The house is about a mile from the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. So it was easy to hike and come home for a meal or to escape the rain, and go right back to the park later. Be sure to get up for sunrise at the Halemaumau Crater!

We had specifically requested that no fragrances would be used on the sheets and in the house due to our severe allergies and asthma. However, the owner or housekeeper did not do this, and we suffered serious asthmatic problems all night. This was extremely difficult and very disappointing for us. Also, on windy nights, the metal roof makes constant noise, so bring ear plugs.

Its proximity to National Park was phenomenal

Screaming banshees in adjacent "cabin"- unclear if they were part of a rude family of vacationers or full-time residents. Loft design required carrying bags up steep narrow staircase, then ducking under low beams. Smelled somewhat of mildew. Had to call to determine how to operate shower- not intuitive

Location was perfect for seeing the sights in Vocanoes National Park. Hale Nene is a piece of hidden Hawaii and borders on a golf course.
