Score from 400 reviews Excellent
In the heart of downtown Washington, D.C., a short distance from monuments, museums and the White House, this historic hotel features luxurious accommodations, along with a first-class, full-service...
Score from 795 reviews Very good
Huge room for the money.
No on sight parking
The man at reception was friendly, welcoming and helpful.
HH is an old hotel that has very basic amenities, but is very clean and super convenient to the mall (only 3 blocks) If you are a hi-maintenance person or couple this hotel may not be for you. If you want great value, and save enough $$ to have a really nice dinner then stay at the Harrington.
The room is small, the bed confortable, the bathroom clean. If you don't expect too much but want to sleep well in the downtown center, this is the place.
It is very near by every important places like Smithsonian or The white house.
Wifi is very slow ...
Very helpful staff. Great location to all of the sights. Great parking deal compared to other hotels in same area.
Everything in hotel needs updated. Old and worn.
could hear pipes creak, someone on other floor peeing at night, street noise, drafty windows
The location is highly recommendatory.
Location, price and staff
worn carpeting. It is a 100 years old. This might be a turn off for some.
1.Staff always friendly, have worked there a long time, and knew exactly what to do in all situations. 2. Price was considerably cheaper than any other hotel in a 25 block radius. 3. Harrington is oldest hotel in DC, and thus right in the middle of all the monuments any visitor would want to see, plus numerous good and big-city-reasonably priced restaurants. 4. You can walk out the dor and to the Washington Monument in 5 minutes--no taxi needed.
1. No good overhead room-lights, although there were 3-4 good lamps. 2. Sometimes noise from outside got loud, although to be fair the City was resurfacing a street just 9 stories below me.
The hotel is in a great spot for food, major attractions such as ww2 memorial, white house etc. The hotel had a map that is what we used and it was excellent for navigating. For the money it can't be beat. Just bring your own pillow as the ones there are small. Overall it was worth the money we paid. We stayed 2 nights and would stay there again.
The historic pictures of the hotel in the corridor to the elevator...
No shampoo in the bathroom. First hotel I have visited in many years without it. Flying these days it has become essential to reduce fluids from the packing list...
Location is ideal. The Mall, Warner Theater, the Hamilton Live, Hard Rock Cafe, Ford's Theater, Macy's, DCMetro are all walking distance. Adjoining restaurants (Harriettes, Harrys saloon & grill, Ollie's Trolley are tasty & inexpensive). Staff is accommodating. Common meeting ground for most walks of life. Least expensive in the area. Gives discounts for repeated stays.
Keep in mind HH is an old relic. The furniture, the bedding, the decor, the fixtures, the plumbing are old. Only the necessary repairs are made. It was and is essentially a lower-budget transient establishment. Toiletries are basic- only soap, so you must bring all other things like shampoo. Don't actually have "dislikes." It's simply what Harrington is.
Excellent location. Extremely clean. Great service. Good comfortable beds.
Not enough plugs/outlets.
Loaction Convenient restaurant with good food Staff very pleasant and helpful Old building has a certain charm
location and breakfast spot
Room, tight quarters. No turn around room in the bathroom.
The location of the property was close to a lot of historical sites.
The restaurant next door which connects to the hotel. The staff was horrible. Food, horrible. Staff was on their phone or being rude. The hotel staff was ok.
Facility is really old
Walking distance to everything; excellent parking arangements
At the front desk people is very friendly.
One of the house keeping doen't pay attention a her work and the room was very bad (spanish speaker house keeping was very good), but one other (English color speaking), she doesn't love her job. Room and beds was very unclean with her.
Nice place, interesting historic display. good breakfast on site. Clean room. will stay again when going to the area.
No shampoo in room. had to buy it in the small shop in lobby
Ideal spot, restaurant/bar downstairs, good price, tiny but I didn't need any more than what I had
No shampoo in bathroom, no coffee maker in room
The hotel is located in a very central location, close to the monuments and major attractions. It is also very well connected to the transport. It worked well for me because it was close to all my business meetings
The hotel looks really old, and tired. A bit dusty, I would say. The rooms are really basic. The main light of my room wasn't working, and the door of the bathroom was not closing. I stayed only one night, but I wouldn't go back there.
Let's be honest, this is an old hotel with very little "creature comforts," but if you're in DC to do sightseeing, or traveling with family, this is the hotel at which to stay. The staff is friendly and very helpful, the rooms are clean and some - like the one we stayed in - are joined together to provide two rooms with TWO bathrooms! This is the third time that we've stayed here, and aside from a few things that caused a bit of discomfort this time around (see under didn't like), the hotel was a great value and a great place to stay.
Again, this is an old hotel with none of the amenities that you'd find at a much more expensive hotel (gym, valet, etc.), but when you're in DC and just want a place to lay your head at night, this is a good place. HOWEVER, bring earplugs. We ran into an issue this trip because the hotel has central heat - the only regulating you can do to it is to turn it from "hot" to "hotter." At one point during the first night I do believe the room was close to or over 100 degrees (F). At two in the morning it's not fun to wake up drenched in sweat and not able to breathe. The front desk told us - when we called down - that the heat is central and if we want to cool the room down we should open the window. Not a bad solution, except for the city street noise below, which then woke up our two year old. We ended up keeping one window open the whole time and closing the other (we had two adjoined rooms) and sleeping in the room with the closed window. Still needed to use earplugs though. Other than that... not a bad time.
For what I paid I can not complain. The price was great for the excellent location which puts you right off pennslyvania ave. Good for solo travel. Not romantic and not "fancy" by any means. There is a bar next door with a kitchen that connects to the hotel.
The hotel has been there 100 years (1914) so considering that fact its amazing. It has wifi, card swipe doors, and flat screen tvs in the rooms. However it's a historic hotel. Some things can not be helped.
