Score from 67 reviews Wonderful
Beautiful, immaculate old house with tons of New England charm. Right on the water, so the views and the walking opportunities can't be beat. Comfortable beds, large rooms. Exceeded expectations.
Breakfast selection was a little weak (hard boiled eggs, cereal, and cakes) but it was abundant and did the job. The innkeeper was perhaps more talkative and present at breakfast than would have been ideal (could hardly get a word in edgewise to my traveling companions!), but he was friendly and accommodating.
We really felt like we were stilling with friends. It was our 50th wedding an anniversary and we could not have stead in a better palace.
The authentic charm of the home Is accented by the lovely furnishings... a warm mood is present everywhere. The rooms are beautifully furnished and each different from the other. The innkeeper, John,is so pleasant and gracious as well as very knowledgeable about Gloucester and the Cape Ann area.. Location is perfect..lacing the harbor and centrally located.
The bathroom needs a renovation.
Everything about the Harborview Inn is perfect.Beautiful surroundings, so close to the water. The B&B itself is a gem, so nicely decorated and inviting. You feel like you're home! It's within walking distance to Gloucester center and a beautiful park. The owner, John, is so welcoming and directed us to wonderful restaurants and sights to see. Our very first B & B experience! We are already planning a return trip! Thanks John for a fabulous experience in Gloucester!
The location was perfect, the view of the ocean across the street was breathtaking. Our host was wonderful. So glad we stayed here.
Had to climb up three flights of stairs.
All was wonderful!! John makes you feel right at home. We stayed last year in October and again this October and hopefully will be back again next year.
Our host was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was an unexpected perk. Good variety and nice strong coffee. There is a sunny large dining-sitting room. The inn is directly across from the water and the promenade that runs all along. Wonderful place to sit out front of the inn,
Room and ensuite bathroom was a bit small. Lack of counterspace and tight fit for two people trying to get dressed at same time.
We very much enjoyed our visit. Our host, John was very helpful with his knowledge of all the sightseeing we wanted to do. It felt very much like home. The front porch was perfect for relaxing with an amazing view!
Location, clean room and bath, good breakfast
TV way too small....
Inn keeper was very friendly. The rooms very clean. Continental breakfast had fresh breads and pastries...very yummy!! Location was wonderful! You could sit on the front porch and watch the ocean and the ships sailing in the harbor. Parking was easy.
Location was great. Across the street from the Fisherman Statue. Continental breakfast was fresh and tasty.
The room was represented as a Suite, but was really just a futon at the foot of the King bed. The claw foot tub was sweet but not very practical. A microwave would have been nice.
Innkeeper, John Orlando clearly loves what he's doing and he does it very well indeed. Good location, within easy walking distance of town and park. Terrific views of the harbor.
Traffic noise was a minor drawback, but an acceptable trade-off for the location. Wallpaper in bedroom and bath could use a bit of re-sticking...electric kettle imparts an off-taste to the tea-water (have the same problem at home, so switched to stove top kettle). All very minor stuff and easily remedied.
We stayed at the Inn because we were in town for a wedding. Perfect location, close to the wedding venue at Hammond Castle. The next day we enjoyed the continental breakfast. There was so much to choose from and everything was delicious. John, the Inn keeper was a pleasure to speak to. The view from the Inn was spectacular and we were a 5 minute walk to the shops. We stayed in the Rockport Room and the bed was so comfortable!
- nicely located with marvelous view over Gloucester harbor, good access to beaches, Wingearsheek beach & good harbor beach are not far away, many good restaurants not far away
- insufficient breakfast, bad and impolite service when not served by the landlord himself - room not clean, very dusty - paper-thin walls - dangerous bathing tub, low water pressure - lots of narrow stairs - lots of noise from the street - prices are generally too high in August, not only in this B&B
The host is affable and always looking to help, very accommodating. The inn is exactly where it was described --right across from the Fisherman's Memorial harborwalk. We had a birdseye view of the Schooner Festival. Breakfast was lovely.
The less expensive rooms are smaller than they appear online. The larger rooms are very nice.
Innkeeper John is everywhere - gracious, gregarious, helpful - and this in spite of dealing with an infected hand during our stay. Breakfasts are super - excellent coffee, great pastries and excellent fruit - and the overall mood of coziness is just right for the Cape Ann seashore.
We had a 3d floor room the first two nights - the stairs are steep and schlepping suitcases that distance is a chore. The AC - while unnecessary most of the time we stayed - is very noisy.
Manager was very helpful. Very pretty room.
The owner was very friendly and helpful. The service excellent and the location was perfect for our weekend stay. Thank you John!
Room was clean and comfortable. Owner was very nice. Able to walk to restaurants and shops. Beautiful view.
Road noise affected sleep.
This was a beautiful central location with wonderful views of the harbor. Great experience of a New England fishing harbor and the Artist Community that thrives there. Plus, a gracious host in the proprietor.
John is an excellent host, very friendly & personable. Within walking to downtown, great location! His Inn is like a home & reminded me of my childhood when I visited my Aunt & Uncle, I love that the house is two hundred years old & in such great shape. I would highly recommend staying here if going to MA. I will be back it was like visiting a friend.
Not a thing!
Not only was the staff very welcoming and helpful, and a delight to visit with each morning, but the inn was very charming, the rooms comfortable and a pleasure, and the location was perfect! The inn, beautifully landscaped with flower beds and a fountain, is directly across the street from the water -- a very beautiful view with a walking trail that leads around the harbor and through a park to a high point looking out over the water towards the ocean. Breathtaking. In my travels around the area over two days, it became clear that the Harborview Inn was the perfect place to stay. I am so glad I came upon it and decided to stay there over other inns I had looked at. I will definitely be returning next year.
Parking at first seemed a bit challenging, but staff was reassuring about availability of spaces, and this did turn out to be true. I was always able to find a space immediately in front of the inn, despite heavy traffic.
Location, staff attention, breakfast,
Third floor walk-up.
Location was good, breakfast room was beautiful!
Wallpaper was dark & plaid on ceiling was a bit too much. Other rooms looked lighter & more pleasant. Bathroom needed to be refreshed with paint job.
