This hotel is one of the few classics still left. Untouched in so many ways but updated enough to meet today's needs of catering / banquet operations etc. The space of the hotel is winding, mystical & just beautiful !! The brunch / breakfast was amazing !!
The path to the hotel is very confusing. The GPS even was confused. If I had listened to the devise I would have ended up in a railroad yard. And the parking is so far away that it is virtually impossible to self park. So you HAVE to valet. But that's the worst I could find.
Stunning lobby! Personable staff. Beautiful entry/access. Spacious room. Marvelous light from windows. Superb window treatments. Delicious 'continental' breakfast with more than enough to qualify for full breakfast - fabulous fruit salad. Substantial room credit for shower that overflowed. Huge HD TV. EZ access wifi.
That I had to leave?
Overall nice, just not 5 star. Room was clean and bed was very comfortable. Staff were polite, but didn't seem genuinely pleased to see me. The exception was the bartender at their restaurant, she was very nice.
TV was too small considering how far it was from the bed. It was a struggle to find out about and then locate the complimentary coffee they offered in the morning. If they didn't want to offer it then they should just not have it, but if it s there then make it know and able to be found. Also the expensive burger I had at their bar was horrible. The meat tasted bad, gristly and as if they added a lot of filler to boot. And they had me add parking to my bill, but when we left everyone was driving out without having to pay.
Loved the shuttle!
Paying to park got an overpriced room. Also the older gray haired man in The Pine Room could be a little nicer. He's very grumpy. :(
When I checked in the staff didn't eve have the common sense to tell me what room I was in. Instead she handed me my room keys and said that the number was on the jacket. The room had several problems - 1) Very stale 2) Heavy condensation on the windows 3) Shower had hairs on wall 4) A pillow had hairs on it At check out the clerk never asked us how our stay was. Will not use this hotel again.
Told I'd be able to book a second nite when I checked in. The next morning, was told the hotel was filled. Looked in the dining room and it didn't seem too lively.
We had a Queen room. We tried to upgrade but nothing was available. The room was much too small and the bed was full size, not Queen. I loved the hotel but would not stay there again unless a larger room was available.
Good buffet breakfast included in room rate
The hotel was very nice in appearance and the hotel staff helpful. Breakfast in the Pine Room was well done.
I hate dirty water pooling around my ankles while showering. Gross!
The size of the place The excellent room we had The excellent and efficient staff at the desk The very good breakfast The very central position and easy access to restaurant
Having to pay parking charges-could be offered to hotel clients
The hotel was imposing and had the feel of a 5* establishment, but the price was very reasonable for the standard.
Everything about this hotel was great from the staff, the restaurant and the room. The nightly rate was extremely reasonable. It was definitely the best value for money hotel we stayed in.
lovely old charm in a excellnt position valet parking very cheap for american hotel would visit again
As a Roanoke native I have to say that Va Tech and Hilton has done a fabulous job at restoring this grand dame. Lobby and bar and Resto screams of days gone by as it should. Service was fabulous and we will stay there again soon. Very convenient to festivities in Downtown.
Not much I did not like, the toilet paper roll was very awkwardly situated on the vanity rather than the wall and we found it annoying, lol!
The facility is spacious, with fine interior design and lovely appointments. The guest room is quiet and comfortable, though relatively small compared to today's suite rooms. The outdoor pool and spa are very pleasant.
$8 self parking in a huge outside lot down the hill. If they have the space and one is "self parking", it's a bit of an affront to charge for it.
The staff, namely Susan (concierge), Jacob and Nick (shuttle drivers) and Julian (maintenance/ setup and take down) were extremely friendly and helpful, willing to go out their way to be prompt and take the extra step for customer satisfaction. Restaurant waiters were efficient and friendly. (I didn't remember their names, but I ate in the bar and grill on Tuesday evening.) The waitress's suggestion to try the key lime pie persuaded me to order it. The pie was an amazing burst of flavor and texture! So, compliments to the cooks as well. The whole Hotel experience was a delightful appreciation of the past, like a museum experience I will remember fondly! Thank you!
I did have a visitor in room 70. A rather large moth flitted around for an evening and then in the morning. Wasn't able to reach it, as it was rather fast or rather I was too slow. (I hope it didn't have babies, as it was quite large.)
I love the hotel itself, the courtesy of the staff members, and the comfort of the room, even though we had trouble with the air conditioner the entire stay.
The amount of money that had to be spent for the food. We had to go to the golden coral for breakfast because we couldn't afford it. The air conditioner wouldn't work the entire stay.
Lovely old fashioned hotel that was easily accesible from town. Check-in was very easy and all staff very helpful. Breakfast (included in rate)was great, excellent selection and plety of it!
Bedroom was a little on the small side but perfectly adequate.
The rooms and the ambience of the hotel were fantastic. It's a great old hotel, my kids and I spent the evening wandering the historic halls. We really enjoyed it! Great location, easy walk to downtown for a meal.
Its a little pricey for the area, but well worth the experience!
I love the feeling and atmosphere of the place. The valets were very helpful to our situation.
I wouldn't recommend this place for someone traveling with a trailer because parking is precarious.
We liked the hotel but bath sooo small!!! Also roach in bath!!
Beautiful building and grounds. We arrived late and left early and weren't able to get to use many of the facilities such as pool and work out room, though the hotel had many amenities.
Requested upper floor, was put on ground floor, no view except backs of bushes.
Ambiance and views, also staff
pillows on bed were horrible
Very comfortable stay with excellent facilities and service
The charm and ambiance.
The room neded a face lift and safety bars in the bathroom .
