, and the well-appointed kitchen was amazing. It had everything we needed for our visit to the Volcano National Park. We will stay here again and recommend it to friends.
It would have been nice to have 2 bathrooms, but not essential. We managed with 4 people and 1 bath.
very clean, modern and comfortable. located just outside the entrance to Volcano National Park. beautiful setting.
The location was great. We went to the park for two days and it is located right outside the park. Very quiet and a nice size for the four of us. Would recommend.
Location 5 minutes to the Park couldn't be beat. Had everything we needed including breakfast items, torches and umbrellas.
Great location, equipped with everything you could ask for. The owner made sure everything was ready for us. I can't say enough and will stay there again any time I'm in Volcano.
There wasn't anything we didn't like.
Quite big and comfortable.
No contact to anyone during the stay. Worked fine, but felt strange.
Close to the national park, washing and drying facilities, dressing gowns
No exhaust fan in the kitchen (or bbq outside) meant it ended up very smoky in the room
Very well equipped comfortable cottage ideal for a couple (as bed in main room along with kitchen and lounge). Very grateful for breakfast foods (eggs, bread and milk) left in fridge plus fruit. Used washing machine and dryer; thank you! Quiet ++
A little difficult to find at first: would have helped if there was a sign at the end of the driveway as low walls and lights are plentiful in the area.
Location was very convenient, information provided was very helpful
Not having a dishwasher.
We stayed in the 2 bedroom unit - it was very comfortable and well appointed. The refrigerator was well stocked and the large kitchen was a pleasure to cook in. We also enjoyed the front porch. The units are shielded from each other by a screen so there is no loss of privacy. The washer dryer in the open space between the 2 units was a bonus. The 3 fireplaces worked well and provided a toasty warmth without overheating the unit.
Upon entry the whole unit smelled very strongly of cleaners/disinfectants and we had to keep the windows open for 2-3 hours to dispel the odor.
Kindness of people and helping neighbors; Quite yet close to everything; kitchen, bed, fire place, furniture, checking in and out, keyless entry, etc feels like at home and have peace of mind.
Struggled a bit finding the place. I read the navigation instruction too early and forgot about it, did not notice the street number sign on the ground, then followed GPS coordination and stuck at 4th Street. May less likely to confuse if there were a sign of "Welcom" or "5th Street Ohana" at driver's sight line. Feeling moisture in rooms.
Wonderful covered front porch for outdoor lunch. Large clean kitchen. Roomy living room with large flat screen tv. Great stay here to explore Volcanoes National Park!
No TV in bedrooms
Facilities were great!
A little bit far from any shop for grocery items
Quiet and convenient location, very nicely appointed. Breakfast in frig was good.
Not quite as clean as it should have been, particularly bathroom floor
Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The refrigerator and cupboards were amply stocked with breakfast items. It had everything we needed.
The juice provided for breakfast was a canned pineapple juice which was about 10% actual fruit juice. A small carton of real fruit juice would have been better.
Very convenient location to Volcano national Park and Volcano Village. Unit was very clean and it was great having a washer/dryer halfway through our trip. Kitchen well stocked with cooking items.
The mattress on the pull-out bed was almost unusable. If our skinny 14 yr old daughter had weighed one lb more, she wouldn't have been able to sleep on it. even if we took it off the frame and put it on the bed. The unit had a very faint but noticeable mildew smell to it, for those that are very sensitive. It was noticeable only when you entered, but it was there. Also for breakfast for 3 people for 2 days they gave us 7 eggs. We bought some other food but maybe a dozen eggs would have been nice. We enjoyed the pineapple.
Clean spacious room. Very quiet neighborhood (since there is essentially nothing else around). Very good location close to Volcanoes National Park. Useful information provided in packet in room.
Breakfast was adequate, nothing fancy, including bread, cans of 10-12% tropical juice, eggs to prepare, and some fruit. More options, e.g. cereal, nicer pastries, etc would have been nice.
The environment of living in a forest is excellent. Wake up with green plants and bird singing is so refreshing.
Satisfied guests! Comfortable, clean studio room for 2 adults. Convenient to Volcano Village and Nat'l Volcano Park. Very quiet & private in beautiful tropical rainforest setting. Simple booking & check-in process, unintrusive staff is available if needed. Kitchen was adequate for breakfast & lunch prep and we appreciated the included breakfast items. Large front porch area, washer & dryer located between units. Warmed up quickly with 3 space heaters.
Nice fresh fruit & juice provided, wished they had a blender. Studio unit is good for two but I'd prefer the 2-bedroom unit for my family or for an extended stay. The roads are unlit and very dark so be sure to bring the directions if arriving at night.
Very roomy. When we arrived, not all the breakfast items were there (no eggs/milk/bread) so I called and a very nice young woman brought over the items very promptly.
The website should clarify that the "breakfast" is really just breakfast items left for you--not a problem but not clear. I really hate spider webs and there were some gnats caught in webs in the bathroom. Creeped.
Fantastic place for volcano park visit. During our stay (Nov 2013) everything in the unit (Queen Emma) looked brand new. The place is ridiculously well-equipped, too.
Volcano village is quite secluded, so don't go there if you don't like the feeling of being alone. That's not something specific to this lodging, though.
Well stocked, updated, roomy, clean, comfortable, private, food great- made it easier for us
A bit pricey for the off season
We stayed in the Queen Suite and the accommodations were great! The place is located 10 minutes away from the Jagger Museum observatory, which is the best place to view the volcano from inside the park, and was secluded from outside action. The suite was very clean and well kept.
Although this place was excellent we found it a bit overpriced, as well as all other surrounding places to stay.
