Location, location, location!
Mold on shower wall; 1/2 roll of toilet paper plus 1 new roll...as I also work in the industry on the Kona side, I foumd these two things to be uncalled for.
Very poor breakfast. Surprisingly they could not hold our luggage for some hours as most hotels do. Very outdated!!
Our room was comfortable, ALL of the staff were friendly, helpful and cordial. The housekeeper for our room and the women who worked at the continental breakfast each morning were especially friendly and helpful. The close proximity to the beach and the ease of walking around in parks close by the property made our stay in Hilo more enjoyable. Uncle Billy's General Store was also a "plus", good food, cold sodas, great coffee and, especially, very friendly staff!
Maybe it was papaya season, but we would have preferred more variety in the fruit for breakfast and perhaps some other condiments, peanut butter for example, would have been good.
The staff was very friendly and helpful
This Hotel is very outdated and in much need of repair and new upgraded furniture in the rooms
fresh mango at the breakfast
The worst hotel I had in Hawaii.
Cold AC clean beds lots of towels
Wifi signal weak
the free Wifi, coffe maker and fridge in the room. Room was also a good size
This hotel is in major need of an overhaul. Outside has crumbling cement work and paint peeling. Rooms in need of re vamp
Perfect location for the sightseeing we had planned. The property is right on the water and we enjoyed walking to and in the Japanese Gardens and out to a small island. The staff is friendly, courteous and very accomodating. The rooms are large and clean. Keeping in mind that this is an old, old property and situated in a rain forest, helps one understand the condition of the structure, both inside and outside. I always say when staying at any motel, "I only need a clean comfortable bed and a shower". We will stay here again!
My only disappointment was the continental breakfast. I require protein in the morning to start my day so it was disappointing not to have scrambled eggs :( We alternated between Ken's Pancake House and Taco Bell for my egg and cheese fix.
friendly staff, nice continental breakfast, great location.
coqui frog songs could be heard all night long. Closed the jalousie windows, turned on the room air conditioner for white noise and it was bearable. Rooms also offers complimentary ear plugs to visitors.
Got moved to a different room without argument by staff. Second room was much better albeit still had evidence of mold in places (cracked tiles in bathroom floor etc). Location is great.
The first room was badly moldy. I don't mean just a visual appearance of mold, I mean that the smell was really bad and our group had respiratory problems and headaches from the mold. Room needs gutting and professional mold abatement. I recommend inspecting the rooms before deciding whether to stay here if you can.
I love the fact that there was a general store and restaurant attached to it. The restaurant had the best shish kabab that I've had in a long time. The general store was not that much more expensive than a market - I consider it to compare to 7-ll in price but the selection of items was fantastic. Anything you could need or want. The ice cream was sooo good. The staff was very courteous but most of all very friendly.
Like most hotels the shower pressure could be better.
Only 1 room. I thought I was getting a room with a bedroom
Liked the staff. Location a great place to stay.
I didn't like it when they had events at their Resturant. As the parking got filled up and than there was no parking for the motel guests. Some had to go out on the street. Just a heads up don't be surprised. Still a GREAT place to stay.
Front desk personnel was great . Lot of Aloha.
Parking was a problem.
Close to airport.
A little dated.
Location - ocean/bay view Free flower for your hair each day in the lobby. Staff friendly at check-in and out.
Breakfast buffet was poor - English muffin, 1 type of fruit and coffee. Facility is old, still use room keys, grounds kept up okay. Lacks modern technology. States free parking - parking lot only holds about 12 cars and shares with a market and restaurant - have to park on the street.
Style of hotel suits Hilo
Very poor internet
The location is beautiful in a historic area of Hilo with easy access to many areas. Great tree lined street for walking with access to a small island in the harbor. The gardens and view at the hotel are lovely. The ambiance made up for some of the tired facilities. At night, the live Hawaiian music in the cafe was top notch as well.
The hotel is older and needs renovations throughout. The interior rooms had some updating and were comfortable enough. The continental breakfast was OK but if you are gluten free, you can only eat the fruit.
The people who work there are amazing!!!!!! I will and would come back and stay there and recommend it very highly. Its not the hilton lol,but its got everything you need. But if your one that goes on vacation and stays in the room I wouldnt recommend this place because it doesnt have your minney bar in the room but it does have a lounge where local people hang out the bar personnel is amazing with excellent entertainment,it doesnt have big screen t.vs with everything cable but walk out the door of your room and the scenery is better than any show I have ever seen. And the little ladys that put fresh flowers out everyday for your hair (and there free, you dont get much for free)are amazing. If I had to rate my stay on a scale from 1to 10 I would give it a 100!
Location! Excellent value for the money! Staff was very friendly; front desk clerk was very efficient- although she was very busy, she made us feel welcome, and was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Room was great, nicely done, except--
Bathrooms need a professional upgrade-they look like they were last redone in 1980 by an amateur. Paint the balconies, consider planting Thujas to block the view toward the lot- it overlooks an outdoor smoking pavilion used by drug addicts.
We stay there whenever we are in Hilo. We like the more "local" atmosphere, as opposed to the generic hotels.
