Halcyon Hotel  

EVERYTHING!!! facilities were great. Location was fab. Up the road from union square and walkable to the f line which takes you to fishermans wharf.!! Perfect!!!! To many good point such good value for money!!

Because its located in the road some rooms can be a little noisy but not something I would say effected us!!!

Close to amenities, staff really friendly and helpful, brick apparent in the bathroom, mini kitchen within the room and laundry facilities downstairs.

No lift so difficult if heavy luggage.

Housekeeping once in three days, wi-fi isn't complimentary, heating switches itself off in the night, leaving everybody freezing, very small and old bathroom, really inconvenient.

Noise from other rooms...voices and snoring from adjoining room and footsteps from room above. Would have liked room on top floor as duration of stay was more than three weeks.

Room was very small Shower was quite unpleasant - very hard to get the temperature right, and it fluctuated without touching the taps from freezing cold to too hot to stand under; also very small Bed was so hard I woke up sore in the morning

Very sweet receptionist. Very helpful and provide lots of information for my visiting in San Francisco. Small hotel, very compacted room but has everything in the room. Room is very clean too. Great location, only a few blocks to Union Square. If you are travelling on budget, this is a great choice.

Proximity to theaters, Union Square, cable cars,public transportation. Room had claw foot tub, frig, microwave, cable tv. New furnishings, clean euro design. Near great restaurants.

Old,tired,dark and dull.Our room was next to the entrance door,so you heard everyone coming and going.The room was small for three adults,no wardrobe,just a cupboard with no hangers.the double bed was old that you felt the springs and heard your every movement,the bedding was drab.The shower was seperate from the bathroom with a slightly frosted glass door that faced into the room,so when we had a shower we hung a towel over the door so we were not visible,as we had our twentyfour year old with us, I am sure he does not want to see his mother naked.The bathroom was very small,no shelves to put your washbags on,when going into the bathroom you could not open the door fully as it would hit the double bed.No air-con,so for air we opened the window,which was held opened with a block of wood,but when doing that we had all the noise from outside(not fun)especially on friday night,there is a night club opposite,so until quarter to four in the morning we were kept awake(and yes we closed the window)No room to put suitcase's.We had stayed in four hotel's before this one,one in San Francisco on arrival,sonora,vegas and L.A.all approx the same price,but they were exellent,white sheets,room to swing a cat,wardrobe's,clean and fresh.How the halycon can call themselves a Hotel is beyond me,they go home about five,so there is no staff on site.Would not recommend if you are used to good quality.They did give a refund of a 100dollars-approx £63 because we asked to be moved,but did'nt happen.

My original room was beset by a plumbing problem prior to my arrival. The hotel manager called me to inform me that they had put me up in a neighboring hotel for my first night in the city. I was totally surprised and most grateful, since most hotels wouldn't make the accommodation, and having travel directly from Washington D.C., I wouldn't have wanted to make the journey to find I was without a room. They even discounted the succeeding two nights I stayed at the Halcyon. Based on the high level of service from the wonderful staff, I would certainly recommend staying at this hotel.

I have a young child with me, so the microwave and frige were handy that I need to feed breakfast and milk to my yound daughter who is below 2. I put the milk in the fridge, so she could have cereal breakfast every morning and I heat the milk at night for her. This is good for family with young child

The reception works for 9-5, so you can't reach them after 5pm. When i arrived in the room, it was quite smelly and the bathroom was small. The bathtube was broken and rust around the hole. It was noisy at night cos the street next to it was full of homeless people. There was no hot water on day 1 and day 3. It improved after i complained.

The hotel is very cosy and clean inside. the price is more than okay because of the location next to downtown. the front desk is open between 9 am and 5 pm. we arrived after 5pm so we got an email with all the information and things to know. the key was in our room. we had a room for three people. it was not huge but big enough for the three of us. just around the corner are the marriot and other luxury hotels. I think the location is very good. San Francisco has a lot of homeless people so there are also some around the hotel but we never felt unsafe. the best shopping is just 5 min away from the hotel!!! all in all: we liked the Halcyon Hotel stay and we would book it again. we just been at the hotel for sleeping so if you plan to spend a lot of time in the hotel you should maybe book a hotel with frontdesk, bar and restaurant.

There is no elevator, so don´t come with big luggage. there is no stuff which could help you!!! the hotel is located really close to downtown so it could be a little bit loud at night with open windows.

The hotel was situtated very near to public transportation, the tourist informatin centre and union square

The fact that it was located very near to a church that took care of homeless people. This caused a lot of begging people, asking you for money.

Located near Union Square; room included a mini refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker,coffee, plates, cups and utensils. Located near the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre where we made reservation to see a play.

TV was too small, no elevators, parking rate increased...not same as adverticed on internet.

Character of the building itself. Centralized location but removed enough to make it quaint.
