This central San Francisco hotel is just a 2 minute walk from Union Square. It features an on-site restaurant and offers Victorian-style guest rooms with a minibar and cable TV.

We found the location excellent, close to union square, the BART, and cable car, and if your reasonably fit walk to Fishermans Wharf. Room was clean, bed comfortable, close to good cafes and restaurants that we found by asking passers by!
The hotel is old and its lift was reflective of its ear small and slow. In our short 24hour stay there were many changes of staff most of which were not that bothered - a shame.
Close to main centre but not on union square.
Extremely noisy. Had to put myself to sleep through medication to shut the noise out from the street. There is no ventilation in the room - open the window and you won't sleep even on medication from the noise. Breakfast is very poor. Cleanliness - yeh bathroom towels right up against toilet. Good hygiene - NOT! Overpriced for what you get definitely.
So not stay here. Our room was vile
Bed was comfortable
Shampoos were less
The location to union square was the best thing going for this hotel. The bed was okay.
The room was way too cramped. No air conditioner, so we had to open the windows. The curtains couldn't be adjusted. The place was way too noisy to sleep.
It just felt germy
Close to city
Lack of parking, uneducated staff.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. The decor was good. The hotel is near some good restaurants bars and diners and great location for wandering around or catching trams and trolley buses. Breakfast was not elaborate but was totally adequate.
Authentic Victorian style.
Small room and very soft bed
This was exactly what I was looking for. Someplace that I could crash at the end of the day. Small room with a few amenities. It's definitely older, but for the most part clean. Key card on the exterior door was nice so I knew I could get in at any hour. (The latest I got in was 10ish and there was always someone at the front desk. I found the morning staff to be much more helpful than the guy who works the desk in the evening.
The elevator was broken on my last day, which wasn't a huge deal for me, but I could see it being a burden if you had a lot of luggage and were checking into the 5th floor. The plumbing of other rooms was particularly loud in my room, but it wasn't a really big deal.
The location is excellent, right close to Union Square and the Powell Street cable car. It does offer some old-world charm. It was adequately clean.
Rooms are small and spartan. The television was a 12" lcd hung on the wall. The elevator was very old school with the old-style cage and not very big or fast. Also expect lots of noise from Post St. If you are directly facing it, even on top floors.
Location good. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Good hotel to use as base to explore San Francisco.
Thin walls, could hear verbatim conversations from other rooms...at 4h00 in the morning.
Complimentary Continental breakfast
Lack of enthusiasm by some of the younger male staff
It is very much a San Francisco experience. The building is quirky, as are the rooms. The staff were pleasant. It's a good location near Union Square (and it was close to the Hilton where my conference was taking place). It would have been a strong fit if I were visiting SF for pleasure.
My room was small and there was no place to sit and be on the lap top. It was comfortable, but fairly expensive for what it was. They have an old closet elevator that was hard to navigate with luggage.
I like small hotels. The location was great - 2 blocks from Union Square and not too far from the Bart train. The staff was helpful - as a woman with a disability, I am not always sure of the attitudes toward me, but everyone seemed okay. I did appreciate having a refrigerator in the room.
The price I paid seemed very high (and bothered me the most) for a very small room with basic amenities. I had trouble opening the plastic wrap on the small soap. There is no cooling system (a small fan would be nice) and the bath tub floor needs a bit more stability. Too expensive for some difficult maneuvers.
public parking available nearby at good rate. Location of hotel in downtown SF. Rooms nice and very clean, but small.
Small rooms, narrow stairs, and tiny elevator. Obviously an older building accounts for those features, but could be hard on some .
Relatively close to Union Square
Noisy room at 7am Poor breakfast Felt more like a hostel than a hotel
First room was not good we complained after the toilet overflowed and were given a good room. Staff ranged from great to unconcerned. Breakfast was included and quite generous continental
Noise first room felt dirty
Noisy, the rooms are super small and my wall had boogers on them by the bed. I didn't get enough towels, even after I went down the first day and told them. And I never saw a wash cloth. Don't be fooled when they say breakfast, is just toast and fruit, and horrible coffee. For a few extra dollars stay somewhere else.
Pillows where like jail pillows si flat,I used nothing one night. Felt springs in my back most of the night.
Friendly staff, great location
Very good location Breakfast was included, although very basic.
Towels were worn Room not sufficiently clean and aerated Small room (although it was already clear to us from the description - "petite")
