Location! Nothing more!!
Everything!! The room I booked was not the room I got!! Price of room is a joke when you look at standard of room!!
Breakfast was very good.
not fancy, but offers all the comforts you need.
The room and halls do not exactly have a fresh look. The breakfast area is overcrowded — did not even try to get there. There's only one elevator and a very narrow stairway, leading to congestion at times.
Standard of the rooms (moisture smell in one), escalator access, the breakfast.
Staffs are very nice.
A little cold but the air-condition could only provide cool air. One thing the hotel should know that Chinese people like drinking hot water. If the hotel could provide hot water that would be prefect!
The location was doable.
Appliances not working, lamps, fridge, air conditioner/heater. Needed ice for injury....NO ice in hotel, very slow elevator. Non interactive desk manager... Language barrier. Room maid worked very hard.
The hotel was surprisingly quiet for such a central location. The staff were very welcoming and helpful - especially Jack on the front desk - and there was a complimentary breakfast buffet.
Our room for three was very small, but Jack moved us to a larger room when one became available.
Captains cafe next door.
Location was within walking distance to Empire State, Subways Penn Station etc. The Reception Staff nothing was too much trouble---- even when our booked Cab was taken by other parties they stepped right in and got another
Although breakfast was more than adequate space to sit and eat limited
Good location. Light breakfast included which we did not expect. Very efficient staff.
Small lift, had to wait ten minutes for one the day we were checking out, other days we took the stairs. Carpet on stairs was dirty, also be sure you bring your slippers for the bedroom. Carpets need changing.
Centrally located, easy access to subway; does provide free WiFi in the rooms
Small rooms, sparse amenities, no closet, no shelf for toilettries, ancient heating/cooling system, barely working hair dryer, no exercise room, no business center ot at least a room with a printer, no eggs/warm food for breakfast, greatly overpriced airport shuttle
We were there to see the city, not stay in the hotel room. We wanted something in a good location that was clean and comfortable and the Hotel Grand Union fit the bill perfectly. the room was clean, the staff was courteous and helpful and we were very pleased
as everyone has commented the elevator is small and can be a little slow but that was hardly a drawback compared to all the pluses
Location and service.
Really enjoyed complimentary breakfast & location in the heart of midtown Manhattan. Clean room if slightly small. Comfy bed and good water pressure for showers (plenty of piping hot water).
Television very big & old and difficult to position for a clear view from the bed.
we had a family room which was roomy. This is an older hotel but was really fine in a good location, close to the subway and Empie State Building. The lift can be a challenge but we really didn't have an issue with it once we worked out when it was particularly busy and avoided that time
The size of the room was much larger than expected, & very clean. We also appreciated the complementary breakfast & the helpfulness of the staff.
We had a little trouble adjusting the heat to a comfortable level. Also, another towel rack would have been nice.
Staff is well-intentioned and helpful. The continental breakfast featured a nice fruit bowl. The reception was open at 2:00 am for check-in. Abundant towels and clean.
Ancient tvs and no real amenities. Dirty hallway carpets and small breakfast room. I was told that the hotel will soon close for a complete and much-needed overhawl.
Location was very good for access to points of interest in NY. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable.
The staff is very friendly, even during 2 am-checking in
The room, the dusty corridors, the ever-movement of trash bins in the street -there might be a trash hub down the street so trucks come and go all night-. I needed to sleep from 2am to 7.30am and get ready for a business meeting. Did not happen
The room was very large for NYC and had a queen size bed and two twin beds - perfect for a family of 4. The hotel is very quiet. We could not hear any other guests or any street noise. The hotel is very centrally located and convenient to public transit and a short walk to the Empire State Building. The continental breakfast was good to get you going in the morning and the coffee was excellent. The staff was helpful and printed tickets for us. There is a parking garage on the block for $30 day.
The room was very dated and the pillows are terrible. I would stay there again but bring my own pillow. The window air conditioner was VERY loud. There is no ice machine in the hotel so after an 8hr drive we had to go to 7-11 to get ice.
a lot of noise from the street only one elevator for 10 floors
Good location, the Captain Cafe resturant was good and provided value for your money.
Very slow and single elevator, that most times you need to go up and down 8 floors, small and old rooms, the value for money was the worse I had
Location Price Comfortable bed Refrigerator Clean room
Noise from street Occasionally uncomfortably cold room
Hotel is in a good location. I was pushed to take this booking as my usual which is Hilton Garden on 52nd was very high rate due to UN Convention. Hotel has a great little quick stop dine next door at a great value connected to the lobby. Most occupants are on tours and foreign. Breakfast is continental and not enough space for tours and others. Room was clean but older, as is hotel. It is a good value for what you get. Staff are nice too.
