Hostelling International Chicago was opened in October 2000 after a complete renovation of a historic 1886 brick building. The original timber can still be seen in the ceiling on the 2nd floor. This building housed a plate glass window manufacturer, Encyclopedia Brittanica printing presses, City of Chicago offices and a large hot dog stand before becoming our beautiful hostel. Not only do we welcome travelers from all around the world, we also work with local students to teach them about culture and travel.

On third floor above lounge and could hear the activities there till 11pm.
Location is amazing. And price for area is great
Since we were new in the US, we didn't have any concrete idea about taxes and levies. That was a surprise for us but still we don't have any complain. The front desk stuff were friendly but they might need a bit workout on their politeness.
This is our first trip to Chicago and my wife loved it. We have got married last year. We were under budget so looked for a cheaper place to stay. Although it was not as cheap as we could stay in Europe, it surpassed all our expectations. Room was clean, food was good and the location was outstanding.
Just one wish: to put on the website in a few places that you should bring your own lock for the lockers. It is expensive to buy one there!
This hostel is perfectly located for a trip downtown. Discounted parking right down the street was great, and overall was a great option for us to attend a concert at The Auditorium Theatre. Would definitely stay again!
I've seen many hostels in my life but this was one of the best!super good central in downtown chicago, easily to find.comfortable beds, free wifi and the breakfast was just GREAT(especially orange juice, oatmeal and croissants)!!!
The only thing I didn't like was the location. Since I didnt drive I had to walk about 5 blocks north on Wabash at 8 am & back at 10 pm. I didn't feel very safe.
I liked the facility, cleanliness the room etc. the breakfast was generous & tasty & the friendliness of the staff.
A little dark and lonely outside by the night (but so is Chicago)
Big and clean Elevators to get your stuff to your room Common area is very cozy Staff is super helpful, lots of info on where to go, plus great activities are organized inside the hostel Close to everything, I could go everywhere walking
The location was perfect especially for the price. But beyond that my room had a spectacular view and was kept very clean and the shared bathroom was cleaned daily!
Location, breakfast, stuff, internal organization - excellent!
the hostel is very clean and its location is awesome that you can walk to most tourist attractions. The front desk staff was nice and gave us advices. I think it is one of the best choice for accommodation if travel in Chicago especially for students and youngsters. We are satisfied about this hostel.
The entrance is inconspicuous. You may need a lock for your room storage.
Good price, friendly staff, free breakfast, great location.
The location was very good because you can browse the millenium park and art institute of chicago, shedd aquarium and so on comfortably within 1 hour. And also willis tower is close from there and so many good restaurants and shops are nearby. Also the breakfast was good and the bed was comfortable, except a noisy sound of trains all night.
breakfast was for free but kinda disappointing. Not that much offer..I only had breakfast twice at the hostel, the other 5 days I went eating outside
rooms were so clean! wifi was super fast! bed was incredibly comfortable.. I enjoyed my stay
The stuff was just wonderful and extremely helpful:)!
The bed could be better
Good Price Confortable Clean Good Localization Easy Access
The key to the door did not function 3 DAYS IN THE ROW which was a pain. they repaired it in the end byt we got no apology
The beds were comfortable and lockers big
Freindly staff, friendly other room members, great location, clean rooms, and excellent breakfast.
The location is fantastic and the facility far exceeded my expectations.
Bed, breakfast, location...Everything!
You could be as private or join in group for discussions which I did both. I am a senior and was well received and met other seniors as well. It was like meeting with the world. Canada, south Korea, China and Pa. of US
Loved the location to the L and lots of restaurant options in the area. Room was nice and clean.
No private bathroom and lavatory. The rest just fine.
I just loved HI Chicago Hostel! The location is just perfect. You even do not need to take transportation to go to must see in Chicago, you can get by walking and explore the city, the Millennium park is in 10 min walk. So glad had an opportunity to stay in that hostel. Also you can meet a lot of international people and it is a good opportunity to make new friends! If you are planning trip to Chicago I highly recommend HI Chicago Hostel! Do not hesitate, go ahead!
