This was exactly what I was looking for. Someplace that I could crash at the end of the day. Small room with a few amenities. It's definitely older, but for the most part clean. Key card on the exterior door was nice so I knew I could get in at any hour. (The latest I got in was 10ish and there was always someone at the front desk. I found the morning staff to be much more helpful than the guy who works the desk in the evening.
The elevator was broken on my last day, which wasn't a huge deal for me, but I could see it being a burden if you had a lot of luggage and were checking into the 5th floor. The plumbing of other rooms was particularly loud in my room, but it wasn't a really big deal.
Complimentary Continental breakfast
Lack of enthusiasm by some of the younger male staff
It is very much a San Francisco experience. The building is quirky, as are the rooms. The staff were pleasant. It's a good location near Union Square (and it was close to the Hilton where my conference was taking place). It would have been a strong fit if I were visiting SF for pleasure.
My room was small and there was no place to sit and be on the lap top. It was comfortable, but fairly expensive for what it was. They have an old closet elevator that was hard to navigate with luggage.
public parking available nearby at good rate. Location of hotel in downtown SF. Rooms nice and very clean, but small.
Small rooms, narrow stairs, and tiny elevator. Obviously an older building accounts for those features, but could be hard on some .
Relatively close to Union Square
Noisy room at 7am Poor breakfast Felt more like a hostel than a hotel
First room was not good we complained after the toilet overflowed and were given a good room. Staff ranged from great to unconcerned. Breakfast was included and quite generous continental
Noise first room felt dirty
Friendly staff, great location
Very good location Breakfast was included, although very basic.
Towels were worn Room not sufficiently clean and aerated Small room (although it was already clear to us from the description - "petite")
This Hotel is basically just a Flop House with lipstick. Location is great. However rooms are so tiny you can't even move. There is no room for a chair or to open up your luggage. Additionaly there is NO air conditioning. I never thought to ask in 2014 if the Hotel had air!. Can you imagine being in a little box in July with NO air? Not only that the window didn't have a screen, and it was on the alley so we could not open our window. The mattresses were just horrible. They had to be 50 years old. Pretty sure the hotel bought them used from a flop house that was upgrading. The staff at the hotel is just surly and unwilling to help. They probably get so may complaints from guests who have been tricked into staying here. We tried to check in early and when we couldn't we asked to store our bags until check in, so we could go park our car. You would have thought we were asking to stay free for month. Why didn't we leave? San Francisco in July on the weekend. Not a lot of options.
Location Staff hospitality Breakfast
Size of room was uncomfortably small Our room was extremely hot at all times of day The fan in the room did not work and there was no chance of a breeze due to the situation of the room in the building
The room was very dirty and small. Bedsheets were not changed. It is very noisy .The walls are very thin and you can speak without any problems with you neighbours. The fan in bathroom is working as a diesel engine and you can easy hear the fan s from two floors above. They did not look like they washed. There was a woman bikini tight on the bed. We checked out 1 day earlier. We have been in USA for 22 nights and this hotel was the worst and the most expensive hotel during our stay.
Don't go for the "breakfast"
The hotel is in great location. It is a little small but very functional. Continental breakfast is a huge plus and lets you start your day early. If you don't mind tight quarters it is perfect.
Good breakfast, friendly hotel environment, clean rooms, nice staff.
Rooms a bit too small. Partying every night in back lane below our window.
Location was great for us. Close to everything. Staff was helpful and loved the charm of this hotel!
Location, breakfast, staff, the feeling of going back in time
a little noisy, our room was in front of building
It was in a good location. Free wifi and coffee.
The staff were indifferent and didn't seem to care about doing a good job. The lift was old and dodgy. The room had no safe, or air conditioning. It was also tiny and hot with paper thin walls which meant you could hear every noise. The shower had 2 temperatures - scolding hot or freezing, and the towels stunk.
Friendly helpfull staff Great location
Facility had no Air Condition in room. Was told had to open window, all night people passed by our window since it was in view of an alley. People peeing in alley. Yet facility it self had air conditioning outside of rooms. Toilet continued to get clogged. No parking for guests, had to park at garage around the block. The picture on TV was messed up. Overall horrible experience
The bed was very comfortable and the room was surprisingly quiet. We had the window open and you could hear some street noise, but not bad at all. I would recommend it. Secure parking was very close and BART connections within an easy walking distance.
Great location near Union Square. Easy to get to from the SFO airport via subway and then a few blocks walk. Good breakfast. Able to open the window and get the fresh air. Quiet. Charming old-style elevator.
Bed getting old. Not enough hooks in the bathroom. Closet awkward to use due to location in corner behind door. The floor of the room, especially in the bathroom, slanted disconcertingly--perhaps this is part of older bldgs in San Fran, but it was quite unnerving.
We enjoyed its location, walking distance to almost every major place! We particularly enjoyed the continental breakfast.
The room did not accomodate 4 people
Nice common area for socializing.
