The pools are gorgeous, but as one side of the resort had a closed pool for construction, it meant that the pools on our side were totally packed. We actually spent more time at the beach, anyways. We wouldn't consider it necessarily a downside, but the hotel does seem a bit more catered towards families because the pool areas were all very shallow. Lots of families and kids in that area, but if that's not your thing, the beach is just steps away and romance can happen anywhere on this beautiful island.
On our taxi trip from the airport, our driver told us knowingly, "you won't even have to leave your resort - it's that gorgeous." She knew we had just arrived on Maui for our first trip to Hawaii and that we were beginning our honeymoon stay. The staff was wonderful and so friendly- always willing to ask how our stay was, where we were from, and they even gifted us with a personalized present upon our arrival, congratulating us on our marriage. The grounds and landscaping are immaculate. The rooms, especially the kitchen, spared no expense. You can tell they took care to select quality products, appliances, and furniture when planning this resort. We had an amazing view of the grounds and the ocean, and our lanai was tucked in away from the harsh trade winds. The pool staff was also very friendly, and helped in any way they could. Duke's Beach House is right on the edge of the property and is SO WORTH checking out! Do not miss your chance to try the Duke's Breakfast Sandwich or the panko crusted calamari appetizer. We didn't try any main courses there, but there is no doubt they must also be very good. Prices weren't bad either, as considering they could be much higher. Last thing worth mentioning was that on the road side of the resort, there is a good sized grocery store and some small shops. It's all within a short walk, and you can save some big bucks by making some of your own meals in the room. (If you don't like to cook, then what's the point in staying somewhere with an amazing kitchen right in your room?) there are also bbq grills throughout the property that you can use for 30 min at a time. Thumbs way up, all in all!

Unfriendly staff not willing to help. The pool is under (noicy) renovation. We complain but they did not understand why. They told they had informed everyone. No news nor on their own site or the booking sites they refered to. The day after we complained they had mounted an information board about the work. When we spoke to the manager - they only said it was due low season (we stayed there april-may). But hey! - we did not pay low season price... $400+tax+resort charges per night. We have stayed at MANY hotels World wide but this is by far the worst experience. Did i mention the fire alarm? No? It went of a cople of times too (after noon and night time). Our son got afraid and would not sleep in his own room.
the beach and the beach walk was great.

Didn't like the wind. Also didn't like that there were no shower amenities for us so that we could still enjoy the day there because our flight didn't leave until 9:30 p.m. so ended up paying for an extra day so that we could enjoy the whole day there.
Rooms were a great size and the set up was great!

Beds were a little soft but otherwise bedding and decor fabulous!

What we didn't like was the fact that there is a construction site directly next door,we were lucky, heard other guests rightfully complaining. A constant sewrage smell, constantly insanely windy , and room classifications not what was advertised , partial ocean view means" stand on a chair a glimpse the ocean and look at the highway".
loved the pools, the beach, the sunset, and the room we eventually ended up in. Staff were friendly too.

Duke's restaurant was on site. Many pools to match everyone's needs. Water slide. Fitness room, spa...

Pull out couch was very uncomfrotable for the kids, king bed was great in the one bedroom condo.

Two of the hot tubs were out of order. Security had the bright idea to use glued warnings to car windows regarding displaying parking passes. It had to be scrapped off. :(
It was an absolutely beautiful resort. We loved everything about it.

Only one restuarant on the property. Not a good introduction to the property upon arrival. Price was high.
2-bedroom unit with partial ocean view was very nice and well equipped. Underground parking a bonus. Not far from Lahaina.

A lot of late night noises that should have been recognized by hotel staff, and should have been abated without guest intervening. We had to close our veranda doors on such beautiful evenings and overnight. What a shame to have to do that!
The view, the room, ease of walking to anywhere. Dukes was great!

The hide a bed was very uncomfortable. The wifi was slow and hit and miss so if you need it for work it may be a little frustrating.
The resort is right on the beach. The facilities available are amazing. Having our own kitchen was great. Many activities available if you're looking for things to do. Great family resort with young or older children.

just across the street is a very well equiped supermarket and some restaruants that also offer take out food. There is a beautiful boardwalk along the water all the way past whalers village to the Hyatt , probalby a good 5 mile return walk. great swimming and snorleling at Airport beach just steps away

No bad experiences but would have liked a warmer pool in the morning!
Very comfortable and spacious unit. Loved the large lanai. might not have liked being on an outer view room. loved both bedrooms looking out toward pool and beach. loved the depth of the family pool for granddaughter - she learned to swim at Honua Kai!

-more than 20% taxes and hidden taxes as being daily charges!! -only one restaurant on the Beach and not of high quality. Just OK for the beach! -no room service- room cleaning on demand Beach chairs & sun umbrella to be rented Receptionnists not really "welcoming"
The resort and the location

The drive around the place to get to the second building, although we only had to do it once because of the rear gate.
The room was great. The pool was just the right size. The service at the pool was great. Duke's was a nice restaurant for breakfast and lunch.

Pricey. More lighting needed in bathrooms.
Location. View. Facilities. Restaurant.

The only thing I did not like was the bed pillows, I woke up with a stiff neck every morning, maybe provide some feather pillows, like other resorts?
I really liked the location so close to down town Lahiana and Kapalua. the weather was so beautiful. l liked the pools and the vicinity to the beach. a supermarket was right across the street, in walking distance. It has ample barbecue stations. The entire resort was beautifully furnished and the staff was friendly and helpful.

There were no instructions in the apartment so we had no idea how to use the coffee maker, ice machine, washing machine etc. The daily pool fee of $29 is excessive and should automatically be included in the room price, not added on each day.
We loved the choice of pools with plenty of sun lounges, the BBQ facilities, the self-contained apartments, Dukes bar, live music in the evening as you watch the sunset.

Food prices were higher than I expected, next time we'll stay in a suite again (loved our suite!) and prepare more food in the room.
The resort grounds were simply beautiful. We all enjoyed swimming in the several pools on the grounds, especially the water slide and waterfalls. The beach was quiet and steps from our door, and all of the hotel services to enjoy the beach were also fantastic. I personally enjoyed scuba diving the reef right in front of our hotel.
