Staff was very friendly and helpful
No airconditioning, no lobby!
Location was excellent.
Hotel rooms could use a little more storage, shelves, wall hooks
Condivision of the batroom
Clean, Great Location (Cable Car outside front door), in-house facilities on second floor they do not advertise. Right next door to great new Walgreens food store with healthy breakfast and lunch options.
Noise level from Powell Street starts at 11PM and goes fro a couple of hours. During heat wave (90s) we had windows open to sleep, but noise was bad. Beware extreme danger of children falling from open windows on high floors in rooms and corridors. Nothing to stop a child falling out.
It is 2014....every room should have a bathroom and people need to be told about that ahead of time!!!!! I do not share bathrooms and showers with strangers....especially when I pay $300!!!! Not okay...the owner needs to figure this out!!!!
Clean and convenient
Shower head did not work
The rooms were clean and comfortable. While somewhat spartan in appearance (no dresser) the rooms were adequately furnished. The beds were comfortable and clean and somewhat plush. The bathroom was clean. The WiFi was strong enough to be usable for most work activity. The location on Powell was ideal for what we were doing. It was close enough to the Moscone Center to easily walk to. It was close to transportation. It was in the middle of many food choices and an easy walk to Union Square and China Town. I did walk to North Beach, but you would probably want a taxi at night. The price for a suite was relatively cheap.
I slept with the windows open, so the street noise was noticeable and did wake me up occasionally. There was no channel guide, nor a paper list of channels, available for the TV. It was hard to find specific content. The front desk was not familiar with the TV channels. A TV in one room only had a limited remote. One could not directly go to a specific channel, and going from one channel to the next with the up and down buttons was painfully slow.
Short walk from Bart and trams, very central
I liked that is was by everything. If you are a solo traveler the size of the room are cool. It was my first time staying in a optional dorm style room. It saved me money. The bathroom was at the end of the hall and there was never competition for it. The facilities were clean.
I didn't like the lounge on the second floor because it was not clean. It didn't matter because I didn't have to use it long.
Comfortable accommodation Great location Secure 24 Hour access
A little noisy between rooms & water pipes but this could be because of the age of the building
Retro modern look of hotel interior. Convenience to BART station and cable car. Friendly staff.
Only complaint - there was a cigarette butt on the stair landing, and it was there for 5 days. I finally let them know at the front desk when I was checking out. Very clean rooms, but nobody cleans the corridors and stairs.
Location is great, close to BART and Union Square. Staff friendly, rooms small but renovated nicely
Shower/Toilet in the hall is ok for 1-2days but not for longer stay
Love the location, clean rooms, accommodating staff!
price, location, the Herbert Hotel was perfect for getting me to the starting line of the Nike Women's Half Marathon without having to walk a great distance. I felt safe there (lobby doors automatically lock after 7pm), staff was friendly and was always greeted with a hello or have a good day. Other guests were friendly also. Everytime my friend and I were in the elevator we got in a conversation if we were sharing the ride. I would definitely stay here again!
The mattress I slept on was a little too worn in but I still got a good night's sleep! Wifi was a little spotty when I was connected to it on my phone, but worked perfectly on my laptop.
Rooms were cute but mostly it was the staff. Your front desk staff is very accommodating and super helpful. Rooms were very clean.
Music too late into the night from surrounding area hotel or bar. Not the hotels fault because they are centrally located..I'm just old and crabby :)
Limited facilities in hotel and lack of comfort in the room. No bedside table, insufficient seating.
This hotel are not honest at all. I booked one room for 4 days since Thursday at about 250$/night. But I failed to check in on time because of intinerary changing. A first night fee need to be charged according to the website agreement. But they charged me at a much higher fee of 328$. I called them for several times, and the staff all confirmed that the penalty will be the first night actual fee. But according to the Booking. com, the actual first night fee was just 129$. Without any informing me, they just charge another fee of 282.15$. I was so confused and have to freeze my credit card to avoid their further charging. After several calls and negotiation, the first charge of 328$ was made sure will not to be billed anymore. But it's sad that their "first night fee penalty" seems like whatever they want to bill instead an honest actual fee at all. So be careful with this hotel.
Location is fantastic. Rooms were clean. Reasonably priced for downtown. I felt safe and comfortable. I would return again but invest in the private bathroom. The Bangkok Thai restaurant across the street is very good and cheap!
The first night @midnight, my overhead room light (which was connected to a running ceiling fan) came on suddenly. This happened several times and I called the front desk person who came up promptly; however, he was unable to solve the problem either. We solved the problem by turning off the light and ceiling fan (which was hot since it was a heat wave). But, they rectified the situation the next morning by moving me to a new room (with a full private bathroom) which was greatly appreciated. I enjoyed the rest of my stay. Fyi, the room I had on the first night (where I shared bathroom/shower with 4 other rooms) had no hooks to hang bath towels or clothes. This was frustrating as I was travelling on business and wanted to keep clothes wrinkle-free. Hooks would be a great investment in the rooms, bathroom and shower to keep things tidy and off the floor.
Everything was perfect one of my friends was real iffy about staying here I was scared to open our door and we were blown away cause it was a great room and not expecting it there were 3 travellers and space in room was perfect and with a fridge was a bonus very happy will recommend
Location is key. Very close to where i needed to be and at night all the buzz was around. Spacious room.
I missed a desk in the room. Also closet is very small. There was little oxygen in the room and i could not really open the windows. It is also noisy at night when your room is facing powell.
-The soap and shampoo dispensers -Sink in the rooms
-Low toilet water flow -Some rooms very small -
Hotel's location near public transport and shops
Receptionist didn't answer calls from our room. No table or desk.
I had a deluxe room which means a private bathroom. Bed was super comfy and it was surprisingly quiet at night, I didn't hear anything. No closet, but useful rack, hooks and hangers. No desk for a businessperson but they don't advertise that so it was fine. Bare basics in the room but clean, comfortable, and friendly. There is so much in the neighborhood you don't need much in the room.
A small refrigerator would be amazing but fine without it. No complaints.
