The staff where amazing
The location is in the heart of downtown. The rooms and bathrooms were clean. There was a window air conditioner in my room and a (weak) blow dryer in the bathroom. Each bathroom was a one person facility so you have privacy. There was a large flat screen tv and a couch but more importantly for me there were two free computers for public use and free wifi. Plus they give you sheets and towels for no extra charge. I did not eat there so I can't vouch for the food. The staff was knowledgeable and courteous. They helped me with directions around town. It is an adequate lodging given the very low price point.
great location within the gaslamp quarter.Great base for most excursions.
Really bad bed had me getting neckaches for the duration of my stay
Staff were very friendly & helpful. Fantastic kitchen with spices available, plenty pots, pans & containers for food.
Toaster & hot water filter broken & not replaced or removed when I told staff. TV poor connection & unable to was rich
no wardrobe for clothes no TV no coffee facilities in the room
The hostel had great amenities, most of the staff were friendly and helpful, it was in a great location and the bed was comfortable
As the hostel is on the Main Street it is extremely loud on Fridays and saturdays. It doesn't help that the airconditioning unit installed is out of the bottom of the window making it even louder. They provide you with a refrigerator in your room but you aren't allowed food or drink out of the kitchen?? The breakfast is terrible.
The location is awesome with easy access to a lot of tourist attractions and restaurants. The slip of road guide is very thoughtful.
The window in the room could not be opened. the smell of smoke lingered in the room.
Nice Kitchen. Free coffee and tea at all hours (no herbal tea so bring your own). Fridge in room. Nicely furnished room. Comfortable bed. Staff EXTREMELY helpful, especially with directions and restaurant recommendations. They happily store luggage after checkout. Location very convenient for convention center.
Can be noisy. It is an old building with hardwood floors. Street noise on some sides of building. Air conditioning and ear plugs (supplied by front desk on request) helped. Breakfast hours didn't work for me as I was going to a conference that started at 7am but there is a large drug store and a very large supermarket nearby and helpful staff did offer to give me some instant oatmeal to make in the morning. No late check-outs granted--not even half an hour! They can't possibly clean all the rooms at the same time.
Great Location, downtown in the gaslamp district. Nice Facilities (lots of showers, a very well kept pool table)
No individual lights of plugs in the dorm.
This is one of the best HI that I've already been. They put my family (we haven't ask for it) in a quiet room (304) because our baby (4m old) was traveling with us. Location is amazing. Close to the main restaurants and attractions.
I think the price was a bit salty but nothing too high.
Location was perfect, staff was very friendly, all the accommodations are perfect. Price was more than fair for a private room that comfortable.
We had a room directly on Market street so it was loud at night (even on a normal wednesday of october...up until 2 AM) and even with earplugs. If you have a light sleep, this might not be the place for you.
I was in San Diego for a congress. This Hostel was perfect for my needs.
First night with a stink man in the room.
Free breakfast was very good! Bathroom was clean and I don't have any problem to use. Location was good. It is very near around train. Most of all, client service was perfact! I asked stupid question and bothered her, but she smiled and helped me.
Because it is in downtown, at the night there was very noisy. Actually I don't have any problem becuase I'm heavy sleeper.
- friendly staff - clean - good beds ( for a hostel of course) - a good and big kitchen - ATM in the lobby
- it's in the middle of downtown, so with the windows facing the street, of course it's really loud the whole night.
Location Staff Safety
It is in the heart of the downtown. Helpful staff.
A bit expensive for a youth hostel. Breakfast could be better.
we had a single room. it was nice. the streets are incredible loud but if you want to party that is the perfect location!!! great staff
attention to art and all accessories the hotel has. Common kitchen for everyone in the 3rd floor. Breakfast is available there. Seams very hip
Wash your own dishes :( The actual state of the building, paint and windows. It looks like it has not been modernized for 30-40 years. However the accessories on top and the nice IKEA furniture make it feel modern. Bugs in the bathroom.
Excellent location for walking to any kind of restaurant or bar, literally dozens within 3 to 4 blocks. Only a few blocks to Petco Stadium. At the dead center of Gaslamp District. Our double bunk room was small, but clean and had a sink and 3 fans (in window, ceiling, and boIx). We slept under the sheets, it was fine. We were able to keep our bicycles in our room, really appreciated that. Front desk folks were always cheery and helpful.
More bathrooms would be nice on 2nd floor, and stairs up would be quicker many times, rather than waiting for the slow elevator.
The staff is friendly, specially the cleaning people.
No friendly athmosphere (interactive), not good activities/parties (no one was in the manage pool/game night), the mattress was terrible and the dorm hot and sunny at the morning. The breakfast is poor. I love Hi Hostels but this one i want to forget. Maybe you can go to Santa Monica and learn something with your partners.
The location is great, right on the middle of the gaslamp district
The noise! Room was facing the street and with no double glazing you heard everything! Including people leaving bars at night and early morning deliveries
Location Amability of the staff
I needed to iron my vest by 6,30 am but the iron room was closed
Nice hostel witha greta design of the common areas, clean bathrooms, very helpful staff and a nice breakfast included, you cannot ask more for that price!
(forgot my earplugs, normally I always bring them when staying in dorms, one never knows! but it is nto the hostel's fault, just mine)
