The room and the bathroom were very clean. (After having read previous reviews, I was a bit concerned and brought my own sheets and towels. Didn't need to.) The room was "rustic," but all I wanted was a place to sleep at night as I knew I would be up at Mt. Rainier most of the day. For the price, I had what I needed. Flat screen TV worked fine. The place overall is very well kept up. It's location is wonderful---you are RIGHT THERE at the entrance to the park.
The lamps were old and one was broken; didn't have wi-fi and only brief occasional phone reception; and---the worst of all---there was no hot water for a shower both mornings. I don't know if this is typical, but I was definitely unhappy and this could be a deal breaker if I were to think about staying there again.
We were looking for reasonably-priced lodging outside the Nisqually entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. The place we stayed at last year was full, so we opted to try Gateway Inn. The cabin was clean, and the room size was reasonable.
Wi-Fi worked well in the lobby, but the signal was too weak to use in the cabin. The bed's mattress could use replacing, as it sags towards the middle.
The proximity to the entrance of Mt Rainier National Park
We arrived after dark -around 8pm and the place was locked up. We knocked and after a few minutes someone came to the door to check us in.We were given a cabin which was less than super clean and we were never able to get any hot water in the bathroom.
The TV was fine, the microwave and refrigerator certainly adequate. The location was perfect.
We had no hot water at night and no one was in the office. We had to request it be fixed in the morning--a simple "breaker that doesn't quite have contact so was not working" that should have been fixed long ago! The mattress sagged and the floor in the unit above was very squeaky, disrupting sleep.
Close to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park
Sewage smell very evident; room appeared to be a mish mash of furniture. Craftsmanship of the room was low quality. We were not in a cabin but what they called a suite.
given attic room on 90 degree day with NO air conditioning. had to ask for a fan and then was given a portable one. firetrap room up steep steps. one exit in hallway. all I can say positively is "we survived."
poor facilities tiny TV
This motel sits just steps away from Mt. Rainier National Park. My room was big and clean. The staff members are very nice and helpful.
The room was adjacent to the restaurant and I could hear some noise. The mini-fridge didn't have a freezer compartment in it, and I had some frozen food with me that I hoped to keep there.
This was the worst motel we've stayed in in the U.S. (we've been in worse places in third world countries). It's right next to the highway, with no sound dampening, so lots of traffic noise, especially as we had to open all the windows, because the room was hot and there's no air conditioning. The room smelled bad, too. The bathroom is old, musty, and tiny, and it has a serious tripping hazard -- the floor was at two levels, and it stepped up about an inch to the toilet and shower. The step-up was covered by an old piece of carpet, so we didn't notice it at first, making it even more dangerous (I tripped on first entering). The furniture is very old and the rooms are musty smelling. The rug in the main room is patched unattractively, with sharp, pokey things in various places. The furniture is in very bad condition and some is broken. And the window coverings were broken (couldn't open or close). And they charged $100/night! We would highly recommend avoiding this place!
it is dark
The motel was literally at the gate to the park, so ideally placed for visiting it. It was on an attractive site, complete with restaurant and shop. The room was big.
My room wasn't a separate cabin, but attached to the end of the restaurant with another room above. There was a lot of noise from the side and above at times.
Next to the Park...
As I arrived at the inn and asked check-in, I could hardly believe the situation faced by my family. All rooms were sold out including the room I reserved through Booking.com and I was asked to stay in RV or move to other motel introduced by the inn. I couldn't help but stay in RV and was very cold at night.
Cleanses is poor, for example coffee maker was not cleaned and remained past coffee.
location, bed, breakfast
The location was perfect and serene. Staff was so friendly and beyond amazing assuring all of our needs were met during our stay. The room was clean and comfortable. Would definately stay again and recommend to others.
Location. Room was ready and clean.
Honesty of Host. We reserved a room in the hotel, which was guaranteed. Upon checking-in the host offered us a cabin for an additional $20.00, which we declined. He then stated that he didn't have a room in the hotel and gave us a cabin for the agreed price.
Loved the location, literally right outside of entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park.
The bathroom was tiny and if you're over 5'7" you'll hit your head on ceiling.
We enjoyed our stay at the Gateway Inn. It is old and in a remote location so don't expect a Hyatt. The location is great and the staff are very friendly. We loved it!
Mattresses are a little old and not super comfy. Wifi isn't great but why would you want it on a trip to Mt. Rainier?
Great location Great cabins Great food Loved the deer and rabbits
There is nothing to dislike here
Rustic, romantic, location, water was good, had a fridge, microwave & coffee maker w/coffee. Gresh towels, friendly staff.
Can't think of anything except would have liked better weather.
couldn't be closer to the park; beds relatively comfortable and space decent, though definitely a "roughing it" feel. fridge and microwave/coffee maker in room were great. could have done without the tv/cable since we'd rather have a vacation where we aren't having to be the bad guys about wanting the TV off in favor of books ;-)
no wi-fi in room. Would love to have been able to check email and send photos of successful climb of Mt. Rainier from room ;-). Didn't try restaurant, but the look of it sort of scared us off.
Good location. Coffee maker, fridge, microwave.
No hair dryer, iron. Stairs up to room - no elevator, no help offered. Small double bed in cramped room.
Owner nice seems like a nice guy. Courteous and polite. Good location being supplies from Wal-Mart before going to the area--expensive
Cleaning of the place. Had to ask for coffee bags everyday. The room was not made every day, and one day the housekeeper left the door slightly ajar.
