The staff were excellent. My room had a great view. What a great hidden gem this is.
The upstairs bar was closed for a party.
Comfort and location
restaurants and bars had constant private parties
Good location. Small cozy hotel and fab restaurant if you didn't feel like going out.
staff and cleanliness
Great location, free wifi, cosy hotel.
The fact that the concierge's hours started at 11am on Sunday and ended early at night. Also, the hotel car is not available on weekends which doesn't make sense.
Amazing customer service from the moment you walk through the door. Staff was professional yet exhibited a warmth you rarely see at a boutique hotel. Great location, sexy yet comfortable ambiance and their attention to detail just added to what turned out to be an amazing experience.
Down to earth, hip, approachable, relaxed staff. Complementary wine, fruit and cheese. Gorgeous rooftop views. Vibrant surrounding neighborhood with lots to do.
Rooftop bar was crowded, occupancy of no more than a set number of people limited access to hotel guests. The rooms, while sleek and functional were smaller than what we expected.
The James is located between Tribeca and Soho making it a great hotel for the second time visitor to NYC looking to avoid the tourist hub of Times Square. The hotel is a smallish boutique hotel with friendly staff, (esp the bellman/concierge), good views and cool rooms. We had a corner king with views over the Financial District and the new Freedom Tower. The bed was very comfortable, and room minimalist but stylish with a brilliant wet room (shower). Free Wi-fi, pastries, wine and cheese in the lobby were great additional touches. It would be a perfect place to stay in summer with its rooftop pool and downstairs garden. The restaurant was very nice and worth trying (David Burke Kitchen). Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
We did mange to get into Jimmys rooftop bar, but it was closed for 2/3 nights which was disappointing. A seriously bad attitude from the bar staff, but amazing 360 degree views over Manhattan. In winter it meant the hotel offered few facilities, however the lobby was a great area to chill out in, albeit small. I can imagine the lower floors would get noisy if facing Canal St. We were on the 9th floor so ok.
Location was great. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel was very clean and well maintained.
The shower in the room had no power.
sleek, contemporary. would definitely recommend to others.
The staff was always helpful and friendly
the rooms need a little touch up.
Water in room Location sbs kitchen downstairs
Do not stAy on 17th floor the noise from staff carrying materials up and down the stairs from the bar is shocking unnecessary and disturbed sleep all 4 nights - even on a Monday. Stupid and bad practice by the hotel
The design and the location.
It is cold and housekeeping a bit rude.
good location, rooms quite large for NY standards, relatively good value for price (if this is the case in NY at all...), great view, good rooftop bar
AC too loud, only 2 elevators
Great location short walk to Soho shops and local restaurants
Rooms very small and for the price paid not quite at 5 star standard. There are better options for that price in NYC
Concierge staff go out of their way and are interested and personal in their delivery - whatever you like they can make it happen! Great room, shower, views, comfort, wi-fi. Good for a business traveller. And the view from the gym? Wow.
Why is there never a decent hairdryer?!
Great location and staff
Overpriced for three star type room
Great location Nice, competent staff Quiet and human-sized Comfortable rooms with nice views
Elevators are sometimes slow and quirky
Fantastic staff, morning coffee and nibbles in lobby, fruit and water in the afternoon, wine cheese and grapes from 6-8, courtesy car... I could go on but will just say highly recommended!!
Did book it for the roof Terrace and the only issue would be if that has been privately hired then you cannot access it. Saying that if that happens to you head to Toad Hall at 57 Grand!!!
Friendly staff, beautifully designed eco-friendly environment with excellent dining options. Rooftop bar and pool offer amazing views of the city. Highly recommended. We will be back.
The location is good, close to good stores and restaurants in Soho. Nice View! Veru close to subway (RED and BLUE lines) The Staff is very kind and helpful. The Wifi is very good!
The noise next to the pool! The elevators is too slow, because of the parties in the pool.
I liked the location, the rooms and the comfort of the bed. I also appreciated the complimentary triple filtered water.
I found some staff members to be quite unhelpful on more of the management level in regards to enquires for taxi's etc. E.g I tried to explain that I had organised for a driver who picked me up earlier to pick me up to go to the airport and when he didn't arrive the girl at the concierge desk said it was too late to book a hotel vehicle and was very unhelpful. When I was outside one of the male concierges asked about what I needed and said the hotel car was available immediately and explained the costs etc.
They upgraded our room and gave us champagne and strawberries as it was our 25th anniversary.....the little freebies of coffee, cakes, wine, cheese and cookies were great
Friendly & helpful staff. The location was right in Soho 1 block from the Canal street subway. Coffee in the lobby in the morning.
The bathroom door came off its roller track - my friend was trapped! They got her out. They worked on it - but it was still sticky so we didn't shut it all the way. The TV didn't work until they fixed it. They were Very quick to try and fix problems.
Location was fab, people excellent.
