Comfortable stay, free breakfast! Love to stay again!
Was more crowded that I thought it would be.
The room was clean and comfortable. There were two flights of stairs and no elevator, but the staff helped me with my bag. Staff was helpful and friendly. Location is superb, although close to the strip clubs.
If you're looking for a place to make new friends with fellow travelers from all over the world, this is the place to do it. The social events that they hostel organizes are a lot of fun. The rooms are fairly nice and if you wear earplugs, the bars across the street aren't a problem. The guys at the front desk are awesome (especially Joe!).
Close to everthing. Breakfast provided everyday as well as dinner some nights. Staff were good (Nicolas was very helpful).
Clubs outside were quite loud to early morning in weekend.
free self-service breakfast though it's very simple and basic. clean bathroom. very convenient location.
not enough bathrooms, need to wait in the morning. This is the only one of all the hotels and hostels I've stayed that I wake up constantly during the night because of the noise coming from the street that our room's window is right towards.
Well localized and has a good breakfast
The room lockers could be better
The location was very convenient to anywhere I planned to go for this trip. The janitor worked very hard. The person worked in the kitchen was nice.
The roommate I stayed with made lots of noise after midnight very night. And, she talked to herself during both day time and night time. I couldn’t get rests at day time and night time. I tried to switch the room but failed. I was forced to stay with her for 3 nights. That meant I couldn’t get any rest for 4 days.
The green tortoise was a welcome relief after staying at another horrible hostel in San Fran, changed our view of the city.nGreat location
Would like come back again
The hostel itself is colorful, has a great style and is filled with open-minded people! The private rooms in the extra building a block away from the actual hostel are great for couples - plus you still get all the advantages of the hostel while sleeping in a more quiet and private setting.
The only thing I can say here is DON'T COME WITH A CAR! Or if absolutely impossible do not park the car at the garage the hostel recommends!! These guys are absolutely unfriendly and unreliable and after two nights we got our rental back with a nice scratch and bump on the back bumper. They denied having anything to do with it and after a quick glance declared it an "old scratch".
Excellent price and location. A laundry is just what solo travelers need. Nice activities, good for meeting new friends. Hot water for tea, really important for a Chinese guy :-) Staff is helpful and really cares about safety (door locks at night, must show keys to get in)
Many bars nearby, good for nightlife but bad for sleeping.
With breakfast, and poor diner but it's ok since free...
I little expensive, if can be 10$ off would be fine but anyway it's San Francisco you can't purchase for more.
Free Sauna and Dinner.
this hostel has it all, great personal. Spacious lockers in the room, good beds and sheets. There is breakfast every morning, and dinner three times a week, is the perfect place to stay !
close to the wharf, china town and many places
too many stairs, no elevator, it's ok for backpackers but not ok with big lugguge.
Great location Friendly, helpful staff Many organised activities available
That I didn't stay there longer!
Friendly and clean
It was great
free wifi and breaktfast, nice location and kind staff .
Price, free terminal to surf the net.
Location, quite old and not feeling comfortable and clean about everything.
This hostel has a sick atmosphere - massive kitchen and sweet common room area, well equipped for cooking and really cool staff. Best hostel breakfast I've had! Egg basket for DIY eggs: massive tick. Wifi worked everywhere in the hostel - simple things make green tortoise a great place.
I only stayed one night!! Next time I'm in SF I'll be back at Green Tortoise.
I loved how friendly the staff was at the green tortoise. Everyone was down to earth and eager to help, and seemed genuinely happy to be there. The location was pretty cool too, only a few blocks to China Town and very conveniently close to a street full of pubs/bars. It was also very close to the Beat Museum (small, but a must see). Free breakfast in the morning saved us a lot of cash, and the public transit in San Fran is cheap and generally pretty easy to navigate. The hostel has evening group activities basically every night of the week, so if your looking to make new friends in a strange city the hostel is a great way to do it. This was by far the best vacation I've been on in years.
Being on the street with all the strip clubs was a little nerve wracking at first, but everything proved to be safe enough as long as you were smart. I got cat called once by a stripper, which made for a funny story to tell back home. I might not go there if I was travelling solo unless I knew I could handle myself in a city.
Great place to stay! Wonderful location and fun overall experience. Really like this place and will be back :-)
Very user friendly, comfortable rooms and good wifi and washing facilities.
There could of been a larger selection at breakfast.
Green Tortoise Hostel is an amazing place to stay for solo traveller, I met there so many nice people. The staff, the food and all things are awesome! I also can recommend the Green Tortoise Adventures Tours =)
