Good Hotel  

First of all the Good Hotel looked nothing like the pictures I saw on its website. It is dirty, run down and smells terrible. I had requested a queen bed weeks in advance and was given a room with two doubles in two separate rooms. Not exactly conducive to a romantic birthday trip. I also requested an early check-in and was denied when we arrived, even though it was only 1 hour before standard check-in. We asked if we could at least leave our stuff somewhere because we were had to leave to go to the Giants game and would not be home until well after midnight. They said no and we had to leave our stuff in the car (in a bad neighborhood) and get ready and change in the parking lot for the baseball game. The thing that we were least satisfied was with the check-out process. I signed a bill for $183 for the room, taxes and parking (way too much for this sub par room) but then was charged $258 on my credit card. I called the hotel about the elevated charge and they said the extra charge was for "incidentals" and that it would be taken off if everything in our room was found to be okay. Are you kidding me? My husband and I are professionals in our 30s. It took the Good Hotel 5 days after we checked out to refund the charge. If something was damaged in the room wouldn't the staff notice immediately upon our departure when cleaning the room? Why is it necessary to hold our $75 for 5 days? $75 does certainly not "make or break us" but the practice is ridiculous. Like every other hotel in the world, when a person checks in, the hotel asks for a credit card to keep information on file if damage does happen to occur. I have never heard of a hotel charging the money up front, holding it for nearly a week, and then only refunding the money if you call repeatedly and if there are no "incidentals." I would never stay here again and recommend that you don't either!!!

They charged my credit card more than I signed on my receipt on check out.

The shower

The hotel staff was incredibly rude. We had asked if we could extend our stay and the manager on duty said it was fine. After shift change the other manager came on duty and threw us out, yelled at me, and threatened to call the police. I am not sure what we did to make him so angry or why when I called back the staff would just keep hanging up on me and then lie when asked about it. Also, our heater in our room wasn't working so we had to stay in our sweaters, jackets and wrapped in blankets during our entire stay. This hotel is also a block away from one of S.F.'s worst neighborhoods, Sixth & Mission (the hotel is locate Seventh and Mission). There are homeless, drug addicts loitering all over. Good Hotel; Bad Idea

The staffs are friendly. The room is clean. Location is good. 3 blocks to where all the happenings happens.

Is kind of noisy both in the night and early morning. There are people talking just outside our windows. There is also a few flies in the room.

The hotel itself is fine.

The neighborhood in which the hotel is located is not ideal. While completely fine for walking through in the daytime, this is not a good area to walk alone at night.

Great location for affordable price. Also, sweet sustainable toilets.

Rooms are a little small.

The room was not as described or as per the photo.

The location was fantastic, and the hotel had an informal book exchange method. Leave a book you no longer wanted in the room for subsequent guests and read books left by previous guests - a very cool idea.

It's the only hotel in the us where I've stayed that didn't have face cloths available along with towels, which seemed rather odd.

Hotel was not far from downtown and clean and tidy.

The hotel was situated two blocks in a rough area so to go anywhere you have to walk past a redlight area. It also isn't quite as good as the photos.

I exhibit at shows like WonderCon and ape, so I always try to stay in a hotel somewhere in SoMa. It's a fun area. The aesthetic is cool and IKEA- Y. The toilet and light sensors were great, too. The room was very clean, and ceiling fan was a necessity as it was warmer than expected in sf. Bed was comfortable, if you like a firm bed. The tv is fine Sidebar is a nice place to eat if you're too tired to walk to the more foodie- friendly spots in SoMa.

Deposit: heads up, they will hold and extra $75/per night on your card for incidentals like movies and food. It's sold as a convenience, but I think that is completely unnecessary. If your purse strings are tight, you may not be able to afford that much being held on your card. Parking: The hotel seemed like a good value until we learned the parking fee: $20/day, plus parking tax. I know sf is not a parking-friendly city (and I like that) but geez! It's hard to feel like you got your money's worth here. Sparing and IKEA-y is neat, but there are ways to be eco- friendly without looking like a hostel. If you're young and into sparing and cheap, book the hip Hotel Elements in the Mission. It was nice that they gave us a "Family Suite," but we're a couple and did not need it. Seemed like a poor use of space. One problem with the bed: on the first night, I found the sheets a bit irritating (although I have crazy sensitive skin). We like the fun decor and plush bedding at bw Americania, but it was sold out. If you flew and you're here for fun, this is place is sufficient only if you can get it under 120/night. If you're driving and too busy on business to enjoy the bike borrowing and other perks, book elsewhere.
