Loved this hotel. Great location. Quaint rooms. Great staff.
Did not like the smaller pillows. Had to wait a bit after check in time for room to be ready.
Great location, cheaper car park next to hotel and a fireplace in the room!
A beautifully rebuilt/renovated classic hotel. Having something of a unique quality with so much history, yet modern in terms of comfort and friendly service.Perfectly located in the Gaslamp area with a vast range of nearby restaurants, shops and easy access to all that the San Diego downtown offers. Best hotel we used in three weeks albeit not the most expensive.
Parking expensive albeit with initiative you can find free parking, as we did.
The bed was very comfy, the fire place was a nice touch, even though I didn't use it, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the breakfasts were good. The location was very convenient for my purposes.
The bathroom was really below standard, rather old and tired, the balcony was too small to comfortably sit on. But most importantly, even my high-up 'quiet' room was not very quiet; of course one expects some noise in the Gaslamp Quarter, but the night club opposite the hotel produced so much noise, it really prevented me from sleeping.
The hotel is located near the Gaslamp District with lots of restaurants nearby. Everything we did was walkable. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast omelette in the hotel was a great price for the meal.
The hotel room was small, and the bathroom needed updating.
The hotel has a very nice character and is very well located. It looks gorgeous both inside and out. The staff (see what I didn't like) were good and responded to our complaints about the noise from the courtyard by providing a new, upgraded room. Very much appreciated.
We flew from Sydney so by the time we got there, we were tired and asked for a quiet room. We had a room overlooking the courtyard. It was a small nightmare as there were constantly meetings and events (including, I think, a wedding) which intruded into the room. If you want a quiet room, do not overlook the courtyard.
Great location in the Gaslamp District. Very quiet and peaceful. Lovely old world decor throughout the hotel. Great service.
There wasn't a Safe in the room however we could use a locked box at reception, less convenient however.
Hotel "vibe", staff and peacefulness
Room lighting is kind of too dim.
Excellent location with excellent staff
Perfect location in the Gaslamp quarter for walking to bars, restaurants, and the water. Very friendly city, very clean, awesome place to drink.
Parking is expensive, no mini fridge in our room, but that's not to say that other rooms don't have them. Not many negatives about this place.
Decor Location Nice staff Clean
No swimming pool No Jacuzzi
the location is in the middle of the gaslamp district. near by the convention center and the Marina bay. Shops and restaurants around the corner.
Location, friendly staff
No one mentioned to us that there was a $30.00 per day valet parking fee. You have no other option but to use valet due to no street parking available. There is a sign posted but it is down the street on the valet stand and we dropped our car off up the street from it. Was quite surprised at the bill and all the reservation hostess said, "Well there's a sign" Also no restaurant in the building and no room service.
This hotel is in a great location in the Gaslamp district- walking distance of great bars and restaurants and the convention center. Quaint and old fashioned facilities are charming. Staff is helpful and friendly.
We were given a room on the street side of the hotel which was a bad idea. Besides the street noise, on Friday and Saturday nights until 11:30pm the downstairs bar piano is so loud the floor in our room was shaking. We were in room 332. Terrible. However, the hotel won some points back when we complained and they refunded those two nights to us in full. Thank you for that.
We stayed one night after a coastal cruise and were thrilled with our choice. Very friendly & accommodating staff, classy lobby, clean room, comfy bed, and balcony
Nothing - will choose Horton Grand on our next stay in San Diego
Room was upgraded & I checked in early-Clean - great location to Petco Park & Gas Light area
Did not Get Bath soap I asked for -No shampoo in bath- started buffet breakfest as was not told it would end in 15 min.
An awesome find. Not your typical cookie cutter hotel. VERY charming. Perfect location. Exceptional staff
Thin walls, but no big deal
Located in the heart of the Gaslamp District, we were minutes away from dozens of restaurants, shopping, the Convention Center & mass transit. The hotel is beautiful on the outside & common areas.
Room needs new carpet. Not enough vanity space. Had a housekeeping snafu one day of our visit.
clean, nice staff
no close fair priced restaurants, very noisy on the weekends with night club across the street, expensive breakfast buffet that wasn't that good.
Checked in and stayed in hotel for 2 hours and the AC still doesn't work, but the hotel was able to upgrade to suite with bigger room, and full working AC
The house keeping/maintenance guy usually takes 15-20 min from the time you request for assistance
Check in was a breeze. The hotel was easy to find and no problems with parking. We did choose valet after check in just because it was convenient. But there was off-site parking around. The room was beautiful, intimate, & clean. We had the breakfast buffet once, the food and service was fine. Enough tables and chairs, that patio setting is amazing. You're outdoors in the middle of the hotel. Just stunning. All the staff was very friendly. We could walk around and appreciate the pictures and the different floors. Free Wi-Fi! TV worked fine. Although we didn't find the ice machine until our second day there, ha! I read reviews about the noise from the young kids at the bars, I heard them maybe once. We were on the third floor with our balcony towards the veranda not the street though. We would stay there again and again!
Valet was $30/night. Driving to the hotel while the nightlife in the Gas Lamp District is happening was a bit tricky. The long lines to all the bars were crazy. I'm glad we weren't there to bar hop. Those days are over for us. We're a couple who likes to explore and appreciate history.
This hotel is beautiful from the gorgeous staircase to the beautiful rooms and courtyard located in the best area of the Gas Lamp District . My husband and I stayed in a grand room which I'd highly recommend. It has lots of living space, FP, small fridge, microwave and definitely ask for a balcony with seating (some are just a stand-up balcony). We had a visit from two spirits (a male and a female) so yes, we can stay it is truly haunted!! We highly recommend this hotel. It's a little pricey but so worth it!
Construction was underway in the Lobby/Registration area but was not noisy. Just could not totally enjoy the beauty of that area.
Great location in Gas Lamp Quarter. Historic hotel with character- a nice alternative to the high-rise hotels near the conference centre. Loads of bars and restaurants nearby. Valet parking, but unlimited collections, and very efficient. "Grand" room large and small kitchen area- but beware if sleeping 4...
We stayed in a "Grand" room, advertised as sleeping 4- unfortunately for the children the second bed was a sofa bed with a very thin uncomfortable mattress.
I love the quaint quietness of the hotel and that it was in the perfect location for our conference.
The wifi was very weak and could not be connected to in the evenings.
