I have traveled extensively for business and plesaure over the last 25 years. This inn is, significantly, the NOISIEST of any hotel, motel, inn, etc. I have stayed at- EVER. Soundproofing is nonexistent and hence, you are directly exposed to all heavy traffic through Stowe by 3AM. If you like to sleep with your head buried in a pillow, suit yourself. I don't. For this reason alone, I will not return to the Green Mountain Inn. You have been warned.
Another problem: I had reserved months in advance to be sure to have the accomodation I wanted at a busy time of year. The inn destroyed that reservation and improvised a new room. Technically an upgrade, the improvised accomodations had us 1- having to stay in a room for one night, then move all our gear, etc. to another room, 2- the next room was a 'family room' with short kiddy beds, with my 6'2'' nephew's feet sticking out.
But the real clincher was reception staff's attitude. They tried to have me pay for their mistake (an upgrade, so you need to pay more, right?). I had to really insist on my original reservation, which I had with me, for them to adjust the price.
BUT THE FOLLOWING DAY, reception staff came back and tried to charge me another night. I had to do longhand math on a piece of paper to PROVE I WAS RIGHT. Unbelievable- it was clear management was not acknowledging its mistake (I had written proof of my reservation).
Staff at breakfast- the nicest people anywhere!!
Breakfast itself- wonderful, freah, homemade pastries, etc.- don NOT bother having breakfast anywhere else in Stowe!
