After a disappointing start to our stay we found reception staff helpful and courteous. Room was clean and comfortable and the pub downstairs was cosy with good food and service.
On arrival we were told our booking had not been received and the hotel was full (the booking had been made and confirmed 7 months previously) We were however able to stay after another couple decided not to stay after all. Breakfast in the restaurant was at times shambolic with slow service and orders being forgotten.
Overall a very nice place to stay. Would definitely return despite the tiny room.
Unhappy with two pillows which smelt as though a wash was long overdue. Quickly changed by staff with full apology.
B&B experience. Breakfast was very good for $8 a piece. Pleasant staff.
Should not have accepted a "cozy" size room when a "standard" size room was available. Didn't recall booking a Paris-like "cozy" size room. My fault I guess, not sure.
A truly lovely old inn, this offers it all, from cosy fireplaces to reading and games rooms and appealing to all age groups, so is perfect for both couples and families. Offers lots of outdoor options including hiking, biking and swimming, and is well-located for driving to all the attractions in and around the Franconia Notch area.
Nothing to report
beautiful place back in the mountains
Beautiful situation. Great location for exploring the White Mountains region. Nice tradition style building. Good food & bar. Very helpful staff.
Pretty rural setting, decor in public areas was charming and a pleasant dining experience, with attentive staff.
This room lacked love!! It was quite small, exacerbated by unnecessary furniture so our suitcases took up the floorspace in front of the armchairs. But the reason we rate this establishment poorly is because the installation of temporary air conditioners, (still there on 10 Oct) allowed very cold air into the room. There was no heating or extra blanket, so we were forced to jam two pillows into the vents either side of the AC. Staff at the front desk thought this all rather amusing.
Lounge and downstairs areas fine
Tiny double room with 4 ft 6 in bed, very uncomfortable mattress . Room in serious need of a makeover. No sound insulation, poor shower. Very much something from the 50 ies.Heating not in in room even though 37f outside. Not an experience I would want to repeat
A warm welcoming environment in distinctly cool weather. Good restaurant - breakfast and dinner - just as well because any alternative would have been a distance away
Nothing really - the total bill was quite high once the service charge was added but that's the States for you.
We were here 25 years ago and fell in love with the place. So now I brought my 85yr. old mother. It was fantastic
There wasn't a thing that we didn't like
The food and service was excellent. Quiet and out of the way. Beautiful scenery. The perfect New Hampshire setting.
Nice homey feel. Beds are comfortable. Price is good. Location pleasant. All staff are very nice and helpful.
Breakfast and somewhat at dinner are understaffed. Waiters talk with diners but service to others is then delayed. I had to ask for coffee and never got a refill at breakfast. Cups too small. Suggest carafes at table. Staff seems to hustle but long waits.
Charming, friendly staff, great food, lovely location.
A large delivery truck backed in to the rear of the Inn at 6:45 am on Saturday. Hard bed.
From the moment we arrived we were treated so very well. The accommodations were very warm and comfortable. We appreciated not having TV's and telephones all about. The meals were extraordinary and some of the best we have ever eaten. The chef's choices were excellent and presentations showcased each course. This is a place you can stay and never leave until you are ready to go home. It is inclusive and well thought out.
Unbeatable views, recreational offerings and food. The best New England breakfast anywhere at an incredibly low price (for us Brits) and great bar menu, too. Swimming pool, games, bikes, horses, gliders across the street and spectacular views.
Nothing. Well, a heated pool would have been nice but that was of no consequence.
The location is superb and the rustic side of the Inn is great. Friendly staff, I felt like a regular but it was the first time for me there. I will return.
Our room was small, it could be an issue for a winter stay.
Swimming hole Friendly bar Pleasant restaurant Comfortable bed and room. Great sleep
The B&B option ($8 per person for breakfast) was well worth it and the food was actually very good. The views and grounds where nice.
The shower controls where poorly placed, so we got soaked turning it on or off. I would have liked a three prong outlet by the bed and the wi-fi was slow at best.
The public areas were cosy and inviting. There was an open fire in the living room, which is beautifully decorated and the food was excellent.
While the food was delicious; the staff were inattentive and left people waiting to be seated (when there were tables available), forgot to orders and made mistakes with the bill which also took an age to rectify. On our second morning we opted for the buffet due to the lengthy wait on our first morning for our breakfast order.
Really enjoyed our 3-day stay here - the room was pleasant, the staff was great, and the location was perfect. A great traditional inn feel.
We liked everything about the Inn. The staff and facilities were very nice.
What we did not like was the fact that Booking.com never made the reservation for us, so when we arrived, we were almost out of luck for a room. Won't use this website again.

Old fashioned but well maintained.
Air conditioner was a bit noisy
Room was nice, hot tub and pool were great. The food downstairs was fantastic and they offer a meal plan if you are staying there so you get money off on the meal. They offer free bike rental and use of their tennis courts. You can always rent horses next door to go riding. Overall, a very nice stay.
The staff could have been a bit more welcoming.
Great location. Beautiful and comfortable accommodations. Friendly staff.
Understaffed resulting in inefficient service. Staff was friendly but unable to meet the needs of the guests in timely manner. Overheard staff comments about outdated computer system and resulting inefficiency. Spoke to a local at the pub inside the Inn who admitted the service needed "some polishing" and I agree.
