Herbert hotel is interestingly located in down town San Francisco next to a bart station, the cable car end station and of Union Square. The rooms are clean and comfortable. No possibility of breakfast.

It has a great location and worth the money. Just be aware that they charge 7 dollars extra per day for housekeeping and there is no breakfast included. The room was really small but clean and with a modern decoration. We were lucky to get a room not facing the street that is very very noisy 24 hours per day. Staff is not very nice.

It is terrible experience to stay at the hotel. The hotel staff service is terrible, it seems that we have owen them a lot of money while we stay there. We will never stay the hotel again.

Great location and friendly staff. Room was comfortable and tidy. It would have been nice to have a safe in the room as well as a microwave. We were initially given a street side room, which as soon as we got in it was noisy, they were happy to change us though so it was no problem. Would recommend requesting a room that is not street facing. We discovered on the last day that there was a lounge area with a coin operated laundry facility. This is not something we were told about and would have been nice to know earlier.

Location is very convenient for Union Square and Moscone Convention Center. No furniture in the room to put clothes in. No continental breakfast, contrary to what a previous traveler described. No restaurant on premises either, again contrary to a statement from a previous traveler. Internet connection very intermittent, would normally go off in the evening with nobody in the hotel capable of resetting the server.

Price and location were good. The elevator was broken and we were on the 5th floor. We were woken our first morning there to someone throwing up in the hallway! We reported it to front desk and it was never cleaned up during our entire stay!! There were no washcloths or handtowels in our room, nor was there any hot water in the shower! We took cold showers for two days! We were very disappointed!

This was the most misleading, deceiving, run down, creepy hotel (excuse me) dorm room I've ever seen. It looked nothing like the pictures. It was more like a $19.99 hooker motel. I cancelled my second night and left at 9am the next morning to wait at my new hotel ('The Opal' which I highly recommend). I couldn't bear to stay there any longer! Worst experience of my life! Enjoyed the location inside the city. Room itself was adequate and good furnishings and comfortable sofa. During our weekend trip the hotel elevator was out of service and our room was on the sixth floor, very inconvenient, especially after walking the city during the day. The room was cold even with the furnace completely on. The cable would go in and out. There was no wireless inside our room, we had to connect to the wall. Since the hotel is located on Powell st, it was noisy at all times, but I guess this came with the territory.

The bed was comfy in one of the renovated rooms. I liked the hardwood floors. I thought the location was good The elevator was out so the 7 flights to our room was taxing. One soda machine, only on second floor. No ice machine. Our TV was broken so it was replaced the next morning. The inconvenience of the elevator not working definitely affected the graveyard shift front desk agent, when we inquired about our broken TV. In all we were pleased with the location and the staff discounted the room for our inconvenience for the elevator. I give it a fair rating

The location was fantastic as its right in the middle of everything. Union Square is only a 3 minute walk away and there are restaurants and shops right out the entrance of the hotel. It is also very near the BART station but an airport shuttle is just as convenient for only $17 ( to/fro SFO airport). The junior suite was spacious and the beds were pretty comfortable. Tthe room was kept relatively clean. This would be a good hotel if you just need a decent place to sleep in a great location at a good price. The elevator was not working for the first 2 days of my 3 day stay. This meant I had to carry my 60 pound luggage up 5 storeys of narrow stairs which was not the best welcome to the hotel. They did offer a $30 discount for the days the elevator wasn't working. There were 2 russian ladies that were at reception. One was very cold and expressionless while the other was more friendly and managed more smiles. Wifi doesn't work on the 5th floor but cable internet worked fine. The walls are very thin so you can hear your neighbour use the tap or cough. There are communal toilets so you may want to request for a room that is not near the toilets. The table and shelf in the room are very run down and on the day I checked out, the entire first floor was deafened by the sounds of high decibel drilling. This was inflicted on the receptionist who sat 2 metres away from the constant super loud renovation.I could not stay and wait at the reception for my shuttle for more than a few minutes as the drilling was too deafening.

I wasn't expecting much for the price (especially such a low price for New Years Eve!) and was pleasantly suprised at how awesome my room was. It was clean, large, and looked like it had just been renovated. Other than the noise all night long due to the location, it was a great hotel and I would definitly go back.

The bed was extremely comfortable It reminded me of a couple hostels I stayed at in Europe. Old building with renovations being done. Great spot for shopping, but they don't offer parking and we had to keep our car overnight in a garage that charged us over 50 dollars due to the holiday.

It was very reasonably priced for its location- for good reasons. The hotel and service were sub par but the location was could not have been any better. STAY for the LOCATION... if you are on a budget. The hallways smelled funny on the first day.

Awesome location, only a 3 minute walk from the bart. I was allocated to a connecting room so there was a door in between my room and another person's room. He came back late at night and started chatting really loudly to a friend with the tv on and it was quite impossible to sleep. I wasn't sure if that has anything to do with the fact that it was a connecting room or that the walls were really thin - but it wasn't that pleasant. My floor was quite empty so I thought they should give me another room away from other visitors. My room faced powell street too, and it was noisy at night, but can't really blame for that.

Staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is indeed good value for money in an excellent downtown location. However, pick-up and drop-off is a problem. I would certainly recommend friends to stay in this hotel when visiting San Francisco.
