Many issues with the house that show need of maintenance, parts were in disrepair. Weak breakfast.
Big older house that has potential. Just outside of town far enough to still be convenient.
The house was lovely and UNIQUE!!!! and great location - across from the best north shore beach. An Maureen and her husband Dean were very welcoming and informative. The bed was comfy and the breakfast delicious.
Rainy side of the island and it lived up to its name but for our stay the whole Island was experiencing wet weather so maybe an unfair comment.
Loved the historic home and the friendly caring approach to guests.
The house was charming right across from great beach. Set back in a lush garden setting. You could hear the frogs and birds at night, very peaceful. Maureen was a great host. She was very interesting and informative, super friendly!
Lovely place, perfect American breakfast, wonderful beach right above the street!
Missing connections and only being able to spend one night Not spending more time riding horses with her. Maureen is a very special person.
Perfect when flying in and out of Hilo The wine she came up with after tough airline connections The ambience and the breakfast Location on a peninsula of great beauty and next to excellent Seaside Restaurant
The location is quite far from downtown Hilo, this was fine as we had a car but no good if you don't. If you need silence to sleep then this is not the place for you. There is no safe in the room and the house is unlocked, which isn't great if you are travelling with passport and valuables.
Good breakfast each morning, fruit, coffee and pancakes/waffles. Really pretty individually decorated bedrooms. I like falling asleep to the sound of frogs.
Feel very bad while taking a shower. Unsteady hot water: sometimes it comes immediately, sometimes you have to wait for couple of minutes, and it will not last long... The door can not be closed, and we have to put the luggage to prevent it open. Too expensive, the same price I should choose condo.
wifi was slower and dropped out occasionally Coqui frogs were so loud we couldn't hear the TV (not Maureen's fault)
Really neat house very comfortable bed bathroom was nice with unlimited hot water lots of comfortable sitting areas to relax and read
Some of the night sounds of motorcycles, traffic, and a neighbor's crying child. Those are things out of Maureen's control.
Location from airport and desired attractions. Personal, helpful guidance from Maureen concerning places to see and things to do in a minimum amount of time. Hosts anxious to help with whatever needs arose during our stay. Breakfasts refreshing and timely. It was absolutely delightful! A highlight of our entire vacation.
Poorly identified. Another guest met me
Room was clean -&comfortable Breakfast was good but not spectacular.
No Air conditioning in the bedrooms
Maureen is a wonderful host. She is friendly, cooks delicious breakfast, gives advice what to do and to see - ther nothing more to ask for. The house is an exquisite place to stay, perfectly designed (by a japanese architect) and manufactured and was the best shelter you can think of, when hurrican Iselle made landfall nearby. (Since all the restaurants were closed at that time, Maureen cooked an excellent crab soup for us for dinner!) You should like cats on your lap and coquis in the night - but we did. The dogs are downstairs, normaly quiet and friendly, never bothering us, rather protecting the open house. So, next time Hilo it will be Maureens B&B again, for sure.
Very friendly owner
Staying at Maureen's B&B was a major highlight of my Hawaiian experience. Maureen made me feel at home immediately. Her house is magical, it's nestled in what feels like a tropical forest and I loved falling asleep to the sound of frogs. Each guest room is unique and decorated with care and the entire house radiates with history. It's a true wonder. I really enjoyed my breakfasts, particularly the fresh waffles and papaya, and coffee with Maureen, she's a great host and was full of great advise and recommendations. She is minutes away from downtown and Richardson's Beach. I recommend this place to anyone looking to truly experience Hilo from a local perspective.
Great hospitality Very friendly Comfortable accommodation
No air condition !!
Nightly frog serenade would take longer than we stayed to get used to, but earplugs did help a LOT.
Good recommendations on restaurants and sites in the area. Beautiful park across the street - should have had my snorkel along. Incredible 1930 home built with redwood.
That we had to leave after 4 days.
Maureen is an excellent host, she told us where to go and what to do and she knows her island. She has great ideas and is a true bed and breakfast owner, she 'opened' our eyes for the Hawaiian life style on the Big Island.
We did not know there were two dogs and a cat. Also the Internet was no working. Breakfast was not good. Only pancake, (preparation you buy at the store). Cup of tea were dirty. The outside property was very mess.
Friendly, family atmosphere with personal care of owner - Maureen.
Maureen is fabulous.
There was no individual en suite and 3 rooms shared one bathroom. Fortunately this was not a problem as we were the only occupants for 2 of the nights. The breakfast menu was limited to one option.
It was an interesting old house and the surrounding vegetation was attractive. The twin room was very pleasant.
Sharing a bath Not enough outlets and grounded outlets
Breakfasts Knowledge and advice of hostess "Old Hawaii" architecture of lodging, interior balconies, wood paneling
Maureen is super friendly and provides plenty of helpful recommendations about what to see and to do; very nice and comfortable location;
