I felt like home when I stay. I'd like to stay there if I have a chance to visit Big island.
Shared bath and shower! Had to have fans on all night, no air conditioning!
Cynthia was warm and accommodating. We needed to arrive late, have early breakfast and then leave our stuff for a few hours before checking out while we took a helicopter tour. She made all these work out with out stress for us.
The sound proofing was fairly non-existent and there are two separate couples checking out early - 4:30 and 5:30. So we go barely any sleep.
Staff was extremely helpful--making breakfasts to suit us, giving us great information about local attractions, and making accommodations for our late arrival. The guest room was comfortable, and the price was great.
The location was not that close to downtown or the ocean (maybe a 10 minute drive). Bathroom wasn't attached to the room, and is sometimes shared with other guests.
Cynthia (the owner) Location
very relaxed atmosphere. The four guest rooms on the main floor share two baths, a kitchen and a common room. There are a lot of things to do and see around Hilo---Cindy's suggestions and directions were all helpful. This was a comfortable, casual place to sleep after the day's activities.
Generally quiet neighborhood, but barking dogs in the early morning were annoying. Be aware that there is nothing within walking distance, but the drive to downtown is only about five minutes.
The bed was comfortable. We did quite a lot of hiking so it was important for us to have a comfortable bed. The welcoming atmosphere was nice, with Cynthia, the manager, helping us with good-to-knows. The communal breakfasts were nice, you got into chats with people, and a big plus for Cynthia's pancakes, they were awesome. It was also easy to come and go as you pleased.
Parking was a bit tight but not that big of an issue since we were all able to fit our cars on he lot anyway.
We were looking for a place last minute in the middle of the holiday season, and found this place, far and away the cheapest one we found. The value is fantastic, as the host provides a warm and social place. I like that the travelers you meet here are also low key people. Recommended!
Location was OK. Easy to get to and also close driving distance to restaurants, airport, etc.
The listing says they do not permit pets, however, you are essentially staying in part of someone's home and they do have pets. I had a strong reaction and couldn't stay overnight in this place. There was also a terrible and strong odor in the entry way (perhaps was cat urine?) Owner was not present at check-in. Wifi worked fine in the living room, but not well in the bedroom. The pictures did not accurately represent the property. It is much more cluttered and less clean than the pictures suggest. Booking was not helpful in resolving this issue. While their terms and conditions make clear that the proprietors can put up whatever they want, I would have thought that Booking would have some sort of due diligence process. My stay was originally processed as a "no show", even though I showed up. Processing my stay this way, meant that I couldn't leave a review of my experience. I had to specifically request that Booking change the status of my record, so I could write about my experience. I wonder if this practice of assigning "no show" inflated the rating of this place, as most people wouldn't go through the extra trouble to post about their experience. I would not recommend staying here, particularly if you are allergic to cats or dogs.
Good value for money. Close to the airport. Very social able place to stay
We thought the place was a bit dark and a bit rundown. The walls were thin too as you could hear everything
Cynthia was welcoming, helpful and cooked a good breakfast. Well located and generally quiet neighbourhood (except for New Years).
Shower was difficult to get hot water out of and pressure was poor. Dripping tap in the sink could be heard in our room. Just as well we had earplugs.
Very beautiful house, large room, very comfort, with all facilities you need and very very nice house owner!
It was a pleasure to talk every morning at breakfast with Cynthia. She gave us good advises for visiting the island.
Cynthia, the owner was very nice.
The facilities were lacking and I would give it one star.
The bed was very comfortable, the room was clean and restaurants were within walking distance.
The outside appearance
Staff meet us at check in said we had to be in by midnight. Facilities were durty. Spiers webs all over. Under beds and corner were never sweeped. Compforter on bed had a visible stain that wor ride us. One bed squiked alot. One bed in a room for 2 was to small. Kitchen facilities don't know never stayed for breakfast. Breakfast was toast and coffee and tangerine. Pretty sad. Never will recommend to stay there.
The neighborhood was so so but accessibility to necessities and the sights was great.
We booked a room with a shared bathroom, but Cynthia moved us to suite with a private bedroom. It was great, friendly stay with a nice chat opportunities during a delicious breakfast :)
Great staff, friendly and great advice. It was nice to chat with other travellers as well. Breakfast was yummy!
Poor quality washing facilities, old bathroom - took ages for hot water to start in the shower.
Shared bathroom with toilet for 3 rooms!!
- Cynthia is a really great host - it was nice to exchange with other travellers during breakfast - Excellent breakfast - Good location
Cynthia is a gracious host.
Owner was very friendly
Hilo was very Warm during our stay.Room is upstairs and should have a room air conditioer since the fans were drafty and inadequate. The Bathroom is old and rundown...Faucets didn't work & interior should be remodeled.
The host (Cynthia) is very kind and helpful. An ideal spot for meeting fellow travelers.
