Marcus Garvey Park area has changed a great deal over the years . It is now quite multiracial .
WiFi did not work most of the time .
The outside of the building was nice and it was just a short walk to subway.
Room we were given was NOTHInG like rooms that were pictured on the web. Very poor quality and furnishings. Room #3. Shared bathroom with broken shower knob. Beds were terribly uncomfortable. There is NO staff available on site after midnight. No phone in lobby for emergencies. When I asked the staff on Sunday am for a wash rag they told me they didn't have any. We got locked out of our room (after midnight) and had to call the inns number to get someone to unlock it for us (all we got was a recording) - the lady that arrived to unlock it was very rude - and we thanked her and apologized for the inconvenience and all she could say was " you called the owner"
The staff was very helpful, friendly, and informative. The Harlem B&B was in a quiet, family oriented neighborhood with good access to local public transportation and restaurants.I was very fortunate to be staying in a room that was close to the WiFi router, and the signal was strong and stable. For the most part, it was a very pleasant place to stay.
My only qualm about my stay here was the little black bugs in the bathroom... Still, the Harlem B&B was much cleaner then the place I stayed my first time in NYC, which was over-run with ants.

We liked the girl that helped us get the wifi connected..owner was great as we had a broken arm injury to my friend.. He let us move out early..
Felt unsafe walking the area. We were hassled the first morning on 120th st by a guy trying to sell us dodgy bus tickets. He followed us onto a bus. Was not a great start. We moved to Sheraton in Brooklyn.
We chose it because we were here for the governor's ball music festival on Randall's island, so location was our main priority.
The WiFi was quite poor, and the room was a little untidy, but you get what you're paying for.
It's close to the subway and buses, it's inexpensive, it seemed pretty clean, they give you coffee and cheese sticks for breakfast, the room was air-conditioned, and the staff was nice.
My traveling partner saw a roach in our room, the beds were terribly uncomfortable, the sheets, towels and blankets were stuff they got from what Good Will wouldn't take, the room was an ugly color and the decoration was stupid, the curtain on the window looked dirty and stuff like electrical outlet covers, towel bars, shower water faucet were broken. Thank God we were so tired we fell asleep quickly because it wasn't the kind of place you'd want to sit around in. And what really escapes me is with a minor amount of money and effort, the place could be nice.
Location is near the residence of the family I am visiting. Very safe area to walk around even at night.
No rail on the stairs for this older lady so difficult to get up and down the front stairs leading into the building. Had to request a wash cloth and it was nearly thread bare. I take a first floor room and some nights the staff forgets there is a guest and sits outside my room talking very LOUDLY. Usually only until 10 PM but on occasion it has been past midnight.
It was close to where I needed to be. No TV was a plus. It was adequate.
A shared bathroom might be difficult for some, but I arose early.

Dirty bathrooms with bugs running on the walls. Breakfast available late: 8AM or even later (for tourist 8AM is the hour to be already in the city and not to start breakfast). WIFI unstable, problems with connection. Room very, very small, no window, terrible noisy air conditioning, noisy fridge - impossible to use them during the night, rip-off for that price. No acoustic isolation + creaky floor = very hard to sleep, ear plugs are must have if you want to survive. Not recommended. Look for something else for that price.

Location was ok, we felt safe.
We had difficulties to get into the Hostel upon arrival the front door was locked and there was no one. From time to time there was staff around but they did not seem to be very interested in a conversation with the guests. The room itself seemed to be clean but the bed was full of bedbugs and there were cockroaches in the room and in the bath!!! Although we arrived in time for the breakfast on two days there were no bagels and other food left anymore. It seems there is no refill planned. The muffins were laying sometimes for 1-2 days in the basket next to the door. We have to say that we are not very demanding with the places we stay at and knew from the ratings that we should not have expected too much but the experience we made during our stay (4 days) was horrible. Back home we are still fighting against the bedbugs...

