Score from 168 reviews Good
Perfectly situated accommodation(although one of the neighbouring properties had interesting adult paraphenalia on window display), rooms were tastefully designed, though a little on the compact side. Once the refurbishment is complete I think it will be a lovely little boutique hotel - perfect for discovering Manhattan.
Single glazed windows did result in some street noise, and the lift (elevator) was the slowest thing known to man!
Location was great for walking around the city
Renovations were taking place I think it will be great when all is finished Lift is very slow
Clean, new great location, friendly helpful staff.
Superb location in the Flatiron District. Close to multiple subway stations and lines. Great coffee just down the street. Great range of restaurants and local food options. Hotel is being transformed back into it's 1930's heyday. Our room was a recently renovated King - very comfortable and large by NYC standards.
One slow lift - but it's only for a couple of minutes. We had trouble with the Wi-Fi service a few times, but dealt with well. Hotel is being renovated - a minor inconvenience - but be aware
Gershwin is a cosy hotel in a great location in Midtown Manhattan. The rooms were clean and comfy, and great staff in the foyer at all times.
There was only one lift to service 13 floors which can make for a frustrating wait. There is construction going in on some of the floors which was not an issue bar that it limited access to the stairs which was an alternative to waiting on one lift.
The location is great, Flatiron and you're literally a block from Madison Square Park. Staff was nice, rooms were clean. A great affordable option for Manhattan.
Slowest elevator known to man. Hard to maintain a warm temperature in the room. It was either hot or cold.
Room decor, helpful porter, not far from station
Windows in bathroom - office workers across the street can straight through to bathroom. Slow lifts. Noisy street below.
The Bed was fabulous. The room is small but hey, it's in the center of Manhattan.
That the bathroom window is open to neighboring rooms and apartments. that they are in construction and its dusty and you still have to deal with a lot of noise.
The room was clean and comfortable. I liked the newely remodeled rooms.
The Hotel was under construction in the lobby and on some of the floors. Only one undersized elevator available.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Everything was as promised and the hotel even stored our luckage as we had to do a business trip to another city. Beds were extremely comfortable. The room was small (2 king size beds) as always in New York but clean. WiFi was included in the price of the room and it was working farely well.
Some street noice as the window was facing the street. Some ongoing construction in the hotel but it didn't bother us much. The slowest lift in the world.
Great location, good value, beautiful old and new style combined.
Lobby was very hot.
Good location and wifi.
The room was so small. Wasn't informed that construction of the hotel was ongoing. Carpet seemed dirty. Cleaning lady didn't refill toiletries.
Location Everything was new and clean
-the room was much smaller than described here -no breakfast -the elevator was incredibly slow (they were still renewing the building as of beginning of november... maybe some day the 2nd elevator will work too) they definitely should do something about it
Excellent location, and lovely clean room with HUGE bed and modern bathroom, a perfect base for exploring the city.
The only down side to the hotel is the lift, it was SO SLOW!! (minor issue though)
Good location Big room, comfotrable and clean, stylish and 100% renew
No heat in the bathroom, very cold
The best thing about this hotel is the location. The renovated rooms were nice. If they had been done to a higher spec this hotel could be charging top dollar but there are too many let downs.
The windows were old and had huge gaps so the noise from outside was ridiculous. I know NY is noisy but i expect at least a little insulation. This really should have been dealt with in the renovation by at least putting in some thick curtains rather than thin sheets across the windows. For this reason alone, I would not stay here again.
Everything else. Especially the bathroom hardware.
My bathroom had a window that couldn't close, so it was very cold in there. Also there was only one passenger elevator at this stage in the renovation process (November 2014).
friendly and helpful stuff，nice and comfy room
no kettle，no slippers，no toothbrush
Clean, comfortable room. Nice staff. Perfect location
Close to MoMath, Rooftop terrace, Empire State and walking distance (10 to 30 blocks) from fancy restaurants in Chelsea (like buddakan), Times Square through Broadway ave., excellent location. There is a Japanese guy in the staff who is very pleasant
They are remodeling the hotel, so the elevators are lazy, the reception is for sure not beautiful right now...
Perfect hotel. A fantastic place to experience the spirit of this hipster neighborhood. Rooms big, very clean and nice furnished. Really liked the music note bathroom and the old vinyl record in the bedroom. Awesome!!!! The housekeeping team was very good too. Only minus is the lobby and the elevator. But finishing renovations I think it will be exactly as good as the rest of the hotel. But thumps up for the Mac computers in the lobby. All of the front desk staff and concierges were very friendly and helpful. Especially Arielle did a very good job. Getting around in New York from here is . A bunch of good diners very close to the hotel, so don't worry about eating! I really enjoyed staying at the Gershwin. Thank you for a really pleasant stay. I'll be back someday.
great place to stay in NYC, the hotel has been renovated and is very comfortable. Nice staff, great location.
slow elevator or old windows might be a bit disturbing, but they are to be renovated/changed soon.
Great location, near to two metro lines, sarabeth, starbucks, 24hours drug store. Their staffs were very friendly and room was lately innovated and beautifully furnished.
The elevator moves really slow but had to wait because of stairs which was under innovation process. Sometimes toilet doesn't flash properly. Cold bathroom.
Excellent location, free upgrade caused by reconstruction.
Delay during check in after official check-in time due to hotel reconstruction. Hardly could find hotel and can't find short parking place for unloading.
We had the executive suite, it was large and wonderfully furnished. There is a bedroom and then a sitting room. We loved the mini grammophone for the iPOD :), the whole room was very relaxing and beautifully appointed, with hints of 1930s style decor. The bathroom was very spacious as well (it featured both a large shower and bathtub), the tiles had the Manhattan sheet music printed on it, we tried to sing it, then found an Ella Fitzgerald rendition online, which was much better :) The personnel was amazing! They were all very prompt and thoughtful (we had just had a horrible experience in Chicago at checkin in another hotel, so the welcome at the Gershwin was exactly like a hotel welcome should be: perfect). We didn't care that the lobby is still under construction, there was no dust anywhere and the charm of the building and staff made up for it tenfold. Will be happy to stay at the Gershwin again :)
