Low prices and good facilities really suit the budget traveller. Proximity to subway line 1 helps make the most of your stay and organised activities are a nice bonus too - if you've no plans there's always something to do!
Not much not to like - WiFi a little patchy but still OK. Usual features of large dorm accommodation like late arrivals waking you up but that's not the hostel's fault!
As hostels go, this is up there with the best I've stayed at in the Western world. All modern and clean facilities (lots of shared bathrooms, big communal kitchen, TV area, lots of places to chill out) with free events hosted by members of staff or volunteers at the hostel. I won't consider a hotel the next time I'm in NYC because this offers perfect value for money.
The US is expensive, NYC more so than other places. As a backpacker, the price of accommodation is on the high side but unless you want to stay outside Manhattan this is one of the lowest prices you will pay and you do get your moneys-worth
Great locations, very clean and friendly staff
-bed was somewhat uncomfortable
Great value for money in New York City. This hostel is clean, safe, friendly, and one of the best I've stayed in. Located a few blocks from Central Park, and one block form the subway, giving access to all New York has to offer. Great onsite café serving all sorts of light meals, and snacks. Ample clean bathroom facilities, and use of a great sized kitchen, with ample utensils. It's a credit to those running, working, and volunteering.
it was the first time I slept in a hostel, but I'm sure it won't be the last time! IF i ever go back to NYC, this hostel is where I'm staying for sure! It was amazing. Only the WiFi died the last day and couldn't get online in the room. But everything else was just amazing. I'll prefer this hostel before any other hotel I stayed in! :)
I liked everything.
the staff were very helpful
There should be a process in place in those instances when complaints for theft are brought to the attention of the management
Location, cosy cafe, cleaness, staff
It was very noisy on the floor above
It was easy to check in and check out. The women's restroom was clean and spacious - each shower has a private changing area with plenty of elbow room so you don't have to walk around the place in a towel. I stayed in a mixed gender dorm room which was very spacious and there was plenty of room to maneuver between other patrons. Each bed has a lamp that doesn't overpower the room. The lockers were huge and held both of my travel duffels. The location was prime! Broadway was one block west of the hostel and so was the subway-both about a 5 minute walk. Central Park is right behind the hostel. There are plenty of awesome mom & pop shops and restaurants surrounding the hostel. Overall, this was such a good experience-great place and cheap price. I will definitely stay here again.
The elevator stops on every floor; it is so old that you have to push the button a million times. But the funny thing is that everyone sparked a ton of conversation over the damn thing and socialized plenty. So the elevator could be considered a great icebreaker.
Especially the cost is really good. Moreover, this hostel has clean room, kind customer, good atmosphere, etc.. I wanna recommend to my friends!
I needed room shoes.
Awesome Staff ... walking distance to Whole Foods Market 97/98th & Columbus... [ like 6 blocks away ] :-D Clean full guest kitchen
Lights out policy, didn't follow them to well myself, its a chance of who is bunking in the same room, you may get a smoker, whom when resting on his lungs needs to cough every minute. or someone who snores.
*staff is young and helpful, 24/7 *awesome location: 2 blocks from Central park, one block from Broadway. 2 subway stations minutes away *the showers have a lockable door and a curtain *showergel & hairdryer are provided *breakfast and food is yummy and not expensive *many activities from and with the hostel are provided- even as a solo traveler you're never forced to be lonly ;) *jerry's grand tour was the best real life New York experience you can get in a hostel (for freaming 10$!!)
The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and very helpful. The hstel was close to subway. Good priced Restaurant for New York. One of the best hostels i have stayed in, but for price would have been best.
Would have given it top ratings all around, if it was not for the price. I have traveled all over the world and this is by far the most expensive hostel I have stayed in.
Had a great time here, night events were fun
Clean; sound insulation beyond my expectation; heater works well after maintenance.
The filling material of mattress sounds weird. It would make a loud noise when someone sleeping turn over. And the space between upper and lower bed is small. The noise kept rustling over my head all night. I can't sleep.
location is not cental but close to subway
when i was returning, i asked staff to call me taxi. They called one of their friends i guess, so random car without license showed up. he ended up taking 75 dollars from me. when i asked at the airport they said it should be 55 dollars maximum !!! Be careful...
Facilities - Room, bathroom, kitchen, theatre room, computer centre, restaurant Free Wi-fi Access - literally 1 min walk to the subway Staff was excellent Cleanliness Orderly
Nothing really, I was so pleasantly suprised
I liked everything! It's a great place to meet people from around the world and make friends. The food was really good. You can reach any attraction in minutes by taking the subway. I absolutely recommend this hostel to those who want to save on accommodation and meet new people.
very clean. next to a subway station but you need some time to get into the city.
Bathroom was very clean and not crowded.
Roommates were messy and not exactly interesting. Apparently they just came to NYC to shop. Boring!
Employers are professionnal
Everyone seemed friendly. Staff were happy to help with directions and other needs! I stayed in the 12 bed female dorm and it was fine! There's kitchen facilities which are so helpful! Overall my stay was great, 2 nights trouble free
The showers were sometimes dirty with hair in the plug or on the walls
Price of food at the food bar.
