This is like my 4th time staying with them and I'm always pleased. The location is safe, they have free parking, the staff is nice, the rooms are comfortable. Near by there is a great Italian restaurant we went to twice...
I liked everything. I was just a bit bummed their pricing was higher than other times, like $30 more a night. The only thing I would recommend is that the night staff be more familiar with good restaurant recommendations in the nearby area, especially with all the different types foods areas i.e. Thai, Korean, Armenian, Mexican....
This hotel is great for a couple on vacation. There is no amenities for children or for business travelers, other than the free wi-fi. However, we found this hotel delightful. It was built in the 1920's and is beautiful. The staff is helpful and friendly. The best was that the walls of the rooms are so thick, you don't have to worry about your neighbors waking you up.
The front desk staffer (Michael?) was extremely friendly and polite. The hotel looked freshly painted and scrubbed, yet retained its historic charm. Like the free parking and large photos of stars on the wall. Especially loved that Ava Gardner was outside our room. I'm a big fan.
It got very cool in the middle of the night, and there was only one thin blanket to be had. Didn't see or know about the electric space heater hidden in the closet. Also, there were only 2 thin paper cups for drinking, and they leaked. Come on. Put at least some plastic cups in the room.
Vintage feel…seemed more like a friends house than a hotel. Remember, it's an old place. Do not expect top notch amenities. Just sit back and enjoy the vibe of vintage Hollywood.
The location, the free parking, the free WIFI, and the friendly staff.
The bed was very firm. My friend asked if we were sleeping on only a box spring not a mattress.
Very poor pillows and bed sheets
I love classic hotels like this. The pictures on the hallways of old, classic celebs like Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, and others.
Since it's such an old building, they didn't have central AC. Temperature was a bit warm but not unbearable.
location view from windows staff at reception
no breakfast wifi didn't work
The morning staff was amazing.
The night staff was a bit weird.
stylish place in a stylish area
bad smell in corridors
clean room good location
Not far from attractions and has a free parking lot
It is really old and smells bad, very tiny bathroom, definitely needs renovation. We are diplomats in the US and have tax exemption card, valid all over the country, but this is the only hotel which didn't care at all. The blonde boy at the reception really tried to help and called the owner but she just refused to exempt the tax.
The staff were nice and the place had old style charm
Lots of street noise and can hear other guests all the time
The t.v. the bed.
Felt like an apartment, as opposed to a hotel. Small rooms.
Location, adequate parking, amazing value for the area
Older hotel with dated bathroom
The location, although not in the heart of Hollywood, it was conveniently situated between Fairfax, Korea Town and Hollywood, all places we wanted to visit for specific reasons. The building had an old world charm and the hallways was decorated accordingly. The long hallways also reminded of an asylum. Free internet and TV channels, as opposed to some other upmarket hotels that make you pay for it. What they quote is what they charge, no hidden fees.
The carpet in our bedroom could have been cleaner. There were two stains in the corner that was a bit offputting.
Never been to LA. Read good reviews for this hotel on line. Totally agree. Clean simple hotel. With secure parking. Staff offered great advice re places to eat, visit.
Location was great, close to Hollywood/Downtown and 101 Freeway, had a great view of the Hollywood sign and the observatory, quiet rooms, beautiful building, parking, and WiFi included, mini-fridge, it was great.
Bed could've been softer.
We spent two nights at the hotel and loved it's charm. The rooms were spacious and well kept. The entire place is full of memorabilia from Hollywood's heyday and a lot of the fixtures and elements are from the original 1920's build. When we checked in the front desk was very helpful in making sure we knew how to get around and provided us maps and directions. If you're interested in doing lot tours like Paramount, you're walking distance away. If you want to go down to Hollywood Boulevard, you're going to need to drive or have the hotel call you a cab as it's about a 45 minute walk from the hotel. For the price and general proximity to the attractions of Hollywood, this hotel was a gem and a great find.
The hotel doesn't offer any meals or room service so you're on your own for all of that. If you're staying by the hotel for dinner, there is an amazing little Italian restaurant two minutes down the street called Osteria La Buca. We had an amazing meal with excellent cocktails.
Noisy next door guests. Night time crane work outside my window, very disturbing!
Staff Room size view of the Hollywood sign
location is good, but LA is so big, your always a distance from everything. no real negatives
the room of the Hollywood sign from the view. room size was big. staff were excellent.
wifi was a bit slow
Good sized room clean and friendly staff
Area it's a bit run down and poor public transport
Very comfortable room, clean and cozy with a feel of the past, minutes from Hollywood blvd and pleanty of parking
Nothing terribly bad other than the traffic on melrose, but thats just LA
