Found the room noisy from street traffic at night. Single glazing so even with window shut it was quite noisy. With window shut room became stuffy, especially when the heating came on in the early hours - also quite noisy. So sleeping was a bit difficult.
We liked the staff and the easy-going not-too-formal approach of the staff. Friendly, but non-intrusive. Unlimited access to boiling water/tea making in reception area. Relaxed approach to breakfast, helping yourself to pastries, fruit, tea - no fuss, able to take to your room. Free good quality wi-fi.
Not worth how much we spent we only chose for location but we were extremely disappointed with the value of hotel.
Good location, close to everything.
The receptionist actually hung up on us when we were asking the best way to get to the hotel from the airport. When we checked in she was so rude to us and actually was complaining TO us about the previous customer asking about his luggage! The beds were about as comfortable as sleeping on the floor.
The location was right around the corner from Union square so it was a short walk downhill.
No major complaints. Bit pricey for basic room and breakfast (pastries, apples and coffee/tea). Window faced wall as room was not facing street but street noise reduced by this fact!!
Proximity to bart, starting point of cable car lines. Clean bathroom, room. Wifi availability. Free self service coffee and tea all day.
Pastries and drinks were offered in the morning but very limited and in spartan surroundings Coffee only available outside breakfast hours. Large window, but with view of brick wall about 6ft away - no need to close curtains !
The central location was great as we only had one day to spend in SF.
The hotel showed character of San francisco. Anyone can stay at a Best Western, but if you are looking to fall in love with San Francisco the Grant Hotel is where you'll start.
Breakfast could have been better and staff were not that friendly
Good location, good wifi, rooms were nice and big
Staff check in efficiency.
Bed, clean and location.
Room windows looked onto a brick wall that was right up against the building. This resulted in the room being dark during the day. The hotel did have an unpleasant, somewhat musty smell.
Very convenient location in relation to the conference center (about a 15 min walk). Room was small but comfortable. Walls thin, but I actually didn't experience too much noise (I did hear the gentleman nextdoor snoring). Breakfast included, but very basic (apples, pastries, coffee).
The room was clean and quiet, wi-fi connection was great
Reception was indifferent. Quite noisy
Location, American breakfast
could be better breakfast and to have the coffee available all the time. Be able to print plane boarding pass free.
The front desk staff was terrible. They spoke English some but either did not really understand English or did not want to answer questions. I felt lucky just to be able to get checked out. It took forever to check in and out and was very confusing. Breakfast is just boxes of pastries on the counter and a slow coffee machine that makes one cup at a time, although the coffee was better than those room coffee machines. It was just a place to sleep and somewhat affordable for San Francisco.
Close to walk to Chinatown and the cable cars. There is a parking garage literally right across the street. You need to pay parking at the hotel and get your ticket validated by the hotel to get your car released.
I had asked for a quiet room and my room was indeed very quiet, so I was able to get excellent sleep. I had been worried by all the negative reviews saying that it was a loud place. I guess it depends what kind of room you get. I was also pleasantly surprised by the comfort and space.
need to climb up a bit steep sloping road to get to the hotel
good service and clean room with reasonable price.
Some noise from street
The room layout is what you can expect from an older hotel. Huge walkin closet, but no tabel and chairs. The TV was aweful. Every channel was snow over the program. In central SF, I would have expected better reception. But the staff and location were great.
The price was right. They had a nice selection of pastries for the compt. breakfast. There are a number of great restaaunts within walking distance. Nice part of the city to roam and visit on foot if you have time to kill.Older but still a good place to stay. Clean and comfortable. Would stay again.
Continental breakfast - a bit of a joke - no butter or jam, no milk for coffee or tea. No fridge in room.
Reasonably quiet given its CBD location. Room very adequate & quiet (back of building)
I found a few flies in my room on the ceilings. I stayed in two seperate rooms during my stay (checked out and then checked in a few days later), both rooms had flies which was a little off putting but apart from that the toilet and bedroom where clean and acceptable!
The hotel facilities were basic but then I was expecting that! For the price it's a great hotel and since I wasn't in my room for long during the day it's was fine as a place to crash in the evenings! The central location was great and the tram line runs really close by the hotel which was great too! The breakfast was basic but again I was expecting that but a nice option to have when I was in a rush in the mornings and meant I didn't need to leave the hotel on an empty stomach! The room sizes were great (warm and quiet) and bed was very comfortable. Location overall was excellent and I felt very safe staying alone but within the hotel and surrounding areas! I'll stay again next time I'm back in San Fransisco!!
There was some black hair in the bath when we arrived, but apart from that, it seemed clean enough.
It was comfortable and the location was nice. The staff seemed very proffesional. I felt safe, and the breakfast was fine. The wifi wasn't very fast, but it was okay.
No extra's in the room, mini frig, hair dryer, coffee pot. Beds were not comfortable at all. No exhaust fan in the bathroom. Communication barrier with front desk personnel, very broken English.
Wonder Valet across the street at the parking garage. In the heart of Downtown, charming old building. Free ice & water. Decent price for where the location is. New carpet in the room
Breakfast minimal, stale pastries.
Reasonable access to Union Square and cable car.
Walls were thin and we could hear other guests. The complimentary breakfast was awful.
Free wifi, great location
