Hostelling International - Seattle at the American Hotel

Hostel was very well organized to familiarize travelers with a wide range of activities in the Seattle area. Breakfasts were nice and consistent, accommodations roomy and everything quite clean.

One of my roommates snored one night, and the WiFi was somewhat inconsistent, but aside from that there was not much to dislike.

The location was good for all ground transportation

1. The room key failed everyday and had to be recoded. 2. The internet was slow to not available. Would go down every five to ten minutes making it impossible to use. This was WiFi. 3.No room amenities, such as table, chair.

The wi-fi system there sucks!

I like the convenience to the train and airport. Also close to downtown.

Everyone was nice. Everything was comfortable.

The staff were pleasant and very helpful. The hotel was so clean. This was my first time staying at a hostel and I have decided to do more travelling and staying and Hostelling International hostels.

The fact that you have to share the room and bathroom with other people that you don't even know.

The rooms were very clean. Free breakfast and coffee and tea all day were excellent. Loved the various rooms to work in, library, tv room, lounge.

The bed was rather uncomfortable as the mattresses are thin and resting directly on the springs. Could feel metal crossbar. A piece of plywood between the mattress and the springs would help immensely.

Everything is at a walkable distance. The rooms and shared bathrooms were clean. Easy public transportation to and from downtown, the Ferry terminal and airport.

The location is nice by day, but by night I wouldn't like to walk the streets on my own.

The price is cheaper compared to other hotel in Seattle, however, find a few friend to have a private room because the room is quite small, so if you have a big luggage, that will be inconvenient when you share the room with a stranger. Storage is available for $3. There are breakfast provided everyday but just some bread and coffee.

The location locate just at the King Station where is quite convenient but at International District, the place is quite unsafe because of there are many homeless and quite a poor area. The toilet is located outside of the room. It is still ok if you are not staying more night.

Perfect location, room very basic but clean restrooms and shower facilities.

It was affordable and comfortable. It felt like staying in a giant home full of interesting people.

Beds were a little uncomfortable.

I liked how simple the setup was and the cleanliness of the facility.

I wish the breakfast could be a little more substantial. Options such as yogurt, breakfast cereal, or muffins would be a welcome addition to the continental breakfast. Bacon and eggs would be even better...

Friendly staff

No overnight parking if there's a sporting event on, really no overnight parking! I spent two hours trying to find 24 hour pay parking within a mile or two of the Hostel and there's nothing to be found. The lot across the street usually gives hostellers a special deal ($24 a day) but that gets suspended when there's a sporting event on and the price goes to $30 until eleven and then you have to move or be towed. The hostel is located in a very rough part of town in a very old run down building. Over the years I've stayed at many hostels and really enjoyed them but I can't recommend this one.

The staff at reception is very nice and helpful. I appreciate their commitment to the energy efficiency. There is a huge common kitchen / dining room and possibility to store your food at refrigerator.

The breakfast might be more diverse.

All the facilities, kitchen, TV room, dorm, baths, etc. EXCELLENT location. Recommended!!

At minimum it was clean.

Let's be honest, this rating of 7.7 is completely over rated. The location : it is really noisy and close to the central station. Even asking to the staff if it was safe to go out in the evening with my children and they said it was not really safe. There were a lot of homeless people in the area and it was really gloomy The hotel : beeing a youth-hostel does not mean the hotel shall be crapy. I have been in a lot of youth hostel that were really lovely places. The hotel is gloomy, smelly, noisy. The staff : The young boy at the reception was not really helping out and did improve the average rating. Breakfast : strict minimum, sufficient for back packers, not much

My towel had mascara stains on them. Bed sheets weren't the cleanest.

The hotel was in walking distance of pretty much everything in downtown Seattle, and the price was excellent. Thank you for being there.
