Although in a perfect central location the room was quiet (for a big city) and the hotel had plenty of character and a nice welcoming atmosphere. Staff were pleasant and the wifi worked!
Minimal room extras.
The location near the BART was great, and it was what we needed for the price.
Slow elevator, the first two floors are international student housing/homeless shelter, and not clean. If you avoid those floors you'll never know, but I went to use the lobby bathroom there and was not pleased. You would never know it from the trendy looking lobby. No air conditioning, and no desk. We had to sleep with the window open and it was very noisy.
Staff were great, very friendly and helpful. I had a 'superior' room to have a private bathroom. Comfy bed and despite being on a busy road the windows blocked out almost all noise. Stylish design throughout property, sister cafe round the corner perfect for breakfast and serves great coffee.
In other cities this hotel would be expensive but this is down to San Fransisco rates, it's a pricey city and I stayed at a peak time of year. There was no minibar, a mini-fridge would be enough to keep a bottle of water cool.
Loved the size of the room. It was clean had a comfortable bed, nice bathroom in my room. Very cool staff. The location was awesome. Plenty of restaurants, bars, clubs, and shopping. Also, plenty of transportation options too!
The music at the middle of the night was really disturbing. Very hard to sleep during it from 11 pm -3 am in the morning and I was there Wednesday - Friday morning.
Location was fabulous and staff were wonderful.
Sirens at night were a bit disturbing but we were so tired we slept well anyway.
Loft style bare brick rooms give a perfect sense of urban Calofornia dwelling. Perfect for a downtown short stay in central San Fran!
THE SHARED BATHROOM WAS AWESOME!
The Herbert was convenient and clean, it had WiFi that actually worked and a kettle for making tea. We did hear some bad kareoke from the pub on the other side and some construction noise next door, but other than that we really enjoyed staying at the Herbert and recommend it highly.
Its a bit noisy but it's in the heart of a busy area so you'll have to expect that.
great location for the all activities , walking, tours, cablecars, also long term car parking close by. reasonble rates too.
In down town
Beds comfortable and bright interior. Open windows
No desk or dresser Broken light fixure on bed No coffee in lobby
The staff is wonderful. Gabby is such a sweetheart and really made my stay there awesome. The room was adorable and clean. A++++
Very small rooms, the mattress was very worn out, restroom and shower too small to accommodate the guests and need to be updated, staff indifferent. Elena
Friendly and helpful staff. The place was immaculately clean. The room was big with a full set of drawers. No problem with access to shared bathroom.
Thought it was a bit expensive given shared bathroom but the location is excellent.
Location - but it means you have to step over homeless people who congregate outside.
Like a cheap and nasty hostel - dirty room, no fridge, no mini bar, cheap and nasty decor. Staff were inexperienced and disinterested. Noisy and hot - no air con. I paid extra for a city view - my view was of the back the Uniqlo store and a car park. Appalling. You can't have guests in the hotel after 10pm! This is a cheap low-end hostel trying to claim it is a boutique hotel. Most expensive room I stayed in the US - there are much better places to stay in San Fran. AVOID AVOID AVOID!
Vintage style hotel
I was double charged and my integrity was questioned even after I gave them proof of the double charge. I highly recommend another hotel.
position, cleanliness, helpful staff and very comfortable. Light and bright and well worth the rate charged. Would thoroughly recommend to people.
Bedrooms were very good, clean and comfy.
There is only one shower and one toilet for bedrooms without bathroom.
Location, location, location
Price was very high for what you get, was on business in SF so it was on the company, however if I had paid 320USD/ night myself I would have been very disappointed
Location at union square
Great location. Really clean and spacious room/bathroom. Nice modern decor. Had a communal lounge/kitchen area but didn't use this. Good laundry facilities.
Over priced. No parking at all. We carried our luggage 3 blocks and had to pay am additional $40.00 for over night parking. It was very noisy as the bar below us blasted music all night. It was a complete nightmare and we will never go back.
Acess to China Town and transport to all other areas. Very comfortable bed and crisp white bed linen and towels.
Noisy at night.
