Loaction Convenient restaurant with good food Staff very pleasant and helpful Old building has a certain charm
location and breakfast spot
Room, tight quarters. No turn around room in the bathroom.
The location of the property was close to a lot of historical sites.
The restaurant next door which connects to the hotel. The staff was horrible. Food, horrible. Staff was on their phone or being rude. The hotel staff was ok.
Facility is really old
Walking distance to everything; excellent parking arangements
At the front desk people is very friendly.
One of the house keeping doen't pay attention a her work and the room was very bad (spanish speaker house keeping was very good), but one other (English color speaking), she doesn't love her job. Room and beds was very unclean with her.
Nice place, interesting historic display. good breakfast on site. Clean room. will stay again when going to the area.
No shampoo in room. had to buy it in the small shop in lobby
Ideal spot, restaurant/bar downstairs, good price, tiny but I didn't need any more than what I had
No shampoo in bathroom, no coffee maker in room
The hotel is located in a very central location, close to the monuments and major attractions. It is also very well connected to the transport. It worked well for me because it was close to all my business meetings
The hotel looks really old, and tired. A bit dusty, I would say. The rooms are really basic. The main light of my room wasn't working, and the door of the bathroom was not closing. I stayed only one night, but I wouldn't go back there.
Let's be honest, this is an old hotel with very little "creature comforts," but if you're in DC to do sightseeing, or traveling with family, this is the hotel at which to stay. The staff is friendly and very helpful, the rooms are clean and some - like the one we stayed in - are joined together to provide two rooms with TWO bathrooms! This is the third time that we've stayed here, and aside from a few things that caused a bit of discomfort this time around (see under didn't like), the hotel was a great value and a great place to stay.
Again, this is an old hotel with none of the amenities that you'd find at a much more expensive hotel (gym, valet, etc.), but when you're in DC and just want a place to lay your head at night, this is a good place. HOWEVER, bring earplugs. We ran into an issue this trip because the hotel has central heat - the only regulating you can do to it is to turn it from "hot" to "hotter." At one point during the first night I do believe the room was close to or over 100 degrees (F). At two in the morning it's not fun to wake up drenched in sweat and not able to breathe. The front desk told us - when we called down - that the heat is central and if we want to cool the room down we should open the window. Not a bad solution, except for the city street noise below, which then woke up our two year old. We ended up keeping one window open the whole time and closing the other (we had two adjoined rooms) and sleeping in the room with the closed window. Still needed to use earplugs though. Other than that... not a bad time.
For what I paid I can not complain. The price was great for the excellent location which puts you right off pennslyvania ave. Good for solo travel. Not romantic and not "fancy" by any means. There is a bar next door with a kitchen that connects to the hotel.
The hotel has been there 100 years (1914) so considering that fact its amazing. It has wifi, card swipe doors, and flat screen tvs in the rooms. However it's a historic hotel. Some things can not be helped.
Great location - a short hop from the Lincoln Memorial etc, and a hotel with history and character. Great value diner on the ground floor with friendly staff
Rooms are small and not very smart but great shower. Overall stay was good value given hotel location.
Can't beat the location of this hotel! We were walking distance to all of the museums and monuments and city attractions. If You are looking for a no-frills clean well priced hotel in the heart of the city, this is the place to go
Pretty small and in need of updates.
The bed was too sft
Rather shabby and run-down. In dire need of extensive refurbishment.
Facilities & room are aweful.
Most excellent situation right next to the Federal Triangle, which means the Mall and its museums, the Capitol and Union Station are all within walking distance, and Metro access one block away if needed.
The Hotel is the oldest in Washington and looks it, the last renovation on my floor seemed decades in the past. Being a prime location for school classes to stay, that is the general quality offered.
I like the location of the hotel
The room need to be update, the bed are old, and the smell in the hotel itself is bad.
The hotel was clean and comfortable, and good value for money. Staff were helpful and we felt welcome! We stayed with our three children aged between 1 and 12 and found it was a good base to explore the city. Awesome location for sightseeing!
WiFi was a bit slow at peak times (to be expected) and breakfast was a bit pricey. Also, there was leftover food in the small fridge in the room when we arrived which was a bit gross. Otherwise it was clean and comfortable and I would recommend it to others wanting a budget but good hotel to stay at!
The hotel was in a good location with main tourist attractions in close walking distance. Plenty of eating out options close by.
Hotel is old & tired. Things in our room didn't work properly.
The location was good
A little old and run down for the price
Location, close to the mall and museums Very nice staff, most helpful
Breakfast not included
Good location walking distance from the museums. Staff extremely helpful and restaurants for breakfast on site was great
Bathroom needs a makeover
