Great location. Very close to the ferry terminal and easy access to main highway.

Lots of stairs. If you have any mobility issues make sure you stay on the main level. Breakfast area goes a little beyond cozy and approaches cramped. Parking is available on site but is tight.

location is quite close to greyhound bus station.

The building is quite old, stairs are narrow and dangerous(no lift). Bathroom is shared but the price doesn't really reflect this inconvenience. Plus the double bed size is too small to accommodate two adults.

Excellent price for what you get.

No lift, and staff do not take your luggage upstairs. Very narrow and winding stairs, difficult to manage if not fit.

We were upgraded due to a mistake on the staff's part. Myles provided us with awesome knowledge on Portland and made good suggestions!

All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent, and the parking was very convenient. The atmosphere was delightfully calm, quiet, cheerly, and beautifully appointed. The other guests were pleasant and kind, as well.

    Good location and friendly service

Shared bath was very small and shared with 5 other rooms. Steep stairs and no elevator to last floor!

Really a lovely little property with a wonderful staff.

The location is not great for those like me who prefer to experience a city on foot. While there are some nice restaurants next to the hotel, the radius of several blocks around the property have little pedestrian traffic and seem fairly sketchy. I don't know that it was unsafe but I would not have felt comfortable walking after dark.

Very cute hotel, the staff was super friendly, free parking, nice breakfast and good wifi!

Nothing really... Could be a bit more central (around 10-15 mins walk to various places)

I love this place, staff were so polite, nice and so helpful. They took very good care for everybody- homemade cookies, milk, soy milk, water any time, fruit at breakfast were great-premium orange, apple, ect. It's like you are at home, my mom's kitchen. thank you so much . We will be back soon.

If you are looking for a great place to stay that has character, this is the place. If you want a cookie-cutter, everything-looks-the-same hotel, the Sheraton or the Holiday Inn are a better bet.

I loved the simplicity of the hotel, the location and that it was just what we needed, nothing more. Great price.

    Nothing to mention

They let us keep our mt. bikes in the basement for safe storage. Very nice inside. Staff was friendly. Dinner was within walking distance.

Having to leave the room to use the bathroom. Room was very small kinda claustrophobic. The neighborhood was kinda sketchy. I'd be afraid of being robbed if hanging outside for too long.

The Inn at St John has a great ambience. Very personable and authentic. All the rooms I've stayed in here have been tastefully decorated and immaculate. Lots of thoughtful extras: bathroom toiletries, bathrobes, bottled water, cookies, tea and coffee... they do a lot to make your stay pleasant and comfortable. And it is!

This is not negative for me, it's positive but this is not a hotel for those who like the cookie cutter corporate hotel look.

Free parking, breakfast and Victorian atmosphere

Stairs are a bit too steep, but it's a 19th century building after all

I have stayed here before with no problems.

The bed bug that was on my arm at 5:00 am. I gave it to the front desk man. After work, I stopped at a laundry and washed all my clothes, purchased a new bag and toiletries. I feel they should have comped the room. Nice place but bad policy.

Wonderful place to stay! The staff are helpful, included are the following: parking, water bottles, continental breakfast, and cookies. The staff noticed I was carrying a lot of luggage so the offered to help bring it up the stairs for me. They had to move me to a different room the second night and moved my luggage for me! The place is very cute and the needs are comfy. They definitely try to accommodate their visitors as best they can. I will probably stay here again.

The shower in the shared bathroom was very tiny and the shower head did not point down far enough to get water on anything bit my head (I'm 5'6") but I managed. The place is like a maze with the stairs which is kind of fun but you might get lost for 30 seconds when trying to go to your room. It was a bit far from the center of town.

We liked the price of the room, the location of the hotel, and the great staff. Wonderful hotel in a great city.

The bathroom wasn't connected to our room, but it wasn't a surprise, it was well advertised when we booked the room.

Quaintness, interesting decor, cleanliness, friendliness, great location. Choices for a continental breakfast excellent. Great value.

No comfortable chairs in bedrooms. Bathroom too far away from room.

Amazing place, full of European Victorian character, and about the same price as the value motels. Stay here, it's awesome!

The Inn at St John sounded appealing on the website but the reality surpassed my high expectations. From the friendly welcome at Reception, to the helpful offer to carry my bag upstairs, to the spacious, clean and beautifully equipped room, everything was designed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. I appreciated the WiFi in my room and the generous breakfasts downstairs. The St John Inn was a great find in a wonderful town. To an Australian traveller, it offered exceptional value for money.
