눉First, there was a significant problem with the ar conditioner. The tempеrаture was really comfortable, but the device started to work very noisy several times a night. And there was no way to turn it off. Moreover, the metal louvre-boards on the airhole started to buzz annoyingly each time the air conditioner started up. I managed to cease the buzz plugging some leaflets between top and bottom of the buzzuling plates and the airhole edge, but it didn't, of course, fix the problem with the conditioner's noise. Just had to deal with it.
Second, the bed was very squeaky! A slightest movement on it resulted in a loud squeak. Very uncomfortable.
Third, the water faucet in the restroom. It poured water for some time only after pressing (intensively) on the hot/cold water buttons, so one had to repeat it several times during the usual teeth brushing or hands washing. So using faucet was a bit of a pain in the neck.
Fourth, the room keycards. They were always breaking down, so I had to go down to the lobby to have them reprogrammed three times during my 5-day stay. Not a big deal, unless you are in a hurry and you can't get into your room, and the elevator was too slow.
In general, we got used to this inconveniences, but obviously the water faucet and air conditioner problems are something that one can't just not notice. Frankly speaking, if I'm lucky to visit DC one day again, I'll try to find something else in the same location for the same money, and only if I fail, I'll stay in HI hostel once again.
눇Actually it's rather obvious that this place is perfectly situated. 5 min to either of two central metro stations (McPhersons sq / Metro center) nearby. Close proximity to the White House. A $1 city bus (DC circulator) stop is also very close. And to crown all that, a decent indian-Pakistani eatery is in the next building. So, the hostel's location is comfortable beyond belief.
Inside the hostel, i.e. in the restroom, everything appeared to be very clean, something that you wouldn't expect from such a populated place. Nevertheless, no complaints.
The breakfast provided was rather simple and, frankly speaking, not that healthy. But, of course, one shouldn't have expected something that's more appropriate for a 5-star hotel. A variety of bagels, cereals, toasts; for them one cold find peanut butter, cream cheese or berry jam. There were toasters and microwave owens, too. Unlimited freshly brewed coffee, milk, orange juice. It's permitted to bring your own food, and moreover, there was a fridge provided to keep it until checkout.
Both at the kitchen and at the lobby there were a free hand sanitizer and a free pipe with clean non-tap water, which could be used to fill a bottle to go. So the travellers were well thought of! At the lobby one could also find feee bananas, discount vouchers for local eateries (they worked, actually) and free earplugs.
The hostel did not charge me after showing them Hostelling international membership card that I had bought in Moscow in advance. Therefore I saved a big deal of money, 'cause in Moscow I bought the card for like $5, the price in the hostel was like $25, and fare for one night per person without this membership card was like $3.
The room was clean and tidy, with enough space to place two big suitcases. I liked the precense of phone-chargers with USB-input, so no US-outlet adapter was needed (a cord only).
