Inn keeper was very friendly. The rooms very clean. Continental breakfast had fresh breads and pastries...very yummy!! Location was wonderful! You could sit on the front porch and watch the ocean and the ships sailing in the harbor. Parking was easy.
Location was great. Across the street from the Fisherman Statue. Continental breakfast was fresh and tasty.
The room was represented as a Suite, but was really just a futon at the foot of the King bed. The claw foot tub was sweet but not very practical. A microwave would have been nice.
Innkeeper, John Orlando clearly loves what he's doing and he does it very well indeed. Good location, within easy walking distance of town and park. Terrific views of the harbor.
Traffic noise was a minor drawback, but an acceptable trade-off for the location. Wallpaper in bedroom and bath could use a bit of re-sticking...electric kettle imparts an off-taste to the tea-water (have the same problem at home, so switched to stove top kettle). All very minor stuff and easily remedied.
We stayed at the Inn because we were in town for a wedding. Perfect location, close to the wedding venue at Hammond Castle. The next day we enjoyed the continental breakfast. There was so much to choose from and everything was delicious. John, the Inn keeper was a pleasure to speak to. The view from the Inn was spectacular and we were a 5 minute walk to the shops. We stayed in the Rockport Room and the bed was so comfortable!
Innkeeper John is everywhere - gracious, gregarious, helpful - and this in spite of dealing with an infected hand during our stay. Breakfasts are super - excellent coffee, great pastries and excellent fruit - and the overall mood of coziness is just right for the Cape Ann seashore.
We had a 3d floor room the first two nights - the stairs are steep and schlepping suitcases that distance is a chore. The AC - while unnecessary most of the time we stayed - is very noisy.
Manager was very helpful. Very pretty room.
The owner was very friendly and helpful. The service excellent and the location was perfect for our weekend stay. Thank you John!
Room was clean and comfortable. Owner was very nice. Able to walk to restaurants and shops. Beautiful view.
Road noise affected sleep.
This was a beautiful central location with wonderful views of the harbor. Great experience of a New England fishing harbor and the Artist Community that thrives there. Plus, a gracious host in the proprietor.
John is an excellent host, very friendly & personable. Within walking to downtown, great location! His Inn is like a home & reminded me of my childhood when I visited my Aunt & Uncle, I love that the house is two hundred years old & in such great shape. I would highly recommend staying here if going to MA. I will be back it was like visiting a friend.
Not a thing!
Not only was the staff very welcoming and helpful, and a delight to visit with each morning, but the inn was very charming, the rooms comfortable and a pleasure, and the location was perfect! The inn, beautifully landscaped with flower beds and a fountain, is directly across the street from the water -- a very beautiful view with a walking trail that leads around the harbor and through a park to a high point looking out over the water towards the ocean. Breathtaking. In my travels around the area over two days, it became clear that the Harborview Inn was the perfect place to stay. I am so glad I came upon it and decided to stay there over other inns I had looked at. I will definitely be returning next year.
Parking at first seemed a bit challenging, but staff was reassuring about availability of spaces, and this did turn out to be true. I was always able to find a space immediately in front of the inn, despite heavy traffic.
Location, staff attention, breakfast,
Third floor walk-up.
Location was good, breakfast room was beautiful!
Wallpaper was dark & plaid on ceiling was a bit too much. Other rooms looked lighter & more pleasant. Bathroom needed to be refreshed with paint job.
Love the staff and the location of this B & B. Can't wait to stay there on my next visit to Gloucester!!!
Host was very personable Garden was beautiful Lovely breakfast in an elegant setting Clean, comfortable
Steep staircase Weak wifi on third floor
price and location . . . went w/o car and had no issues
nothing it was perfect
excellent location, clean, comfortable. The owner very friendly
Location, garden, and helpful owner. Nice view and easy access.
Air conditioning, smallish room.
Very expensive and the breakfast was marginal. We were in a room off the main living area. The bathroom is not designed for elderly customers. The host was very friendly and the decor is beautiful.
the view, quaint room, wonderful sitting room, Mr. John was so helpful.
only 5 parking spaces for 6 rooms, but Mr. John was very helpful nevertheless and we were well accommodated.
John, The innkeeper was a friendly, knowledgeable and gracious host. I felt like I was in my grandmother's home ( the Inn is 200+ yrs old). We were in the Rockport Room and the bed was sooooo comfortable! The porch outside has a view of a sweet little rose and perennial garden with a koi pond…..and then you look across to the ocean. This is a perfect location right in downtown Gloucester.
The breakfast could have included some kind of fresh fruit and yogurt….and the chips in the paint in the bathroom of our room could have been touched up. But these are minor and I would definitely return.
I have never stayed at a B and B before and I lucked out by staying at Harborview. The propietor was gracious and friendly. The inn was very clean. You can walk to town and the view is spectacular.
We liked the location. Easy walk to cute shops and eateries excellent view of Harbor!
Very dated decor and bathrooms needed update.
The view, the location, and John, the owner were all terrific. Breakfast on the porch is a great way to start the day!
Not a complaint, but a caution- the place is across the street from the harbor, right in town. The street is busy until late, so there will be some noise.
The location was excellent.
The Inn is in ill repair including a dangerously unstable outside banister at front entry which is almost necessary to hang on to due to many plants that make the entry there very narrow. Owner explained how he was going to have it fixed but this was peak tourist time and it should have been done prior to that. The decor of our room was garish - that is the only word I can think of to describe it. John, the owner, had a party with his personal friends on eve of July 3 when all the independence day celebrations took place. Consequently I had to remind him that a parking place was part of my package (he told me when I left in the morning that my space may be taken when I got back due to his personal guests). Additionally the small shared front room and the small shared front porch were completely filled with non-paying guests when we returned to the Inn after our day of personal time away from the Inn. To his credit he did ensure I had a parking space due to our morning chat about that but seemed to think it was alright to fill all the shared space with his nonpaying personal guests. I have used a lot of bed and breakfasts and this is the FIRST time an owner told me after I was there that he was having a private party at the residence. I do not find this acceptable. If he had told me that when I booked I would have booked elsewhere.
