There was a large group of high school students during my stay, and a young infant in the room next door, so it was quite loud. Not really your typical backpacker atmosphere

location, not convenient for people relied on public transportation -- no light at each bed -- too soft bed
part of historic buildings, nice view

Mattress was terrible, bathrooms was meh to bad.

-The beds were creaking really badly every time I or somebody else in the dormitory moved. They were also kind of shaky. - First night the shower turned suddenly cold and I couldn't get any more warm water. I was kind of worried since when taking a shower. It would have been nice if the shower rooms had had a chair or something you could place your stuff on while showering.
- The location is really great. It was easy find and the really central location was really nice for touristing! -The staff was super friendly. -The breakfast was really good. -The lockers were rather big (but you need your own lock).

Throngs of ten years old running amuck. Noisey rude and staff did little to alleviate the problem. If I didn't have an international flight out at 430am. I would have changed hostels
Beautiful spacious place.

the bed was too soft
very good scenery

Not much nightlife. Not much opportunity to meet other solo travellers. Lots of older travellers were staying here at the time, so I don't think its needed, but I would have like to meet new people and have a few beers. Bed was so soft that I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud... not great for my back though! Depends on how firm you like it.
Location, location, location. Excellent breakfast sets you up for the day and the staff very friendly. Central so you can easily make your own way around the city.

Most staff I came in contact with (not to say all..) came across as very sarcastic, rude and unhelpful at points. This happened to me, but also to several other guests. On one particular occasion (and there are others) I had asked about what to to in the instance of my card not letting me into the building late at night (which was a regular occurrence with my particular card). One particular staff member had said "Nothing I can do. If it works on your room door, then I can't try anything else". I asked if there would be any alternatives, and they said no (no contact number, or suggestions). Later that night when I arrived late (ca. 11 pm), and my card had not worked - I knocked on the reception door, and although no customer was being served at the desk - several staff members looked at me knocking/gesturing at my card, and then turned away! It was only when a passing guest let me in (after 5 minutes or so), was I able to get inside. I was then greeted with "evils" from the on-duty staff. Not impressed.
Great location, atmosphere and facilities. The hostel has a comforting ethos. The breakfast staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the area as a whole was well maintained and clean.

I can't find power outlet near my bed, so you have to charge your phone in the share space. Don't forget to bring your sandal, should wear it when stay in the hostel.
staff - nice. I stayed in dorm and my parent stayed in private room. Dorm Room space - OK, you can leave you luggage in the dorm and there is locker for each bed(don't forget to bring key locker) . bed is comfort. I can't find power outlet near my bed, you have to charge your phone in the share space. Private room bed is comfort, large space. Clean room, very good wifi. plenty of toilets and shower room. I love hostel's kitchen - very large kitchen, large fridge and freeze. free drinking water. Share area is lovely, nice song, you can sit in the sofa and charge your electronic device. Breakfast - there is milk, hot coffee, tea bag. You can get 1 banana/apple, 2 toast or 1 bagel, 1 oatmeal. Breakfast area is OK,sometimes you have to wait for free seat. Location is very good, nice view form the hostel. Many parking spaces but you have to walk around 200-400m from the reception.

Location was great. Common areas were spacious.

As I was travelling alone, going back in the dark was a bit sketchy but the area is actually safe.
Good location to access Golden Gate Bridge and green areas on the east. Not too far from center either and you can enjoy a nice walk on the piers to the west. Clean facilities and friendly staff. I could leave my bags before checking in and after checking out. Enough bathrooms and showers so no queue required. Nice view on the bridge during breakfast!

There was a pair of socks and an empty bottle left on my bed when I checked-in.
Excellent location and value

I was in a top bunk. It was way too hot. I could not sleep. I left my room before 3:30 am
The people were nice. The location is great.

This is a hostel, so the standard annoyances like shared restrooms and snoring roommates do apply. Nothing out of the ordinary, though.
The Fort Mason location is beautiful oasis of green in a city of wall-to-wall people. The staff is energetic, and the food is far above average for a hostel. Also, there is a major muni bus stop just a block away for easy access to the rest of the city.

Good bus connections the Opera and Golden Gate Park. Short walk to Fishermans Warf Ferries to various destinations on the bay.

It was very very busy due to a convention, but it's not an actual fault
It was set in a very nice, quiet, location. Close enough to a lot of attractions.

The mattress was rather soft. I am slim, and I felt like I was sagging on the upper bunk. Perhaps they should imposed a lights-out time so that people in the 20 bed mixed dorm can be more sensitive. Note that the breakfast is limited (1 bagel or 2 sliced toast; 1 bag of oatmeal; 1 fruit; refills of OJ, tea and coffee) The place is on a fort and so you will need to walk a little with your luggage should you be taking public transport.
Reception was 24 hours and they are always on the ball to help. If the queue is long, they will acknowledge your presence. This place includes breakfast, and is near to safeway where you can get groceries and more food. You can walk to the piers and even golden gate bridge.
March 29, 2015
too many beds (20) in the dorm and too expensive…$40 too much for a bed in a hostel esp in such a big dorm. You should not have a pricing system similar to air lines…ie the closer to the day you book, the more expensive the cost…the nature of backpacking is that you need a bed at short notice and it's unfair to be penaised for doing this.
big, well-equipped kitchen.
March 27, 2015
Dorm are a bit noisy, need to use ear plugs
March 27, 2015
Parking, location, & food.
March 24, 2015
No power sockets at your bed! Sounds minor, but if you use your phone for a camera/navigation, expect to spend the first hour of your day huddled next to a power socket in the lounge. One or two staff members a day less than friendly, most good. Beds are super soft, gets old after a few nights.
Awesome location Clean and tidy Lockers beneath bed Reasonably priced

Location, location, location - tram is just a short walk away. Friendly staff, breakfast, wifi. You see Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz just few steps from the hostel.
