The hotel was in a good location with main tourist attractions in close walking distance. Plenty of eating out options close by.
Hotel is old & tired. Things in our room didn't work properly.
The location was good
A little old and run down for the price
Location, close to the mall and museums Very nice staff, most helpful
Breakfast not included
Good location walking distance from the museums. Staff extremely helpful and restaurants for breakfast on site was great
Bathroom needs a makeover
excellent location. getting arround is very easy.
location - only 10 minutes to reach the Capitolium Approx 30 min to the central bus station ( central station)
Price Quality of facilities - everything was old Unfriendly stuff No breakfast
THe location of the hotel was good but we wouldn't go back.
There was only a soap tablet in the bathroom. No shower gel or other toiletries.no tea or coffee making facilities. The décor was poor and the woodwork had about 20 coats of paint.
The charm, it's unique, it's affordable, location is excellent
It was hard to regulate water temperature in shower.
Near all of the best places of Washington (governmental, historical, educational, commercial, recreational. ..etc.
No north direction on hotels' maps. Laung suffering from food smell. No laundry service by hotel. To make an international calls I have to communicate with front desk to prepare the phone of the room.
Location was brilliant. Good shower and towels.
Very tatty and dreary decor. Electrical leads hanging loose, main light in room didn't work. Sheets and blankets very old. Dirty windows and poorly fitting curtains. Loose floor tiles in the bathroom. Had to ask for a kettle etc to make hot drinks.
the location the staff was very informative and helpful. the room was small but it was all we needed for our short stay. I liked the appearance of the hotel walkway with the pictures of the Presidents and the info listed.
Underneath bed Filthy, curtains Filthy, Light sockets loose, Noisy AC/Heating , Poor Wi-Fi ,Coat rack NAILED to the wall Coming loose and un-useable, Wallpaper peeling, expected to see evidence of Rodents (None Found) .. Smallest room I have ever stayed in.
I guess this is one of the best spots in DC for a touristic visit without a car.
Not that I don't really like but the Hotel and most of the facilities are old by some decades. But this particular aspect adds a real flavor to the visit if you are into the history.
Only one pillow. Too hot in the room at night.
I loved the building, history & location of the Hotel. Also the staff was great.
Mattresses are dead. Some hotels have a deal where the beds are very high quality & could be purchased by the guest. It creates a hotel as mattress showroom & really increases the quality of bedding. Try speaking to Sleepy's or another retail supplier like them. It would drastically improve the room quality. One other thing, at 4:30 am the city trash truck was below my window (9th floor) & the squealing gringing clanking of the trash truck was unbelievable. I don't sleep lightly either. I think they had to empty all the restaurant trash from individual containers in the alley & it took at least thirty minutes. Not good.
Location is fantastic - close to Metro stations, monuments, museums, restaurants, etc. My students and I could easily explore the city on foot. Check in, check out, and parking were seamless. Proximity to affordable food was great (just a couple of blocks north and west). Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms were old and quirky, but clean and in working order. Windows that actually open! Beds were comfortable. Price was way lower than other hotels in the area and some rooms have 5 beds! Great money saver for my group of student journalists. No fitness room or shiny lobby to hang out in, but that's ok when you're there to explore the city.
Harriet's restaurant downstairs refused to let me come in for a cup of coffee at 7am on a Thursday morning, insisting they needed all of their tables for brunch buffet customers. Noting several empty tables, I just left. I got a much warmer reception at Peet's across the street. None of this is the hotel's fault, though. I really have no complaints at all about the hotel!
The location and staff
You had to run the hot water in the sink for 30 minutes before it got faily hot Gave heat only in the evening hours (8PM to midnight and then again in the morning otherwise the room was cold (It was 40 degrees in the morning the weekend I was there One desk chair and a 1900s 15 inch RCA TV I threw a TV like that out 10 years ago
Location to the Smithsonian etc and to shops, restaurants of Downtown DC. Quiet on the weekend
An old hotel that really needs a complete overall. Wires along the base of the walls, loose electrical fittings in the walls, cracks in the bathroom floor, two pillows in total. Staff are dealing well with an old place.
The location is perfect.
It was very warm in the room and turning down the heat did not change the temperature. This also resulted in a decreased quality of sleep.
the hotel is at the heart of DC, and everything is conveniently located. Mostly being close to Metro Center Metro, travelling around is so easy. Lots of food options within walking distance or within 1 metro ride away. Thoroughly pleased.
If you like character, value, and location, this hotel is you you! Although you're in walking distance of so much, it's also near Metro stops so you can navigate to any DC sight within minutes. On site restaurant was very convenient, good food & service, too. We'll go back, that's the best rating I can give anything!
This is not a modern Hilton with amenities; but offers a nostalgic look at how we all traveled before internet reviews. It was kinda fun to search out enough outlets to recharge all the phones and camera batteries we all travel with. If you like quaint, not modern, you'll soak in the atmosphere and enjoy every second.
Location of the is central for a first time visitor who gets excited with closeness to the white house.
Absence of Room service and meals are monotonous
Good and safe location, trolley and Metro close, staff friendly, helpful, places to eat nearby. Despite the hotel being 100 years old, carpets, bedding, rooms are clean and have nice towels, iron and hair dryer.
The bathroom sink was tiny and there is no place to put toilet articles.
Hotel is 100 years old with layers of paint. Charging your phone and camera means putting it on the floor. TV is many many years old. Restaurant has the worst food. Ate there only once. Raw vegetables in omelet. You see through the blankets, they are so thin.
