Location central , beach easy walk and breakfast outstanding. What an excellent idea to be able to collect breakfast and coffee and be able to sit outside your room and admire the view. Loved Carmel
We just had the one night to spend in Carmel. Horses House was a great location near the town centre at a great price. Clean, comfortable bed, spacious and everything we needed all at a good price.
It was pet Friendly and the staff is very nice.
The rooms are not that great. Very dated. Especially for the price. Breakfast is ok if you are not very hungry. Dresser in room the drawers where warped and had to struggle to open Bath room was not great for getting ready because of the lights and mirrors.
Accommodation in Carmel is expensive. This is a very nice hotel at a very reasonable cost.
The property is on many levels. There are no elevators. This was not a problem for us, but might be an important consideration for some people.
Nice location within a nice walking distance to main street of town, Ocean Ave. Nice view from window. Convenient to have kitchen items available. Pastries were fresh in the morning. Shower was good.
TV was a bit small.
A large room with great facilities in kitchen area. Very helpful staff happy to provide a takeaway breakfast as we had an early start.
The walls were very thin between each room and no insulation as made of wood. and so we were woken early by footsteps up and down outside the room in corridor.
Nice view from the top floor
3-story hotel with no elevator. Walls & floors thin, noisy. Furnishings old & worn. Long walk to downtown.
upgraded to a unit with "kitchenette" husband liked the dry sauna has adjustable silent heater limited ocean view balcony and lots of windows
noisy all day and all night thin walls, screaming baby next to us and lots of kids running around above us on a truck route furnishings and carpet really ugly no elevator and lots of funky stairs no help w/bags
it was a lovely place to stay apart from the fact it rained but as it was the first time it had rained for 3 years, we look on this as unfortunate timing!
The breakfast was poor
Good service from staff. Nice heated pool.
Breakfast, no bread just croissant.
Could hear people upstairs walking back and forth late at night. Annoying.....
Location, Staff and cleaness
wifi was not always working properly
Everything, the people were very friendly, the place was nice and clean
It was a pleasure to stay at Hofsas House! The room had everything we wanted and it was very clean. The ocean view was wonderful. Thanks to Hofsas House and their staff for a special visit.
Ocean view from our room was wonderful. Room was spacious and comfortable.
Parking was a little tricky but we were fortunate enough to park in front of the hotel
everything is good.
Staff was friendly and the location was okay but about 3 long blocks off the main Ocean St. For the money this is an okay stay for the Camel area.
If you want to see what a hotel looked like 30, 40 or 50 years ago, stay here. Nothing much has been upgraded since it was new. Very hilly property, so if you don't like to hoof it up and down, be careful about this hotel
Value, location and German theme.
dated furniture and bathroom
everything is perfect!
Awesome ocean view from 4th floor (room 45) - nice cozy room, wood stove and kitchenette, lots of character (we were able to keep our top 1/2 of the split door open and listen to the waves while just relaxing in our room) A few blocks away from main down town made it a little less congested. easy walking to shops and dining. We went Sun - Wed, so non weekend and off season made for a low occupancy stay. Staff all very friendly.
it is an older hotel, so voice carry over from adjacent rooms can and will be a real possibility. (thin walls). From past reviews we knew breakfast pastries were good (and they were), but really limited selection, so we picked up a few frozen breakfast items that were easily micro-waved. breakfast issue solved. There are currently a number of construction projects going on around hotel, that have nothing to do with the hotel - so morning noise starts around 7:30- 8:00 - absolutely no fault on hotel. just be aware for next few months. Lastly, because of hotel built in to side of hill, lower parking areas can be challenging to enter and exit if you drive a lowered sports car. exit out bottom left to 4th st. is easiest. Still better than having to park on the street for me anyway. But, none of these things would prevent us from staying again. overall, we were very satisfied
Location close to town center, relatively easy to find. Rooms facing ocean side, not street. Nice view from upper floors. Basically quiet. Clean. Comfortable mattresses.
Breakfast is very minimal, lukewarm coffee, orange juice, squished danish pastries, small yoghurts, bananas and apples. Room(s) shabby, in need of renovation.
the location is ideal for accessing Carmel amenities
overpriced for facilities on hand. Don't regard it as 3-star. Noisy neighbours spoiled visit (no insulation between rooms, flimsy construction)
The view, balcony, and location couldn't be beat. We really loved getting to walk into town, and enjoyed the complimentary breakfast on the private balcony each morning. The pool was really nice, and we enjoyed getting to lay outside there for a bit! The walk through the town to the beach was really lovely and the beach itself was truly incredible!!
We really couldn't come up with any issues... if you don't like walking, it may be a bit far from the town center for you (though we enjoyed getting to stroll the streets!), and breakfast was limited, so if you are a heavy AM eater you may need to go out!
Nice staff, pool area
Breakfast area - no place to sit
