Wasn't informed that could only use certain elevators to get to our room. The shower went from scalding hot to ice cold repeatedly very hard to shower. Wallpaper was in very poor condition.
For those going to Mayo clinic and find travel difficult, this is a great location and is included in the pedestrian "subway" with Mayo. The rooms are older but quaint. The bathroom is small
The front desk consistently had a long slow line in front of it. The receptionist didn't seem to understand English very well nor did she know how to operate the computer system. This resulted in me being overcharged for my room. Again since the line was so long, I just opted to leave rather than wait again
I liked that it was easy to find
The Kahler is an Institution in Rochester, mn, where it was built to serve patients traveling from all over the world to visit the Mayo Clinic. Now, the Clinic has grown, Rochester has grown, more hotels have grown... While technical advancements have "updated" the Kahler (...good!), unfortunately, the in the name of "diversity" the office staff has also been updated: But... (See my description under "What didn't you like" that follows. The office manager, a longtime Kahler employee, was helpful, kind, and understanding-- but she is one person. The bell staff, also old-time Rochester-and-vicinity natives, were hospitable, kind, helpful, and efficient. The general front desk reception personnel should watch them, learn from them, and come down from their high horse to help make the Kahler truly Grand once again.
The Front office Staff seem to completely not care about helping people or about taking serious consideration of their responsibilities to serve the Kahler. They should consider themselves privileged to work at such a fine place, and they should care about the Kahler reputation. Lines for both check in and check out were long and very poorly managed. The connection to the Mayo Clinic 's subway level was very convenient. We didn't have to move the vehicle the whole time we were there.
Location, restaurant, valet
No sound proof old bathroom
We spent quite a bit of time at Mayo several years ago and always stayed at the Kahler. We came back to Rochester for a fun trip and chose The Kahler because of the great accommodations we had before.
First time we had to pay for parking.
Proximity to Mayo
Lack of cleanliness. Phone was dirty.Dirt between wall and bed table.
We were able to check in early, which was a real plus, because we were between a very early appointment at the clinic, and a mid-afternoon appointment. We had no place to go, and with an infant along, we really appreciated the Kahler front desk allowing us to check in early!
The rooms need updating. This building must be mid-century, and has all the original bathroom fixtures, very old mattresses, and needed a thorough cleaning.
Staff was very nice
There was no heat. I called two nights in a row and was told blankets would come to my room by housekeeping. They never showed up. I shook and shivered all night long and when I got home had a cold. Ugh!
THE AVAILABILITY OF PLACES TO EAT WAS VERY CONVENIENT, BUT WAS REALLY THE ONLY ASSET TO MY STAY
ROOMS ARE OUTDATED
The location to the Mayo Clinic was second to none.
The housekeeping requires a lot to be desired. My room still had the bar of soap stuck to the bathtub from the previous guest. Dust bunnies and an dirty sock behind the night stand.
Good staff at desk
Bathrooms too small
Like location in relation to Mayo Clinic
Check in Desk--Reception is a NIGHTMARE--Long Lines & NOT enough help
The staff was helpful even allowing an early check in due to medical appointments. The room was more than pleasant for a hotel built in the early 1900's.
Confusion regarding parking fees and not having access to local TV stations without incurring an additional cost. Understood no cable was available in our room package but thought we would have local channels available.
I liked the location and easy access
old rooms ,,, no renovation... late services
You literally walked out the hotel front door and into the Mayo Clinic building. Staff were extremely helpful.
Our room service tray from our first full day at the hotel was still sitting outside our room when we left three days later.
Close to Mayo clinic.
Shower/bathroom was too small, doors to motel in parking garage didn't always work with room keys. Our room keys didn't work to our room either. Room was small and air conditioner didn't work very well.when reported my husband said to wait a bit as wife was in the shower but they didn't wait and came while I was in the shower. Ice machine on floor didn't work. When reported it was told to go down the hall. For being" GRAND" it didn't fit our expectations at all.
Rooms need major remodeling
The wood trim in bathroom was rotten
The bed was like a rock. The room was not sound proof. I could hear people talking in the next room, water running, flushing toilets, etc. They charge $14 a day to use their parking ramp. Anew company has bought this hotel and they are cutting corners according to staff.
Location receives the highest marks -Don't have to govoutside to get to appts, food, drink, shops. . . . Furnished hair dryer, iron, ironing board, refrig. Microwave, coffee pot. WiFi.. Rooms quiet. Don't have to leave hotel for food, drink, (though prices probably higher). Parking garage with validation.
Hot water too hot, scalding hot and very difficult to regulate hot and cold water. Room had no vanity or surface with a mirror to get ready for the day. Had a single old sink and mirror above in bathroom, and desk and chair with a mirror above in room, the only areas to do makeup, hair, etc.. Hotel staff incorrectly validated or didn't even validate parking as we had a balance.
Very clean, good treatment and excellent staff thank you
Needed a place close to Mayo, had underground tunnels connecting to the facility
best access elevator coming from the parking lot was "employee only" Dated hallways/room layouts. Glad that my day/night was packed so I didn't have to spend a lot of time there. Good enough for sleeping in.
