Love the room and decor. Very convenient location in Gas Lamp.
Parking valet was $30 a night.
Hotel felt like a bed a breakfast. It was charming and cozy. Very we'll located in the Gaslamp area. Staff was very personable, warm and welcoming. Rooms had a European feel while having modern conveniences.
Quiet, clean and interesting spot in downtown with access to the area by walking.
Wi-Fi was not working as some equipment issue they said. They were apologetic but offered nothing else to accommodate.
I liked the old deco, it was pretty cool. Staff were really helpful and location was great.
I loved the location! We could walk anywhere. Very quaint. Had a New Orleans feel.
Couldn't get the WiFi to work. The bedding could have been fluffier and there was a septic odor in rm220 at certain times of day.
Ambiance, historical background, view from balcony, and location.
As we were traveling with a couple, we reserved specific rooms which upon arrival were given away.
The cleanliness and value for the money. Friendly staff
The concierge were not as knowledgeable about the area as they should be
They have a lovely courtyard that is great for sitting and reading, and it's very close to some good restaurants in the Gaslamp District. The hotel decor is lovely, and there is a great yoga studio just across the street.
Checkout was a bit slow since there was just one person at the front desk. The rooms over the Palace Bar are a bit noisy so if you have those, bring your earplugs.
I liked how close it was to the main street of the gaslamp quarter. The staff was very nice and helpful.
Very attractive historic building with a great bar. Location is fantastic.
Room next to the service elevator was noisy.
The location is great, we parked our car and walked everywhere on our for day trip. Charming hotel.
Remodeling now with noise but they are doing a good job trying to keep it under control. Rating for hotel will be higher once renovation is complete.
I loved the building and it's location. The architecture alone was beautiful, but the fact that it's also located within the Gaslamp Quarter was a huge plus. The staff was very friendly and helpful; the cleaning lady even offered us a couple of extra free bottles of water. I loved having the fireplace in the room and the mix of new and old in general.
I should have realized that, being in the Gaslamp Quarter, parking is sparse, but in order to park your car overnight, it was $30. That said, it is a comparable rate to other lots, and you can take your car in and out as often as you'd like each day, which you can't at other lots, plus you use the valet, and they bring the car around for you. The other thing I didn't like was the bed. It wasn't the most uncomfortable bed I've slept in, but it was firmer than I'd prefer, and the sheets were a rougher fabric than I've used in other hotels. For the ladies, I would recommend bringing a small travel mirror for applying your makeup - the one in the bathroom was a tad too tall, and there isn't much counter space either.
expensive parking. rude staff.
I loved how restaurants, mall, and nightlife was walking distance.
I didn't like how they don't help you with your bags but yet they charge 30 dollars per night stay.
Location Free wifi Balcony view over courtyard
the fireplace in the room.
i could not connect to wifi and work in my room. even that I call the support the hotel have.
Loved this hotel. Great location. Quaint rooms. Great staff.
Did not like the smaller pillows. Had to wait a bit after check in time for room to be ready.
Great location, cheaper car park next to hotel and a fireplace in the room!
A beautifully rebuilt/renovated classic hotel. Having something of a unique quality with so much history, yet modern in terms of comfort and friendly service.Perfectly located in the Gaslamp area with a vast range of nearby restaurants, shops and easy access to all that the San Diego downtown offers. Best hotel we used in three weeks albeit not the most expensive.
Parking expensive albeit with initiative you can find free parking, as we did.
The bed was very comfy, the fire place was a nice touch, even though I didn't use it, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the breakfasts were good. The location was very convenient for my purposes.
The bathroom was really below standard, rather old and tired, the balcony was too small to comfortably sit on. But most importantly, even my high-up 'quiet' room was not very quiet; of course one expects some noise in the Gaslamp Quarter, but the night club opposite the hotel produced so much noise, it really prevented me from sleeping.
The hotel is located near the Gaslamp District with lots of restaurants nearby. Everything we did was walkable. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast omelette in the hotel was a great price for the meal.
The hotel room was small, and the bathroom needed updating.
The hotel has a very nice character and is very well located. It looks gorgeous both inside and out. The staff (see what I didn't like) were good and responded to our complaints about the noise from the courtyard by providing a new, upgraded room. Very much appreciated.
We flew from Sydney so by the time we got there, we were tired and asked for a quiet room. We had a room overlooking the courtyard. It was a small nightmare as there were constantly meetings and events (including, I think, a wedding) which intruded into the room. If you want a quiet room, do not overlook the courtyard.
Great location in the Gaslamp District. Very quiet and peaceful. Lovely old world decor throughout the hotel. Great service.
There wasn't a Safe in the room however we could use a locked box at reception, less convenient however.
Hotel "vibe", staff and peacefulness
Room lighting is kind of too dim.
