The kitchen Chef! He is a great guy who is very social and keeps the vibe going .
I am not sure if the blankets are sufficient though.
The staff was great. They changed my room after I complained about the noise. The location is quite central.
At first I was given a room with a ventilator that there was obviously something wrong with, as not only did it make noise constantly but every couple of minutes it made so much noise it felt like you were in a factory or something. Impossible to sleep. Luckily I was given another room. Very basic breakfast.
Great hostel, friendly staff, great location, great tours!
The bed was quite uncomfortable.
Very good location - around 10 minutes on foot from the city centre Free all-you-can-eat breakfast Very helpful staff Cool live music in the lobby
Room turned out to be rather noisy Beds rather small for a taller (185cm) person Use of computers and printing in the lobby pretty expensive
Price, kitchen, and staff were all good.
The bed was uncomfortable and too short for me (I'm 6'4" & 1/2). They let people check in very late, and that woke me up (about 12:30). I only slept about 4 hours and intermittently. Earplugs helped a little.
Staffs are helpful all the time and they will even give out coupons for some museums. Also the common area in the lobby and the second floor kitchen is well designed; also clean and neat. Met some cool people and had some enjoyable conversations in the hostel. Location is nice, about 15min walk to Chinatown and downtown(where some museums are located and there are many shopping stores including Forever21, HM, Zara, GAP, American Apparel etc). About 20min walk to the White House area. I rent a Capital Bike, which has a station right outside the hostel and it took me 5min to the White House. You can check out early and leave your suitcase at the basement and it will be $4 a day. Free bananas everyday at the front desk.
The elevator was down for a night, but fortunately I lived on the 4th floor and it was not that bad to climb up. The shower and bathroom places are good but super clean that might be a problem for most of the hostels though. Also I lived in a coed-bedroom for the first night and I found a piece of course hair under my blanket.....CHECK YOUR BUNK BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP.... The heater was super warm and loud during the night, which bothers me. WIFI not fast, I decided to use my data at last. No hard boiled eggs for breakfast. ugh...
HI's location is what makes it stand out from its peers, followed by the most competitive price. The staff is too helpful, every person at the counter knows dc inside out and actually explain tourists on how to explore (both, of feet & on wheels). I was even lucky to attend free Acoustic Guitar Sessions. The Kitchen is quite spacious too. I was there for two days and I seriously wish I could have extended my stay with them! Thank you Team hi.
Well, their elevator was under renovation while I was there, so had to pull my luggage to the 4th floor. Still, no complaints as they had already shared this information while I was booking...
Nice staffs and good location
So cold in the room. Heat didn't go through different side of the room. Sink water saver system time is too short.
location is great
this is hostel as it is
location and staff
room is a bit small but acceptable.
Location is really good. Good breakfast.
For a 10-bed dorm, I expect the price to be cheaper.
Really friendly staff, Kitchen for own use & free Tea, Coffee and bananas all the time! Good Wifi connection, Good breakfast! Activitys for free time (pooltabel, tv, computers, instuments...) & free events depending on day (tours, karaoke..) I loved it and made so many new friends.
I liked the clean, warm and best area location of Hostel, that is best for money. Staff is very friendly. Good free food and free wifi adds in its plus points. Always the morning time warm welcome of John in kitchen.
Location No alcohol allowed Pretty quiet Breakfast
Some bathroom are very cold They are not flexible when you extend your stay, they ask you to change room because someone is coming but the rooms are almost empty, so anyway you have to check out at 11:00 AM and check in at 3:00 PM even if you stay in the Hostel. Luguage storage 4 dollars Iron Bunk bed pretty Noisy
1. the price 2. the staff 3. the staff's ability to problem solve and help the traveler with an alarm clock, directions etc etc etc 4. the new paint job
Next time that I come may I volunteer to work on your bathroom sinks so that they run faster? The dirty water leaves the sinks so slowly that it leaves a mess in the bowl. I believe it is because the overflow drain is clogged and does not allow air through as the water tries to exit. Would love to fix it!
Kind dining staff
No elevator even my room was on 6 floor. The worst facilities where i have stayed
I used to stay here when I first backpacking to Washington DC area in mid-1990s, so there is some sentimental value for me. The location is good and considering how pricey DC accommodation is (even in frozen late January), the price of this place is also a relative bargain.
The facilities are quite old, the space is quite tight. At my second stay in January, the elevator wasn't even working. I had to climb up to my room on 5th floor (which is okay for me, but may be tiring for many other guests) The dining area is nicely arranged but very crowded in morning "rush hour."
Hostel is in good location to walk or catch train to museums. I stayed in private room and it was great. Overall it is very simple, building is old and is currently being renovated (lift not working which was a bummer, however I was told at time of booking and a safe member helped me carry my suitcase to the 6th floor). Until renovations are finished this place is clean, safe and well located but don't expect any other bells and whistles. great potential though and I enjoyed my stay. Went on one tour/activity with other hostellers and our guide was fantastic and it was a lot of fun!
Just having come from Hostelling International Boston, this was a massive step down despite prices being on par, but thats because Boston is brand spanking new. I believe Washington is renovating and it should be great once it is all finished! Only minor complaints were - staff guy at breakfast is extrememly in your face and loud. It didn't bother me most of the time, but one morning I was just not in the mood to be forced to talk to people so I took breakfast back to my room - internet wouldn't work (time out) from about 5pm in the afternoon for the rest of the evening. All other times it was fine.
low price good location I really love the kitchen A warm atmosphere
During my stay the elevator was out of service and I should bring all my luggage to the forth floor and it was terrible
staff not very welcoming noise from other rooms even during midnight
Slow wifi, squeeky beds, cold shower room and water
The washroom is pretty clean. The breakfast has multiple choices.
The breakfast run out pretty fast, but resupply didn't keep up. When the elevator was not working, it would be more thoughtful if they could provide free storage for big luggage.
The whole thing. I had a great stay in this hostel. The staff is great especially John, the breakfast attendant.
Elevator is under renovation.
