Score from 310 reviews Good
Staff, location, cleanliness and kitchen.
light in the hallway at night is too too bright...sometimes i need to go to bathroom at night...i think dimmer light is healthier for eyes and more economical for hostel ...
breakfast included..clean bed..quite..clean bathroom..
location lockers laundry room rooms
I was asked to change the room after the first night due to administration reason which I don't really understand.
Clean hostel in a good area Breakfast was nice. Wifi was a bit slow.
noise from the pan(or AC) in the room,,because my bed was just facing it. it starts regularly.
clean room, quite, organized system
The Courteous Staffers and good breakfast arrangements. The location which connects to all important locations easily.
I am sure it was just a one off but the hostel couldn't shut off the heating. It was like a sauna even with all of the windows open and that heating thing in the room that my bed was unfortunately positioned against was soooo noisy. It repeatedly came on every 15 to 30 minutes sounding like an aircraft taking off. Needless to say I didn't have a good night's sleep. The staff apologised and explained they couldn't do anything about it and that they had a call-out for a maintenance guy. I probably wouldn't have mentioned that the bed was not overly comfortable - could feel a few springs but the dehydrating heat emphasised it more as I lay awake trying to sleep!
Staff v helpful. Location great. Just what I expect a hostel to be and great value for money - breakfast is good
While overall a good experience, some details didn't work well for me. I needed breakfast by 6:15 am to get where I was going, so I missed out. Outlet on reading light didn't seem to work to charge phone. Bed a bit on the hard side. Difficulty climbing to top bunk (I'm age 68!)--could request for bottom bunk be on web site?
Very clean, including sheets & towels, friendly staff, easy to come & go, reading light over bed meant roommates didn't need to keep room light on late at night.
We booked the hostel through booking, however I wrote directly to the hostel to ask for an ensuite room which the confirm. When we arrived to the hostel we had shared bathroom because they messed up our reservation. Advice: modify your reservatio with Booking, not directly.
The location of this hostel is perfect, you´re walking distance from the main places, is surrouded by nice pubs and it´s close to metro stations. Price is great, place is friendly and very clean.
The only slight withdraw is that there is only one elevator for the 7 or 8 floors of hostel. Not a big deal, just have to wait a little longer for elevator to get to you.
I liked the staff, breakfast, location, cleanliness
cleanliness, bed quality, locker is not straight forward, you have to go up and down for things that could be "simpler"
Friendly staff, good common area, awesome location
This was my first hostel experience, and I wouldn't change a thing! Although this is not a "party hostel" by any means, it was in a very safe and nice (hotel across the street was 450$/night) area of DC. Walking distance to food, bars, and tourist attractions. The lady at the front desk was more than helpful with this being our first time in DC. The only downfall I had at this particular hostel was that children under the age of 18 are allowed. We were staying on a full hallway of high schoolers. They were not loud or disruptive, just rather annoying. All in all it was a great first experience and I was stay with HI again in the future and reccomend it to a friend.
The bed is very bed. I slept on upper bunk and it felt like I was sinking down...
This hostel provides very good privacy and quietness. Every two beds in a large room are separated into a small block, like a tiny room.
I am not sure if the blankets are sufficient though.
The kitchen Chef! He is a great guy who is very social and keeps the vibe going .
The public bathroom (first floor by sitting area) should be cleaned more often. Elevator was out, so it was very difficult to go up the narrow stairway with luggage, especially for those on higher floors.
Comfortable room, clean shared bath, with hot shower. Very good wifi. Free tea, coffee, and bananas all day long. Definitely will stay again!
At first I was given a room with a ventilator that there was obviously something wrong with, as not only did it make noise constantly but every couple of minutes it made so much noise it felt like you were in a factory or something. Impossible to sleep. Luckily I was given another room. Very basic breakfast.
The staff was great. They changed my room after I complained about the noise. The location is quite central.
The bed was quite uncomfortable.
Great hostel, friendly staff, great location, great tours!
Room turned out to be rather noisy Beds rather small for a taller (185cm) person Use of computers and printing in the lobby pretty expensive
Very good location - around 10 minutes on foot from the city centre Free all-you-can-eat breakfast Very helpful staff Cool live music in the lobby
The bed was uncomfortable and too short for me (I'm 6'4" & 1/2). They let people check in very late, and that woke me up (about 12:30). I only slept about 4 hours and intermittently. Earplugs helped a little.
Price, kitchen, and staff were all good.
The elevator was down for a night, but fortunately I lived on the 4th floor and it was not that bad to climb up. The shower and bathroom places are good but super clean that might be a problem for most of the hostels though. Also I lived in a coed-bedroom for the first night and I found a piece of course hair under my blanket.....CHECK YOUR BUNK BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP.... The heater was super warm and loud during the night, which bothers me. WIFI not fast, I decided to use my data at last. No hard boiled eggs for breakfast. ugh...
Staffs are helpful all the time and they will even give out coupons for some museums. Also the common area in the lobby and the second floor kitchen is well designed; also clean and neat. Met some cool people and had some enjoyable conversations in the hostel. Location is nice, about 15min walk to Chinatown and downtown(where some museums are located and there are many shopping stores including Forever21, HM, Zara, GAP, American Apparel etc). About 20min walk to the White House area. I rent a Capital Bike, which has a station right outside the hostel and it took me 5min to the White House. You can check out early and leave your suitcase at the basement and it will be $4 a day. Free bananas everyday at the front desk.
Well, their elevator was under renovation while I was there, so had to pull my luggage to the 4th floor. Still, no complaints as they had already shared this information while I was booking...
HI's location is what makes it stand out from its peers, followed by the most competitive price. The staff is too helpful, every person at the counter knows dc inside out and actually explain tourists on how to explore (both, of feet & on wheels). I was even lucky to attend free Acoustic Guitar Sessions. The Kitchen is quite spacious too. I was there for two days and I seriously wish I could have extended my stay with them! Thank you Team hi.
So cold in the room. Heat didn't go through different side of the room. Sink water saver system time is too short.
Nice staffs and good location
this is hostel as it is
location is great
room is a bit small but acceptable.
location and staff
For a 10-bed dorm, I expect the price to be cheaper.
Location is really good. Good breakfast.
