My room was great. No carpet and all white bedding made it easy to see it was very clean. Double windows if I wanted to shut out street noise. Close to so many transportation options and very easy to get to.
Simple requests to have shower gel replaced and telephone fixed were completely ignored. Yes the hotel is old but that is no excuse for bad service. And room was not as pictured on their website.
Room was the way smaller than it was advertised on the website (rather 140 sq.feet vs 250).
This hotel is all you can hope for when preferring to stay in the city center
there is nothing in the room, not even one piece of furniture apart from bed and ikea mini table, it is quite annoying if you're staing there longer than one night; bathroom is microscopic, San Francisco is very expensive so they can ask this kind of money for that kind of room..
The location - close to attractions and amenities. If you have a young one, the Childrens creativity museum is not to be missed!
The bathroom toilet seat cover is quite-worn out in the ensuite room we were in
I liked The Herbert. It has a nice 'rustic-renovated' feel (the hotel is very old) and the location is great, right near Union Square, surrounded by good shopping and eating, and very central, so easy to get to all of San-Fran's many attractions (and the train to the airport is about 200m away). The room itself was nice, with a good bed and the bathroom was clean etc. Overall I would recommend this hotel to all travelers
A few other reviewers have noted a few blocks west the Tenderloin district is dodgy - they are right, but there are cops everywhere so I didn't find it unsafe (my concerns about American mental-health care and welfare policy - or the lack thereof - is another story...). The only improvement I could suggest is the installation of a small fridge.
Great location with a deluxe Walgreens next door that is a mini-supermarket. You are two blocks from the cable car route! Rooms are clean and comfortable. I have stayed her twice now and both stays were great! Wifi is great with fast connection.
- good location - clean bedding
- water pipe noises until midnight - no desk for work - no business center - no keycard lock
Make sure you book a room with toilet
Great location for center of town, shopping etc. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Bed was comfortable. Good value for money
Bed is comfortable, everything is clean. Staff is very gentle.
The room is noisy due to poor acoustic isolation with the above floor and with the common shower room adjacent to my room.
over $200 but offered no parking and no morning coffee. all that is extra.. continental breakfast would have been nice. oh yeah and no AC. the heat was still on... no way to adjust it. ceiling fans did power up nice. the hotel is close to everything in SF
very very good location
kind of expensive
Location and cleanliness
No bathroom I'm "our" room And room was tny
Noice from the street was terrible. As the hotel is neighboring the cable car route, big big noice lasted from early morning to late night.
Central location to most of San Francisco.
Front desk personnel had little personality and weren't very inviting. Room has no furniture, only has bare necessities.
No secure place to store luggage
Location, room size, service.
Noise at weekend. Bath looks not new.
Bed was comfortable, location was very central to everything, staff were pleasant and helpful.
Very noisy all hours of the day and night, homeless people outside hassling us for money, radiator was permanently on and leaking, safe was locked (although unlocked by maintenance).
location! clean and comfy private queen room, good wifi, had a small refrigerator
could include a breakfast for the price paid
Fantastic central location Lovely staff
Rickety old elevator Lights and fan faulty Not suitable for needs when staying for business purposes as no access to computers, fax or printer.
location is great, close to the cable car station and union square
bed is kinda small and no carpet on the floor.
Location (the hotel is 3 min from Union Sqaure on the main street), clean rooms. We had no issues with noise but we stayed at the 5th floor.
a little bit of rust in the bathroom. Old WC.
Excellent location, lots of shops & transport options at your fingertips. The price was right though so it was suitable for a few nights.
Room was small but had (almost) everything. Real shame there was no Fridge or microwave. No laundry facilities either and there were some signs of the hotels age (crack in toilet bowl, chipped paint on window).
