It was built around 1970 and hasn't been updated. Furniture is old, mattress is creaky and uncomfortable, the shower and shower curtain were very old
Location in the national park, proximity to easy trails and day cruise

Love manager Jeff. He is a great help!

staff was not very friendly. appeared to be short of staff, most employees, especially dining room and wait staff seemed overworked, forgetful, and frazzled. Management shd be fired. They were out of many basic essentials.
Location, location, location, views, views, views. Trip up Glacier Bay

The room is very expensive when compared to other B&B's in the area, granted, they have no view. The food is terrible. The menu is very limited and they run out of many items on the menu leaving even fewer choices. The restaurant is run by Aramark and the quality, service and selection is among the worst I've ever seen. While on this trip, we did eat at the Gustavus Inn because we were tired of bad food at the Lodge. The dinner at Gustavus Inn was fabulous. You need reservations and its $50 per person, but good quality, fabulous preparation, and excellent service ... Just the opposite of the food at the Lodge.
The location is beautiful with most rooms having a view of Bartlett Cove. The National Park staff was also wonderful. There are guided hikes and a great 8-hour boat trip into Glacier Bay. We saw moose, brown bears, bald eagles, porcupines and glaciers.

Lack of variety of activities: one big boattrip and rain forest trails. The whole area is too flat with only lake inlets and hemlocks. A new lodge should be located way up closer to the glaciers.
The welcome and the evening talks.

For the price you pay, the rooms and facilities are greatly outdated, small, and uncomfortable. There isn't any cellular service on the property, and the only wi-fi is in the lobby of the lodge. If you want to completely check out from reality, this place is for you. However, the only real activity to do is the glacier bay boat tour.
The staff was excellent and accommodating when we needed to make a last minute change to our reservation.

The switch for the light I most wanted to use was hidden where it took me half an hour to find. Clerk at desk could not help. Had to walk back to main building to get ice. Main building not open at night.
Location in the park. Quiet. Nature trail. Handy to boat tour of Glacier Bay.

beds not very comfortable

getting reservations was difficult - dining service could be more efficient - long waits - accomodations need updating - mattresses are awful -
location is great - once we got to the lodge everyone was great

Location not convenient for going to Gustavus especially if you wanted to eat someplace else. The shuttle was available only for airport or Gustavus pier. Round trip taxi would cost $60. Breakfast buffet was dull. The scrambled eggs looked like square pieces of tofu. The coffee had zero coffee taste. Other food options were not apparent, so, if you wanted toast (not on buffet) you had to ask. Same for sweet potato French fries which weren't on the menu but we saw on other plates. You heard from other guests how delicious they were. Why not let the guests know about it? Problems with communication between lodge, Aramark corporate office and the individual concessions. For example, we had made a reservation for half-day whale watch with Aramark but the taz boat captain (concession) received the wrong date. We wasted a half-day going back to the lodge and back again in the pm for the trip. Same problem with communication between Kayak concession, guide and front desk. If the guest does not keep checking you will miss your appointment. The coordination between Aramark, the Lodge and the concession needs improvement!
Our room with view of bay. Waitress Sarah and waiter Giorgio. Proximity to bay. All inclusive option.
