Score from 30 reviews Very good
The lobby looked nice. Easy to access. Quiet.
The maintenance of the room and bed was poor. Electrical extension cords all over. The hvac unit was pushbutton from the 60s and smelled bad when the heat was turned on (difficulty with the switches and knob was dicey.) Noisy when on. Couldn't sleep with the noise. If you wanted to sleep, the bed was old spring mattress that sagged and jiggled with every movement. Back aches were the reward. The "breakfast" was a s good as the bed. We ate out. Shower head and valve were worn out. It felt like they gave us the worst room in the place. A "no smoking" hotel and the carpet smelled of deodorant to hide the previous "smoking" room.
Price and quality
Breakfast was lousy
I always stay here while I'm in Helena. I wouldn't stay any where else
Heater was terribly noisy as well as the fan in the bath. Bed should have been replaced long ago. Bedspread had many stains showing on the underside.
The front desk staff, Shelly and Tim were great. Considering there were about 4 rooms taken in the whole place, it was very quiet! Clean sheets thank heavens!
housekeeping was dreadful. Dust on the molding, no coffee/creamer/cups replaced if you were staying an additional night. The "mold" in the bathroom was just crevasses of missing grout. This place is falling apart. Towels were stained and threadbare.
There are waffle machines.
Room was dingy. Found candy wrappers in the floor. The staff needs a dress code and a little ettiquete training. Very nice, just a little lacking in apperance . She showed up to my room with extra pillows and a cig in hand. Remote control was taped together, room smelt bad.
Good room, elevator for upper floors
Location good. Parking close by to entrance. Staff friendly.
When we first arrived, internet wasn't connecting & got told it was down, after taking laptop to front desk to ask girl what we were doing wrong. After that, it only worked when we held laptop in front of window, & used the hotel next door's wifi!!!!!! And this was even sporadic at best! This was very upsetting to us; we did not have our cell phones with us & were counting on the internet to communicate with our families back home. Towels & facecloths & bathmat seemed to be in short supply. Gave us 1 facecloth, 1 hand towel & no bathmat! The whole hotel seems to be in need of a makeover-- front entrance not appealing with the rug looking shabby.
The hot tub/pool were great after a long day driving
Breakfast room - not particularly well laid out.
It was a dump
Hotel is outdated and appears in need of a major renovation to fall in line with other Howard Johnson facilities.
The staff was friendly. and I liked the location.
The hotel was very run down with old furnishings. The bathrooms were outdated. I cannot understand how this is a four star hotel.
new paint, Older but solid wood furniture, new bathroom fixtures very nice looking.
It was rated as a 4 **** hotel by AMA Travel. Our bed was saggy, there were young guys hanging around the outside door drinking and talking loudly at 1 am. the entrance was littered with cigarette butts. It had an old box TV which you cannot even give away at garage sales these days
Staff was friendly and helpful.
Beds are poor. Drapes broken and dirty. No room make-up service on second day - had to ask for towels etc."Safe" and TBID" tax showed up on bill and never told about them.
The front end staff was unprofessional. They looked, talked, and acted like white trash. The room was smelly. The mattresses were old. The only thing new was the bathroom vanity. It wasn't enough to mask the rest of the room. A dreadful hotel.
Didn't like much of anything. It was a lot money for the dumpy run down place this was. We had a pillow case on one bed that was absolutely filthy looking and was all stained. The beds were lumpy and it felt like you were sleeping uphill. There were four of us and had to go get more towels as there were not enough in the room
Everything. The best part was when we left.
