Good,
Score from 647 reviews
“ I liked everything about the Herbert. The people, the room, the decor, and especially the cleanliness of the room. this is based on staying in the a queen room with a private bath. Unfortunately they have only a limited number of rooms with the private bath. Otherwise, there is a toilet and shower at the end of the hall for everyone else. ”

It was little more than I needed. I didn't pay for extra frills I didn't need. The room I was in shared a bathroom with the neighboring room, but my door to the shared bathroom was locked so I had to use the bathroom down the hall. I had a sink and mirror in my room, but the shower and toilet were in two different rooms down the hall.

the hotel and the room was clean and adequate some rooms did not come with a bathroom or shower and therefore it made it a little uncomfortable.for a little more money it was worth it to get a room with a bathroom with it. there was no air conditioning a but it didn't seem to really need it. it was half the cost of some of the other hotels so it was worth it if you need to save money. The staff was very friendly.I would stay there again.

The location was great. Our room was a good size for 4 adults. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. No safe in the rooms. One key for 4 people is ridiculous. Window lock in room 616/618 was broken so it didn't lock.

The Herbert was very minimalistic but had the essential modcons. It was very clean and the location was perfect. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only complaint was that from our room(702)a lot of noise and voices could be heard to an adjoining room..apart from that,we would recommend the Herbert to anyone looking for a value for money Hotel in central San Francisco.Thank you.

Immediately when I entered the room, it smelled very strongly like chemicals (wet paint) and the staff person refused to give me another room when I complained. She did care that I was pregnant and uncomfortable. The next day we switched room, however even though we had the window open, the night my husband and I spent in the room with the bad smell was the worse night we have ever spent in a hotel. Although I stayed at the hotel for 3 days and I left a compliant with a manger about this, I never heard back.

The location was very convenient to the conference hotels. This is a big plus, because the large nearby hotels are much more expensive. There are many places to eat nearby from more expensive restaurants and cafes to two Subway, and three Starbucks. The internet worked well. There is a corner grocery not far away. The walls and halls on floors 2 and 7 were freshly painted white. I am not sure whether the rest of the floors have been finished because we went down to the basement with a workman and saw lots of tools, paint buckets, etc. Apparently, not all renovation has been completed. The lobby area, where the check-in is, had no seating. When I asked, the counter person said there were two couches on order. Also, the fact that there was absolutely no drawer or shelf space in the room for one's clothes, and no desk or equivalent where one could put one's computer, was a drawback.

Great location near the convention center and Grant square. Got alot for the cost. Not necessarily a high end hotel but very clean and the staff were very kind helpful and courteous. Beds were very comfortable. Definitely would stay there again. If you want a high end hotel then this one is not for you.

The hotel was centrally located in Union Square, with good value compared to nearby offerings. The room was very clean. There was no luggage rack or bench to put a suitcase on. We were digging through our suitcases on the floor or hoisting them onto the bed whenever we needed anything.

Loved the simple and classy loft-style design of the hotel. Junior suite with private bathroom was comfortable and clean. Location was central and convenient. Staff were polite, knowledgeable and helpful. Booking.com website stated clearly that free public parking was available for this hotel, but there was not. The only parking option was the multistorey at Ellis and O'Farrell which cost $51 per day. Staff at the hotel suggested two alternative multistorey lots but they were the same price. This substantially increased the overall cost of staying at the Herbert Hotel, and had I known this, I'd have looked to stay elsewhere. This additional daily charge drastically reduced the value for money of the Herbert Hotel. The wifi was often unreliable. The bath was rather stained, which unfortunately made it look dirty even though it was clean.

I stayed at a hotel in Chicago the night before I stayed at the Herbert. I payed roughly the same price for the two and when I stayed in Chicago I had a suite with an office and separate bedroom and huge bathroom. When I stayed at the Herbert I had a tiny room with a bathroom in the hallway. The door separating my room from another was made of paper and I could hear every word they said. I was awakened several times by the sound of a street trolley's bells. The Herbert Hotel is the noisiest rip off I have ever given money to and I will never stay there again.

The room (Queen Bed) we had on the fourth floor had recently been renovated and was lovely, and had double glazing on the front roadside windows.Couldn't be more central for shoppers. Discount on our charges for disruptions.Breakfast / lunch / dinners only 2-3 doors away The entrance area was being renovated and the next door building was being worked on. (Early morning disruptions)
