My stay at the Fox Pond B&B was beyond compare. The owner, Ted, is very personable and makes you feel most welcome. And his "hostess" Mulligan (a gorgeous Golden Retriever) is the sweetest, friendliest dog. Ted will keep her out of the guests' rooms, but as I am a dog lover, I enjoyed her company immensely. Although it was too cold to enjoy the vast gardens, they were beautiful. The location was perfect in my book, as the B&B is located in a quiet, secluded and wooded neighborhood; and I always rent a car when I travel to New England, so not being close to public transportation was not a problem for me. The suite I stayed in is gorgeous and VERY spacious, and the bathroom is fantastic. I will definitely return!
A very personal B and B, brilliant location for visiting Salem and the surrounding area, and Boston too. Very pleasant and clean room that felt like home, Ted is a very friendly and helpful host and we fell in love with Mulligan the golden retriever,
Nothing to dislike at all
House was nice. Neighborhood was pretty quiet.
Sort of felt like we were staying with our Bachelor Uncle in his big house rather than in a real B&B. Inn keeper (Ted) is a very nice guy and seems to try hard and mean well but our experience fell short in comparison to other B&Bs. Why? Little things like having the dog jumping on you while trying to walk down stairs going to breakfast ... If you're not a dog person, this is rather annoying. Little things like bleach-stained towels and comforters that don't fit the bed. Little things like a warmed up quiche and a English muffin that failed to stand up to other B&B standards for breakfast (I now understand that Marblehead has restrictions on cooking ... Something that was not mentioned in the description on line.). Little things like the fact that the property is in the middle of a residential neighborhood and it doesn't appear that the neighbors are crazy about the comings and goings. Little things like being immediately informed that since there was actually two of us (H&W) that it was going to cost us more since we missed pushing something when booking through Booking.com. Not sure when the last time was that I had to pay more to have my wife stay with me. I realize that this review goes against the grain of many who have written before. And again, our experience wasn't horrible but it certainly did not match up to other experiences including three others the week immediately before this stay. And, all of those received top ratings in my review.
The design of the house and how it sits in its extensive garden/grounds with lovely woodland conservation area nearby. The house is in a quiet street with similarly attractive properties. The owner Ted and his lovely dog make you very welcome. Perfectly healthy breakfast served inside or on the patio, weather permitting. A place you can relax. Within a short drive of Salem and the beautiful historic town of Marblehead, not to be missed.
If you are travelling without a vehicle, bus route access is about half a mile away....but I was very glad I made the effort. You stay at this b and b for the charms it offers, not just as somewhere to lay your head.
The owner is very kind and helpful.
You would want to have a car so you can get around. Hard to walk to local places.
Fox Pond was wonderful. I could not have asked for anything more.
The owner of this outstanding litlle Hotel has the gift of making his guests feel at home in a personnall and genuine way. The breakfast shared with Ted and the other guests was a memorable experience. The dog, Mulligan is just lovely and makes the place adorable.
Nothing to complain about.
welcome, comfort, atmosphere
beautiful neighborhood and conservation area nearby
Everything was just perfect and Ted made us feel home. Can't ask for more.
It was the perfect place, close to nature, Salem, and less than 30 mins to Boston.
