Pool options! Great, clean, spacious rooms and common areas. Excellent staff all around! (housekeeping, bell staff, front desk, pool staff, etc). Definitely feels a lot nicer than the places our relatives stayed at just down the street.
We were next to a "trash room"... people from all the rooms would dump excess trash here in this room, as a result, it was DIRTY. Food all over floor, etc. NOT staff's fault, but people not taking care of facilities. Result was cockroach on floor. Thankfully, this room's door is solid, so unless door was open, it was hidden from view. There's construction on the South side of building, so if you have that side (like we did), the view was detracted due to the ugly sight. But you still had ocean views. (but it was quiet).
Location of Resort was excellent.
It is not for persons who have have difficulty walking, Poor kitchen layout-dishes in hall closet.
The Resort was breathtakingly beautiful! The view of the mountains were spectacular. Sunrise and Sunset both amazing! Easy access to beach and pools. Easy access to the highway for local travel. Really good concierge for booking excursions!
We were in the north tower. There isn't a market in the south tower. We didn't utilize the kitchen. it would have been nice to have a coffee barista in the north tower for mornings and afternoon refreshments.
We had a so called trainee at the pool but she really didn't need any training at all. Her name is Kelly Bowden who was our server for almost all the days at the pool. She was the best. Roland and Anthony who worked pool cabanas were the best also. They all made our stay a joy and we will be going again.
We didn't like that the male trainer for Kelly got to keep the tips she deserved because she did all the work and we never saw him at all
Loved the kitchens and in room washer and dryer!
Spacious room and nice size kitchen and living area. Also liked the wrap around balcony.
Noisy. Construction view not great. Lack of restaurant, no one was ever at the bar.
Pool area not clean enough. Decks had sand and gravel on them pool and spa had leaves in them
Beach was great, new hotel and my wife liked the kitchen
The pools were not so clean, nobody helped us to carry out our luggage when we arraived the hotel
It was a great experience and I would highly recommend it as a destination if one is planing a trip to Maui. Dukes was a pleasant surprise as well. Friendly staff from the parking attendants to the cleaning staff. Also very helpful and right on the money consierge group. An extremely enjoyable stay. Thanks for the upgrade as well.
Can't think of anything.
Clean comfortable units, proximity to beach, pools, outside first class gas grills, and dining.
Ground level not a view of the ocean. Had to keep calling house keeping for laundry and dish washer detergent and coffee condiments.
Requested an ocean view for our 40th anniversary they had a gift for us!
We didn't get the ocean view and spent a lot of time on our lanai looking at the courtyard:(
Everything! We were so comfortable! We have a two year-old and this was the place for all of us!
I have nothing bad to say about this resort!
Loves the trade winds flowing thru the lobby. Room was great. Loved the multiple pools and the easy access to the beach. The BBQ pits were very clean and an excellent way to cook dinner
If you want to drink by the pool w/ your own beverages you have to keep in a plastic cup or bottle. In short hide your drink. When they s/d the pool they drove up on a golf cart and shined the lights right on us and told us to get out.
Great location, nice apartments, quiet, clean.
No Beach equipment included
Our room was excellent, the facilities were the best and the staff was beyond friendly, helpful and pros!!!
Wi fi was weak but who cared!!!!! We only used it to find restaurants and activities!!
Very nice resort, large rooms, clean. Dukes was best meal we had on entire trip. Concierge was very helpful as this was our first visit to Maui.
Everything! Great rooms, nice Amenities, Dukes! Great Snorkeling! Helpful staff! Really a great place stay. We island hooped this trip started at Honua Kai and then went to Kauai. When we came back to Maui for the third leg of the trip, we had planned on staying at a different resort but we had such a great stay at Honua Kai we canceled our other reservation and stayed at Honua Kai. I would highly recommend staying there. I'll be back. Aloha!
Pool great for kids, and also liked proximity to beach and grocery store. Did not use valet parking as front lot is so close anyway. Pool-towel service useful but we usually went to other beaches! Enjoyed bright open cleanness of reception/pool area. Nice little store in lobby but not cheap. Bed big and comfortable. Kitchen nice but knives dull. Atmosphere of hotel is kid-friendly. Two large tv's but selection of channels for kids poor. Liked mountain view but is best on upper floors - fourth floor is too low.
Do not recommend beach for swimming, except early morning, but ok for kids to play at and good view. Much better beaches in south Kihei. Restaurant did not seem kid-friendly so did not eat there. Did not like lack of pool toys for kids except for purchase. Kids did not care anyway. Cleaned room every second day, so room towels ran out (kids used a lot) and kitchen garbage can get smelly. Drive from central Maui a little too long. We only stayed a week but if we stayed longer we would probably rent a condo (book way ahead) in Kihei and swim at beaches instead of pool. I would have been much happier at $100 less/night. We paid about $320/night total.
Exceptional room - we were upgraded to a 1 bedroom, very spacious and had everything you need
the weather was not at its best but what can you do......
I've stayed at lots of resorts. I came to this resort with my 20 year old son who calls me "obnoxiously demanding." I really liked the Honua Kai- it met all of my expectations. That is not easy to do. We will return.
There is only one restaurant on the property and it can get very crowded, and its menu is fixed. The place is great, but it would have been great to have more options. That said, we chose the resort because it is so close to Lahaina and it was great to be close enough to spend time there on a number of occassions.
Big rooms. Good wifi. The woman explaining the information of the island, Sara, is very nice and helpful in everything she does. She was the nicest person we found in the hotel.
We told that it was our honey moon and they did not provide any compliment in spite of the very very high price of the hotel. One day they did not clean our room what is not acceptable considering the expensive price of the hotel. There is only one shop with a few things and the prices are incredible (i.e. 7 dollars one litre of milk)
Location and cleanliness. Undercovrr parking
Poor facilities. Couldn't print important docs (told to go across the roaad). Had a car emergency and needed a quick lift around the corner but was told to take a taxi.
What I love about Honua Kai is the atmosphere. Families and older couples alike all hanging out, enjoying themselves between the beach, bar and pool areas. The rooms are immaculate and well appointed. The cafe/grocery store is very convenient for those few things needed in the full kitchen from gluten free bread, eggs and fruit, to wine and pre-prepared choices.
One early morning I went to slide pool/hot tub area with my youngest daughter, and there were plastic cups and garbage around the hot tub area. Also, once the opened the slide there were pieces of chicken tenders all broken up on the steps! When I told the skid attendent, he just went down and kicked it all off into the plants. I thought that was gross
Great location, beach, rooms. Duke's restaurant was great!
I loved this resort from the minute I walked in! How could you not! I loved the towel exchange, whenever you need a dry/clean towel you just exchange it! I loved the daily housekeeping! The roll out bed was comfortable and plenty of room for it in a room that had a king (separate's into twins). Bathrooms were big, lani was big! The sliding glass walls opened fully to let the beautiful Hawaiian breeze in your room! Full kitchen was wonderful with 4kids! washer and dryer were a plus! We had a partial ocean view rm HK239...the grounds were well kept! Everything is available here at the resort, (beach chairs, snorkel equipment, boogie boards, and lots of adventures)! The multiple pools are great! This is our Hawaii destination next time for sure!
hmmm.....I hate to even say something. If I had to choose one thing, I would say more servers at the pool area, and have them stay later.
