Located in the heart of the Gaslamp District, we were minutes away from dozens of restaurants, shopping, the Convention Center & mass transit. The hotel is beautiful on the outside & common areas.
Room needs new carpet. Not enough vanity space. Had a housekeeping snafu one day of our visit.
clean, nice staff
no close fair priced restaurants, very noisy on the weekends with night club across the street, expensive breakfast buffet that wasn't that good.
Checked in and stayed in hotel for 2 hours and the AC still doesn't work, but the hotel was able to upgrade to suite with bigger room, and full working AC
The house keeping/maintenance guy usually takes 15-20 min from the time you request for assistance
This hotel is beautiful from the gorgeous staircase to the beautiful rooms and courtyard located in the best area of the Gas Lamp District . My husband and I stayed in a grand room which I'd highly recommend. It has lots of living space, FP, small fridge, microwave and definitely ask for a balcony with seating (some are just a stand-up balcony). We had a visit from two spirits (a male and a female) so yes, we can stay it is truly haunted!! We highly recommend this hotel. It's a little pricey but so worth it!
Construction was underway in the Lobby/Registration area but was not noisy. Just could not totally enjoy the beauty of that area.
I love the quaint quietness of the hotel and that it was in the perfect location for our conference.
The wifi was very weak and could not be connected to in the evenings.
The hotel does not have a great sound insulation...
The Horton Grand is truly a grand old hotel - but some rooms are less grand than others. The hotel itself is beautiful - foyer, amazing staircases, beautiful bar area, grand piano (with amazing pianist the night we were there) and situated in the lovely gaslamp district - easy access to other parts of the city. Our room was quite small, not a lot of room to unpack bags and move around, lacking in the extras that a lot of hotels provide. Quaint but impractical. A balcony room might have been a real delight. If we'd been staying longer we probably would have looked for an upgrade.
Not enough room. While the hotel was certainly Grand the room didn't live up to that name. Hard to unpack bags and move around. No sense of being in such a hotel when in the room.
How close the hotel is to everything. We did not drive for four days, we walked every were.
Rentovation of the front lobby..
Great location, in the middle of Gaslamp quarter, good service
My room at the 3rd floor was noisy, one could hear the noise of the flush at the upper floor and some machine in the corridor Too much expensive
Love this hotel and it's history
The construction but realize it's temporary will be back
Historical charm Friendly staff Location
Construction was a bit distracting but only temporary inconvenience
breakfast was the only meal, some remodeling going on
Room was lovely and was upgraded to a larger bed, great downtown location. I would book a room with them again.
Lobby under construction , no sign's as to where to go to check in, not enough valet's working.
Great potential. The staff tries hard to make things work.
I paid full price, but was not told that there were renovations going on that were inconvenient and noisy. Parking is expensive. The buffet breakfast was limited and over priced. There are better breakfasts offered for free at most Comfort Inns. First two bottles of water were free for a three night stay. Seriously?
The hotel has charm and is located perfectly for walking to multiple downtown area San Diego attractions, such as Petco Park and the Gaslamp district. Parking is $30 a day but allows for unlimited comings and goings within that time period, so is a relatively fair charge, given that you don't have to search for a parking space when you return from an outing further afield. The room was clean and comfortable. There is a nice period-styled bar adjacent to the lobby.
I'm not a big fan of wicker furniture, and so the period room decoration was not my cup of tea.
The parking costs, small bathroom, noise from courtyard at night and staff was not very friendly.
Great staff, clean, comfortable room
Small bathroom Furnished like your grandmother's house VERY noisy when the club across the street empties out late at night -- lots of yelling in the street, racing cars, horns
Amazing patio, great bar with over 500 whiskies, the rooms were very confortable, and the staff really friendly
I could have used a swimming-pool
Second to non for there location in downtown
Didn't like that I had to pay for parking as a guest
Location - Traditional Hotel
During breakfast the lady owner came to our table and started to talk with my wife (English is not our native language but we speak it quite well - may with some accent). At some moment, when the owner did not understand exactly what my wife was saying, she said quite rudely "please speak English". We thought it was rather hurting.
The charm of the "old" building and decor. Location was great in day and early evening times. Easy to get around San Diego via transit. Bed was comfortable. Staff very pleasant.
Noise was terrible- even used earplugs, still could hear people talking a block away outside, not to mention thru the walls of the room.We were on the 3 rd. floor inside the courtyard. Sleep was 3 hrs. @ best. The bathroom floor needed to be cleaned. Lack of closet space (could hang 4 items only). In house "breakfast" was OK not worth $ 12.00 fee. You get same thing @ Residence Inn for free. Furniture was very old and wooden...not good for older people. Shower space needed a support bar for older folks. Constant round of weddings/conventions during the month of August. When making reservations, perhaps this should be mentioned as it increased an already unbearable noise level 24/7.
Loved the hotel overall. The court yard was an excellent place for my friends and family to gather in.
My wife and I are tall 6 foot plus and the shower heads are to low for taller people.
In the center of everything, but not loud or busy
The decor and location