I liked the location. Beautiful area in Harlem.
Upon arrival, the entrance door was locked and we were greeted by a note that read " be back in 15 mins". The attendant must have just left because we waited in the door way for 15 minutes catching the winter draft. We were happy when the attendant finally did arrive, only to be greeted with an attitude. She shot past us without saying a word as if we interrupted her while doing something more important. She went to the counter and asked how we were paying. I gave her my card and she said she would take us to our room and she would bring me my card later. I was very alarmed by this and I asked her to charge my card immediately and I waited for her to give it back. I've never checked into a place and had anyone keep possession of my card. Just awkward. Anyway, her attitude was worse as she was very short with us and aggressive. She unapologetically walked us to our room, opened the door and went back downstairs without a word. I was disgusted and wanted to leave but my husband was tired and didn't want to go back into the cold. The facility was ok at best. I would have been better off checking into Aloft but I wanted a more homely feel. Big mistake! Bottom line, this place isn't nice to begin with and an attendant with a bad attitude is the kicker. I could forgive the shabbiness and dis function of the place had I been treated like a welcomed guest. I will never go back or suggest that anyone waste their money there.
For around $250, two nights was a pretty good deal. I chose the garden room which came with its own bathroom (I refuse to share a bathroom with strangers). The bathroom was very nice and big for nyc. The room was big enough for 6-8 ppl. It was very spacious and I loved the kitchen, even though I only used the fridge and the microwave.
1. None of the tvs in the place worked. Apparently there is some on going issue with time warner. 2. There are no phones in the rooms (or least the room I stayed in, garden room). That's a safety issue. 3. There are no peep holes in the doors for you to see who is at the door before you open the door. Another safety issue 4. The smoke detector in my room was ripped from the ceiling and on top of the fridge. I am no sure why it wasn't installed. 5. The floors were dirty. I never walked barefoot around the place, but the dirt was very evident on my socks. 6. From my room, there was no way to control the heat. It was way too hot. I woke up sweating, both nights 7. It wasn't as quite as I would like it to do. People upstairs were very noisy each night. 8. The towels aNd bedding were sketchy. towels were very rough aNd old looking. One of the bedding had a stain on it.
This hotel offers muffins, bagles, yogurt, cheese, coffee, and tea not only in the morning but all day long if there's left. This is great because I can had great breakfasts when I stayed here. And I was surprised when I entered. There were microwave oven, sink, small refrigerator, some plates, electronic range, hair dryer and closet,, I could feel the consideration for the guest and they thought small details for the guests. Even the location is harlem the location is farily good because the subway station is 5~10 minutes for walking. And there is very very cheap market next to the subway station. You can buy many cheap fruits there. I really want to stay again.
I saw very very very small cockroaches in the bathroom but if they use some pestcide it could be solved. The surrounding of this hotel is a little quiet but beacuse the subway is near you can be safe. But entering the room not too late would be safer.

Beautiful cosy room and place. Great breakfast! We loved it!
I like the fact that is very affordable, the stuff were so helpful and polite, and the room was pretty decent, I like the fact that it was a mini kitchen if you like to cook a small dish, and stuff like that and the stuff went the extra mile to accommodate me with an extra bed, since I was traveling with 2 minors, since it was only for 2 guest. At no extra charge that was really nice of them.
The only thing I didn't like is that you have to share the bathrooms, they were very clean. Don't get me wrong but am use to having our own bathroom.
I don't think I really liked anything about it. The breakfast was OK but with a few choice (bread and some small muffins).
Staff was horrible, I felt the staff members were like guests, they didn't talked to us, they were not supportive. I lost 2 clothing items in my room, and staff said that they have taken the items by mistake to the laundry. Never saw them again.. Additionally if you forget the key of the building entrance, the staff barely is there to answer you (probably they will be sleeping or something). We ended up waiting up to 15m once for a staff member to open the door to us.
