Going to put in bay for wedding. Had stayed at your hotel twenty years ago. Upgraded to a condo...what a surprise. Love the dining room atmosphere. Bonus...the OSU marching band (Some of them) were staying at your hotel too. Talked to some of the band members. You made them feel at home too!!!! We will be back.
Excellent location and price. Clean, quaint, and near Sandusky and the island ferries
small rooms, but that's because it's an old building
I booked the Island House Hotel for a last-minute 2-night weekend trip. Even though it was freezing cold outside, we still had lots of fun at Rosie's (eating dinner there both nights, plus watching the OSU football game there Saturday afternoon). The bartender and waitress were exceptionally nice and accomodating, as were the people at the front desk, who provided us with a razor and even threw my husband's damp jeans in the dryer for him! This would be a GREAT place to stay in warm weather, and we will certainly return!!!
Good location with a small but charming room and bathroom.
The old musty elevator. marginal water pressure and the large bug that crawled across the ceiling until my partner killed it. Also the cold water cut out promptly ending an otherwise medium length shower.
Everything was awesome...I love the nostalgia of the hotel and that the only changes seem to be to give you human modern conveniences like a beautiful bathroom!
The rooms were a tad bit small if you are traveling more than solo. If you have a couple you may wish to ask for a suite.
Beautiful town and the people were very friendly. The hotel was as beautiful as well,Rosie's bar and grill was a excellent place to eat. Did not eat at the 1812 but it looked really nice. Our room was small but the bathroom was large and had a place for our luggage. We want to go back again and would like to stay here. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well. The hotel was in the middle of town and made it nice to be able to walk to places.
I only complaint we had was the room did not have a chair.
The bed was very comfortable. I slept amazingly well.
The room was very small, but that is too be expected in an older hotel.
We are frequent travelers and this was a wonderful departure from the chain hotels we usually stay at. We can hardly wait until we can return.
Cool old building, staff very friendly and accommodating.
1st room had ants but staff moved us immediately and even handled our luggage.
Location was fantastic. Plenty of restaurants and bars in walking distance. Clean room. Comfortable bed.
Small rooms, but adequate. Bigger rooms are available.
Loved the location of the hotel and the room was beautiful and clean. Nice Madison Ave Pub, Slaters across the street with great food. Short walk to the Jet Express. The staff was helpful and when I discovered I had left my E-tickets to Cedar point at home, I could use the guest laptop and printer to reprint them for free - lovely stay and lovely hotel!
That I had to go home
AS WE DROVE UP TO MADISON ST. WE WERE BOTH IMPRESSED WITH THE CURB APPEAL OF THE CENTURY BLDG. THE LOBBY AND BAR/RESTAURANT AREA WERE IMPRESSIVE AT FIRST SIGHT.
MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF A TRIP BACK IN TIME WERE DASHED ONCE WE ENTERED THE ELEVATOR,THE WALLS OF THE LIFT WERE DIRTY AND SCRATCHED,THE TILE FLOOR WAS PERIOD INCORRECT AND WORN, THEN WE GOT TO OUR ROOM, WHERE DO I START, THE CHEAP SLAB DOORS, THE WINDOWS WITH ITS POOR VIEW DUE TO A LEAKING SEAL THAT NOBODY CARED ENOUGH TO REPAIR,THE MISSING PULL CORD ON THE WINDOW WHICH WOULD HAVE ALLOWED VIEWING. THE POPCORN CEILING WITH ITS RAISED SEAM GLOWING AT US AND THE DOLLAR GENERAL CEILING FAN, THE THE REFRIDGERATOR AND STACKED MICRO WAVE/COFFEE MAKER AT THE END OF THE BED. THE CHEAP MIRRORS SCREWED ONTO THE WALL BETWEEN THE WINDOWS, THE PEDESTAL SINK AND SMALL SHOWER WITH NO PRESSURE AND THE FACT THAT WE HAD TO USE THE BED TO GET DRESSED BECAUSE THERE WAS NO COUNTER SPACE IN BATHROOM,TO SAY I WAS DISAPPOINTED WAS A VAST UNDERSTATEMENT AS WE WERE LED TO BELIEVE FROM REVIEWS ON LINE THAT THIS MOTEL WAS GOING TO BE A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE
Bed very comfortable.
No chair in the room.
Rosies restaurant had great food. Rooms were large and clean.
I like the historical aspect if the hotel. The location is excellent if you like small town and walking accessibility.
The rooms were a bit small but it is a historical hotel and that should be expected.
Located in historical Port Clinton, Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie, The Island House gives the traveler a feel of the golden years of travel, when real hotels had excellent restaurants and superb service. The rooms are very well maintained and clean.
Everything was fine.
When we walked in, we loved that it was an old, historical building, upgraded nicely and still keeping with the old charm and character. The room was on the small side but it very nicely done. The bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was nice. It was all very clean. The room was quiet. It was close to the Marblehead lighthouse. It has two restaurants within the hotel. And they are right in town so you can walk to most things. Close to fisherman's wharf. We had a great stay and would recommend The Island House to anyone.
Walking distance to river and lake. There was a small problem in my room, but the staff fixed it quickly to my satisfaction. Staff was excellent.
Could use some shelves in the bathroom.
Lack of value, small room, no bedside table or light, one of the two chairs in the room was broken, the window in the room faced a brick wall.
The diversity of the staff and other guests. Thanks, Jay and Gary
Very nice hotel and staff.
The bed was comfortable but we seemed to have trouble with the pillows.
The room was small, but it met our needs just fine. I hadn't read we needed to take a ferry to get over to Put in Bay...might have tried harder to stay over there. It was a fun side trip...our friends, however, ran out of time to ferry over with our 1 night stay. Port Clinton had slim pickings for attractions.
We both ordered the duck l'orange in the dining room. No veggies, just a bit of brown rice, and a WHOLE half a duck breast w/ bacon...we are used to slices of duck out East. Very surprising. Maybe the menu stated as such, but I still thought it meant slices. I felt like Fred Flintstone. :( Sadly, I passed on my salad to save room for my entree.
On site restaurant Friendly hotel front desk Quiet Clean Easy check in and out
The location is great for the Jet Express
The price is rather high
Clean, decorated room with nice bathroom, the history of the hotel and convience of the restraurant right there.
The bed was too soft for us but clean.
