Super rainforest-like environment with a hot tub ready to go when we arrived. Well stocked functional kitchen. Lovely rainwater shower. Very close to volcano national park.
It would have been nice if the master bedroom bed was more comfortable. Covers on the duvets would be more appealing. Bed spreads need to be cleaned or just use clean duvet covers each time and not bedspreads. Glad we arrived in daylight. Challenging to locate the first time.
It's in a safe, secluded, peaceful area. Love the corner store, Cafe Ohia and the Thai restaurant nearby.
Washer and dryer weren't available
Rainforest feel. Tranquil setting. Relaxing. Close to national park. Everything that was needed. Spa
Unfortunately the bed was a little small for us as we are use to a king bed, it seems bad to comment in this box cos we loved the property.
Beautiful house, great location
House was humid and at times cold. Proper heating would improve the overall quality of the stay at the house.
Great location felt like we were staying in the jungle, the house was very well equipped the hot tub was very nice after a full days walking in the national park the tai restaurant down the road is very good to
Loved it all. Perfect location
Had to buy a lighter for the wood burning stove.
Beautiful surroundings and location, hot tub
Difficult to find at night. House is on an unpaved road.
Location, beauty, comfort. Everything was wonderful.
We loved this experience and the setting is a little bit "magical." This home is well-appointed and very clean. We had all the condiments we needed for our short stay and appreciated just how quaint and beautiful this spot is. Highly recommend it!
Not much to upgrade…the internet is slow, but that could be the over-all location.
The house was cute, and comfortable for our family of 5. Close to Volcano Park, and a few dining options, but definitely do grocery shopping in Hilo.
The back yard appeared bigger in the photos, not big enough for the kids to run around. The road to get there is in bad condition, unpaved with many large potholes.
Potholes in road getting in.
The jacuzzi outside was very nice after a long day in the volcano / long day trip. Really relaxing. Very nice house with wild birds outside.
The road right up to the cottage has some potholes and we were kind of worried with the rental car especially after rainy days.
House is spacious and well designed. Has all the modern comforts. Less than a mile to the National Park. Nice to be in the rainforest where the only sounds you hear are the birds. I never saw anyone while I was there. A pleasant change from a hotel.
The unpaved road to the house needs some grading, it's very rough.
unique location in the middle of the rainforest, close proximity to the National Park
very cold at night, no diswasher
Hot tub Location close to NP
We really enjoyed the setting of the cottage. Beautifully set in the woods/jungle, very private setting, quiet and serene. The hot tub was great after hiking all day in Volcano National Park, although the pump was noisy at times. The home has lots of character and the stain glassed windows were beautiful.
Only con is trying to find it. The "streets" are all single lane and rough in the area, and are almost jungle overgrown. We arrived at almost dark and it took a couple try's to find it. I would definitely be sure to arrive in the day light, as at night time, it would be a real task to find.
Location. Hot tub. Nicely furnished. Very comfortable.
Would have liked second half bath for 4 adults.
We easily found Hale Nahele on a drizzly day, and enjoyed a wood stove ready to go with a strike of a match. We prepared our dinner in a well laid out kitchen, while soaking in the hot tub until it was ready. We slept very well, waking early to tour the volcano in a local helicopter. I would recommend this clean cottage to all! Thanks Bob
lovely setting, well-equipped, private, roomy, close to park, and cute. A great getaway close to hiking in Volcanoes NP
a little hard to find
Fantastic location, felt like we were in the middle of the tropical rain forest
This is a comfortable clean little place suitable for four people located in a great location just a few minutes from volcano park. Nobody is waiting to meet you so you can show up any time you want. You get e-mailed directions and a code to a lock box with the key to the house in it. There is phone numbers of the manager and the house keeper if you need them for anything and we did and they answer the phone every time we called.
It isn't easy to find and don't trust your GPS to find this place. Follow the directions your e-mailed and you shouldn't have too much difficulty finding the place. House did smell like someone tried to have a fire without opening up the damper and smoked up the whole place. We did have a big problem we discovered at about 9 pm we had no water and had to make a couple of phone calls to the manager and the house keeper and we eventually figured out the water tank was empty. Each house in this area has a large above ground tank that collects rain water that becomes your water supply. The manager gave us a choice of staying there and they would try to get the tank filled the next day or they could send us to another house that had water. We decided to move and they ended up upgrading us to a much larger house that was fabulous. I don't think you should drink or cook with the water from the houses in this area especially after discussing this with a waitress that lives near this house but showering in it is perfectly fine. Bring drinking water with you and follow the advice your e-mailed and buy your groceries in Hilo before you come. The local store does have some groceries but it's very expensive.
Luxurious, roomy hot tub Privacy Laundry facilities Quaint town Plenty of closet space and linens
Wood stove smoked up whole house, therefore, cold No working smoke detectors Half size refrigerator that needed defrosting, no room for ice cream or produce drawers Poor flow in shower Loud motor on hot tub--sounded like a lawn mower running Dirty windows Poor directions, e.g., seventh house on left--couldn't count them in the dark Poor address identification--not legible even with flashlight in the dark Refill drinking water dispenser not sealed--smelled of chlorine
Very secluded and private, beautiful setting. Hot tub, washer & dryer, wood burning stove w/ lots of firewood, fully equipped kitchen, electric heaters in rooms, lots of towels. Flat screen TVs and WiFi!
Firewood guy dumped a load of firewood in garage and we had to move it so we could park our car. Ran out of water on last morning.
The house is charmingly decorated and very comfortable. We enjoyed staying in the midst of the rainforest yet so close to Volcanoes National Park.
