The second level bedroom was very nice. We will recommend this property to all of our friends who have children.
No coffee making facilities in room. No chairs to sit on outside. Limited breakfast choices
Plenty of room we had 2 rooms on different floors both with queen beds. wonderful spot to photo Durango steam train.
location view of the mountain train was cool to wake up to
no hot tub no hairdryer 1 of the beds was sunk in window to upstairs room to dirty to see out of
LOVED the location of being in the back of the motel where there were picnic tables we could sit at and watch the train (steam train) go by! Room was cozy, liked the bi-level concept. Room was clean, beds done up nice, trolley stop was close by, great view of mountains from our room, staff very friendly,- just a refreshing "mom &pop" kinda place. Kind of out of the way but that's what made it feel so private.
Coffee for breakfast was really bad, luckily, we'd brought our own little coffee maker, no hot tub, they said the pool was heated but didn't feel very warm, other than that the place was great! Soul definitely stay there again.
Water was hot, staff was friendly and courteous. The free breakfast had adequate variety. It was nice and quiet and liked the multi level room. Great view of the mountain behind the hotel, the Silverton train runs right by the hotel.
the rooms were dimly lit and the mattresses are at least 10 years past their prime. some general maintenance needs to be done, but this was a nice quiet place to spend a couple of nights and close to a variety of restaurant about 10 minutes away
Good value for expensive town. Location outside of town, but with big bonus of seeing the Durango-Silverton train pass the hotel and even blow the whistle. Very nice view of mountains, peaceful setting. Durango seemed to have parking, so driving in would not be a big hassle. Room layout was fun and great for family or groups, not 100% private, but two TVs and two spaces. Room was clean. Nice pool and biggest Rainbow play system ever.
Breakfast room was very dirty and needs a staff person to supervise guests. Cereal, spilled coffee, waffle machine and/or batter issue, no one throwing out the milk containers (quarts, nice actually) now I know why the chains have staff during breakfast. Office staff seemed overworked, tired. Hotel is very large, may be overwhelming, lots of potential.
The rooms and pool.
The breakfast was very basic. No wifi in the room.
Location and beds
Upstairs hot, shower didn't drain
Bugs in my bed, the air conditioner did not cool the room.
We were disappointed with location. It was not where we were led to believe.
It is off the road so it feels quiet and a little secluded. Love that the trolley goes back and forth into town all the time so you don't have to drive if you don't want. Having the train go by is also pretty cool, especially with the mountains behind it.
Wish that there was some protein for breakfast. It was all carbs.
big room, breakfast, wifi
There was lots of room to spread out/ We had been traveling for a while so to have a loft room was terrific. It was quiet. the train was right behind the hotel which was fun to see a few times a day. The continental breakfast was nice and the eating area large. I went there every morning to do work because the wifi reached there.
With the exception of man who worked in the evening, who was great, the rest of the staff was pretty uninterested. I wish the wifi extended into the rooms.
Price and suite
I love how spacious the rooms are, with the bi-level floorplan. This was awesome with two teenagers! The onsite gameroom was an added bonus for them. It's hard to find hotels these days where you can pull right up to the door of your room and not sacrifice size. Most hotels that are one level have small rooms. It was really great to be able to spread out a little at such an affordable price (especially for the area). We had been traveling for two weeks across the country and this hotel was one of the best ones we stayed in for the price, space, and comfort (compared to other chain hotels in the mid price range). The bed sheets were so soft! Plus it included a pretty decent continental breakfast. Not bad for a little over a $100 a night.
There was no fan in the bathroom so everything in there got really wet (but only the tub and toilet are in there). We just kept the door partly open after discovering this with the first shower, so the steam could escape.
Nice rec. room and nice breakfast room
Barking dogs, no wi fi in room, Location.
Upstairs was hard to cool.
old, found a roach, bath room messy
Two floor suites
TV outdated, lobby/bar/restaurant no longer exists. Pool area now an outdoor facility, not as good as the old indoor unit.
The fact that our dogs could stay.
The person who checked me in charged me twice. The game room was closed.
The GREAT! First There was a Huge very well kept playground the kids absolutely loved. It was big enough for even Mom and Dad. (not recommended) There was a Very nice Indoor/Outdoor Pool slightly heated with a small kiddie side of 10 inches, and then increased up to 5 feet. Pool towels were easily available through the main office and the staff was very helpful and nice. The Beds were SO Very Comfortable, and the kids loved the little upstairs windows looking down on mom and dad. The train coming by the Hotel was the best. The boys got to see it up close in action and wave at all the passengers. They then looked forward to the next train passing the entire time. It may appear the train is a hindrance to the INN but it was not. It was barely noticeable. We only realized it was coming when the room door was open and the whistle blew announcing its arrival. Otherwise not too loud regardless of the proximity to the room. We were less than 10 minutes of town, very quiet, and relaxing. It was comforting to be able to let the kids play outside without fear of cars hitting them, etc. We will definitely stay there again. Loved IT!
There wasn't a whole lot about Iron Horse Inn we didn't like. We have 2 little energetic boys 4 and 6 that slept in the upstairs loft. That was fine, but there was no identifying features on the very steep stairs (ie. refective markings, dim lights) to assist them in the middle of the night when "duty" called. There was a handrail, yes but the last 3 steps were almost invisible when the handrail ran out. Next time we will probably bring our own battery powered night lights to ensure safety. The only other issues were a broken guard on the AC/Heater that Dad almost sliced himself on multiple times as it pointed up and out next to the narrow side of the bed. Otherwise AWESOME!
Its a nice place to stay. Rooms are nice and clean. There's a little park with a playground & basketball court. Lovely place to stay.
