This is a very old complex, a former motel. It was clean but not updated. I expected more for the money.
The location could not be better, within walking distance to downtown. Comfortable beds, quiet, very relaxing.
AC was a bit weak in my particular room.
Did like the complimentary happy hour but thought it could have been a little classier then plastic cups and string cheese.
Breakfast was so so. Little clumsy with pre-made breakfast sandwichs And one microwave.
location was great facility was clean and well maintained liked the evening wine, cheese and appetizers, nice touch
evening staff not friendly wanted a queen or king bed, got double beds upon arrival, staff reported "you don't have reservations, that is not uncommon with booking.com" I showed them my print out- confirmation, still said they didn't receive it.
Staff acted like it was an imposition to answer questions or serve us.
Very clean. Nice room. Fresh look to the room. In walking distance to town.
Comfort of King bed Wonderful shower with enough water output.
Frig was small
My parents and our family have stayed at the HIllwinds for many, many years! It brings back such wonderful memories of the times my dad and mother brought us, then their grandchildren! The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and it is such a wonderful location !
There is nothing not to like!!
Great location and friendly staff.
Great location within walking distance of Main Street. Staff very well versed on local restaurants, shopping, running trails, etc. Quaint, small lodging option. Very safe. Very convenient. Very welcoming and inviting. Will stay here again.
The bathroom tub/shower needed some maintenance attention - tile was falling apart around spout. On another note, breakfast was very lacking. A waffle maker, pancake maker, fresh sausage or bacon would go a long way in improving breakfast offerings.
Location. Convenient parking. nice room.
Minimum cocktail hour and breakfast.
Great meal recommendations and service in general
Breakfast was fair at best
Loved loved loved this place! Everything was amazing and cannot wait to go back.
Really loved the huge bed! It was amazingly comfortable.
The rooms were very clean. The staff was polite and attentive. It was a very quiet setting. Can't wait to go back!
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Other guests were also congenial and helpful. Convenient location to everything. Wine & snacks were great! Breakfast had lots of options.
Room as adequate, but nothing fancy. It was very clean, but lacked drawer space to unpack (had extra blankets and pillow in the drawers) and no comfortable chair for sitting/reading.
It was a great place to spend our 39th anniversary
Homey, comfortable, great fireplace, happy hour, staff
All was good, my 6th stay and I will be back
Helpfulness of the staff
The toilet ran all night.
The quaint look.
Could have a better breakfast.
The ambience and the proximity to town with restaurants and shopping
Was OK - nothing particularly special
Room a bit small, no desk in it, poor WiFi access, dull breakfast
When I arrived I had a reservation for two rooms booked six weeks prior when we arrived at 10 oclock the day we are to check in we were told the room's were not ready come back after 3 when we came back at 4:30 we were told they only had one room they made a mistake and nothing no one could do about it there were no rooms available in town this turned out to be a nightmare! The room had only one bed I think this was done on purpose for obvious reasons. I think we deserve better than what we were treated other than finger pointing. It was a total nightmare for me I was not related to the others.I Was charged $225.00 for a room that was way over priced for what it was.and had to share with another couple if these people had any consideration at all it would have been totaly free Best Regards, John F. Chaney Wilmington,NC
Upon arrival there was no record of our reservations. The female at the front desk was not friendly or cordial
Location of Hillwinds Inn--center of town within easy walking distance, even for older couples. Many shops and restaurants. Interesting and beautiful tourist sites (Cones Mansion, Grandfather Mountain, Blowing Rock, etc.) within easy driving distance. Gorgeous scenery! The daily wine & cheese reception was excellent for meeting other guests.
There was no wi-fi signal available in our room, so we had to move to another room for the rest of our stay. There was no easy chair in the new room for relaxing reading. Staff was very accommodating, understanding and pleasant, however.
