so much room fruits of the garden
This property worked for us as we are moving to Hawai'i. Spacious, Eric is very friendly. Laid back and great people staying at the aamw tine. Kitchen is awesome.
Property needs a good scrubbing.
Good and quiet location up the hill, where it is also a little cooler. Several restaurants and a grocery store are close (5 minute drive). Shared kitchen well equipped.
The shared parts of the house (including the shared kitchen) need cleaning more frequently. Also the private lanai should be cleaned occasionally.
Location is good and high on the elevation therefore without air-conditioning we were fine.
The rooms and bedsheets were not clean. Too many flies in kitchen. Our room has no view at all.
Good facilities and location but a bit hostel-like. Eric was very obliging but it is really too much for one person to do a super job.
smell of mould and dirt round the edges.
Huge suites (2BR, living room), very quiet. Friendly owner. Kitchen to share.
A bit dated.
Very friendly! Large living area and ability to cook on sight. Loved our stay here.
Spacious rooms. Homey atmosphere. areas and laundry. Helpful manager.
2nd bedroom had a fold out futon rather than a bed, but the manager was very helpful in offering and providing a solution.
We loved the red phone that connected you to all your needs. You need a car to reach the accommodation. It is so far removed from a beach resort.
The sliding glass door to the balcony, with a screen door to allow great airflow. Great view of tropical fruit orchards and the ocean in one direction (from the bedrooms and balcony) and mountains in another. The property has a tropical fruit orchard. Picking our own fresh fruit was fun, healthful and delicious. There is a large, well appointed community kitchen and dining, plus private refrigerator and dining in each room. Available for guests to borrow are ice chests, snorkeling equipment and folding chairs.
Loved the communal kitchen and living room areas. Appreciated two fridges and the idea of leaving food items for others to share. Owner was very friendly.
Rooms were very damp and smelled of mildew. No fan in the bathroom only made this worse following a shower. Internet TV did not stream Netflix well, which was a bummer when trying to use the communal space. No coffee?!!
Private hostel. The owner is very friendly and introduce his house to everybody lived in. It is like a home and not expensive comparing to other hotels in that location. Highly recommended.
The place is hard to find. Road is unpaved and the driver needs to be very careful especially at night.
The facility and amenities
Very hard to find; when get to final road does not appear correct; asked residents, no clue.
1. The quiet location, within an easy drive to our favourite snorkel spot. 2. the welcoming, helpful and generous approach by the owner, Eric. 3. Spacious suites and very comfortable bed. 4.large, well-equipped common kitchen. 5. laundry facilities. 6. Reasonably priced. 7. potential for a future family vacation.
some small repairs needed
Great small hotel to stay in the Captain Cook area
We stayed there for 9 nights. We had 2 bedrooms , lounge room and bathroom and balcony with ocean views ( if the weather was clear). It certainly made our stay very pleasant. Kitchen was well stocked up . I liked that you could leave any left over foods for others to use. Very quiet and beautiful place. The size of the avocados I picked, were huge. Free internet !!
Comfortable, large like an apartment without the kitchen. The kitchen is downstairs and is a community kitchen. Fruit can be picked. Nice place to stay.
It is a very budget friendly site.
Good value - owner very helpful and nice
Advertised a full kitchen - there is one kitchen for all the units. Everything is there, but we didn't expect to have to share the kitchen. Rooms are very basic. Clean, but nothing special.
We are very satisfied with this modern hotel, big rooms and friendly owner. There are beach gears you can use freely although we didn't have time for that. Pity we had only one night there, if we have a chance to visit there again we'd love to stay longer. There are two big fridge in the nice kitchen. It's not like a hotel but home.
We didn't have enough information for tax in advance, it said 4% tax is not included but the rate was more than that.
Eric the owner is a brilliant, informative and very helpful host. We liked to stay here very much and I would highly recommend Halemalu to anybody.
Very nice, clean, spacious suite for myself and daughter and her husband, with 2 children. They loved the ping-pong table, and being above the hustle/bustle of Kona life! Picking fruit on the property was a plus, as were the nearby beaches! Eric was a very accommodating host, pointing out all of the amenities. May keep it in mind for a family reunion! :)
Very big rooms suites. Good host. Able to check-in later. Very comprehensive facilities, including laundry room.
Lots of room, a full kitchen, pick-your-own avocados, papayas, macadamias, ... Laundry facilities, friendly owner.
The serenity of the location, the distance away from other tourist housing and the location.
