hospitality,cleanness,charm and location
I was a student at FHL in the 1970s and this was my first return visit, this time with my wife who had never visited the San Juan Islands. We especially liked your having menus for local restaurants available. And the hot breakfasts were terrific.
A very minor thing - the wet seat cushions on the deck in the morning. Maybe they could be stored inside at night.
There was a musty smell throughout the house. The smell was offense and unpleasant. They made no accommodation for guests who were catching the early ferry. Didn't even offer a roll or toast on our departure. You either ate on their 1 hour window or tuft.
As soon as we walked in we were greeted by Greg with a warm smile and a hand shake. He ran through the local restaurants and attractions for us and made us feel truly welcome. The room was pristine and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was a pleasant gathering with the other guests and Naomi (Gregs wife) is the absolute sweetest lady. Making us all feel very comfortable and encouraging interaction of all the guests without making us feel pressured to socialize. If we ever need to stay in Friday Harbor over night again, we will be going back to the Hillside B&B.
Wifi signal was a little weak, but that is such a small downside, everything else was perfect
Extremely clean Harbor view from family room deck Wife was very pleasant, very informative of activities available on the island.
No flexibility with breakfast (coffee not available until 8, breakfast served only 8:30-9:30). We were awakened both nights by someone snoring. Walls were a bit thin. TV reception didn't work well. Couldn't access wi-fi from our room. Quite a ways from downtown. We had our car but it would have been difficult without it. Check-in took awhile when host spent a lot of time going over every menu for restaurants in town. Also, check-in time is quite strict between 4-6 only - difficult when the ferries run late.
Had a main level room with outside entrance - easy access for luggage. Clean, but plain decor.
Advertised as having a harbor view which was not true (located a mile or more from downtown Friday Harbor). Mediocre breakfast - heavy handed pepper in the souffle.
The hospitality was wonderful. The hosts made us feel right at home.
The hosts were so friendly and helpful that it's impossible not to have a great relaxing time. It's perfect walking distance from town.
Walls are a bit thin, but it didn't seem to stop my wife and I from sleeping soundly.
Very comfortable rooms
It's overpriced compared with traveling around the USA so far. Check in time is far to late at 4 pm .dont try earlier you will be refuse . Good breakfast but so regimented from 8.30 to 9.30 and the cooked meal only enough is prepared for number of guests staying .
The breakfast was fantastic. The owners were incredibly helpful and welcoming. Everything was very clean and comfortable.
I found the check in time of 4:00 difficult and hoped the owners would demonstrate more flexibility. The walls were paper thin making sleep difficult.
Our room is half underground. It is small and dark in the day. No view from room. We arrived a little early before it's 4 pm check in time, the owner did not let us check in even the room is ready. Hot breakfast starts at 8 am. It is too late for us who have to catch early ferry. Owner did not have any desire to accommodate our schedule to provide our paid breakfast. WiFi almost not working in our room. Location is far if you don't have a car. It is not worth the money for what you get.
The breakfast was wonderful . And the keepers were very helpful and knowledgeable .It was an enjoyable stay .
Great hosts. They have a great knowledge if the Island, extremely helpful. Nice accommodations. Great place to stay.
Bathroom separate from bedroom (had to cross the hallway)
So many things-a great reception on arrival, a thorough explanation of the facility, the community, its dining places and other activities available to a new arrival. The host and hostess were most congenial and helpful. All in all, a charming and extremely pleasant place to stay.
Can think of nothing we didn't like!!
Good breakfast and friendly hosts.
Hard bed and pillows.
Breakfast not served til 8:30 am and doesn't accommodate inter island ferry system. Very small room for price.
Friendly staff Location Clean Excellent breakfast
Bed was too hard Wifi was spotty
Hosts were very friendly and accomodating. Breakfast was great and location was withing walking distance of town.
Bathroom was small and for the price should have included a large jacuzzi tub. Also, upon arrival, owner spent too much time going over list of recommendations for dining locations.
The owners went out of there way to suggest restaurants and activities. Breakfast was fabulous! We met the other guests and shared our experiences of the Island. A nice touch in the dinning area was a board with who was staying in each room and where they were from. The owners are a delight and you can't miss the special cookies when you arrive. Definitely would visit again. Nanci
Room was lovely and we didn't want to get out of the wonderful bed in the mornings. Naomi was a superb hostess offering a multitude of options for sightseeing and amusement. Solitious of our every need, we felt as comfortable as if we were visiting old friends. Marcia / Wasgougal
The owners were extremely courteous and accommodating. Our room was ready, clean and cute. Homemade breakfast in the morning was great and it had a quaint "visiting grandmas house" feel to it. My wife and I had a wonderful time there and would definitely use this Bed & Breakfast again when we visit the San Juan Islands. We only stayed there one night and we wish we could have stayed longer to really soak all the small town vibes and hospitality in. But we are definitely going back sooner than later.
The ONLY thing we weren't too fond of about our room was the fact that the bathroom for our room was across the hallway (which was a common area). So we would have to get a robe or dressed to cross over from the bathroom to our bedroom. I believe MOST of the rooms here do have an attached bathroom but ours was not. Our bathroom was exclusive to our room, so at least we didn't have to share a bathroom. But it's just something you may want to be aware of when booking your stay there. Better to ask if the bathroom is attached.
The hosts of Hillside were wonderful! We would come back for another visit.
The breakfast was wonderful & the interaction w/ & among the guests was good.
The bed was too hard in the economy room. If you're a walk-on it's quite a hike (partly uphill) to the B&B.
Breakfasts were delicious. Wife was very friendly and informative.
Quite a walk from town and restaurants. Some people might not be able to handle this walk. Husband wasn't nearly as friendly as the wife, but he cooked well.
