This is the best kept secret on the Big Island! The location was perfect for getting to Volcanoes Nat'l Park, South Point & Hilo. And the Kona side was only an hour away. The studio apartment was perfect and the hot tub was just icing on the cake. WE WILL BE BACK!!!
The Keanu Place is a real oasis, outside of Hilo near the Volcano, and unprepossessing at first glance, but beautifully well done with a jacuzzi, quiet rooms done up with a lot of detail toward the comfort of the guests. We used it as a base to explore the east coast of big island. The folks that run it love the area and taking care of weary guests. A real find.
Very quiet and away from the bustle of resorts. The room was clean and tidy and the internet worked well.
The checkout time was 10 am and we asked for an extra half an hour and were refused which seems churlish and unfriendly given the caretakers were on site.
This apartment clearly can't disappoint anybody: you will find everything you need in perfect condition - from the BBQ to the hot tub to all the amenities of the kitchen, bathroom and living room (not to speak of the large DVD collection and the washing room). You certainly know your place is well equipped when something unusual happens - in our case hurricane Iselle. Yet even without running water and electricity after our second day (the whole Puna district was concerned), this place still was great fun! That was of course not only because of the gas BBQ and a hot tub that keeps warm for days, but also because of the great caretakers, Brandi and Dallas, which are true professionals and know how to handle any situation! Thanks for a truly unforgettable stay!
Very clean, very good furniture, a lot of accessories in the kitchen. Good position to go to the National Park.
We would have liked to turn off the hot tub because of the noise with windows open and as we didn't use it in our 3-day stay. But actually we didn't ask about it, so it wasn't a true issue.
Everything we needed was available!! The hot tub on the patio was a wonderful way to wind down after a day of touring the East side!! Great location just outside of Hilo but also very close to see the black sand beach, Volcanos National Park and the a Hot Ponds!! We will be back for another visit!!
I loved it all
Having to leave because my trip was done
Very tidy Everything you need and more Effective A/C Very good selection of DVDs
Nothing that I can think of
Good location close to the National Park. Everything that you would think of was present. Hot tube was a welcome extra.
Wifi not always working very well and did not work on the porch outside. A lot of noise from the fridge, from the drainpipes outside...especially when it had rained, from the hot tub, from the dishwasher...
Very clean and quite, even with the frogs at night. close to Hilo and Volcanoes National Park.
No starter coffee or powder cream and sugar. we got in late and had to find a place to get coffee. Pick up supplys before heading there.
A nice place, welle quiped, with a spa! Good situtaion, bteween Hilo and the Volcano park
Spacious, clean accomodations. Enjoyed our own personal hot tub. They thought of everything..provided beach chairs, cooler and beach towels! Short drive to Hilo and Volcano.
They had a wonderful Weber gas grill and an adequate hot plate but wish they had a stove.
The studio is nice and well equipped.
We stayed at studio 1 for three nights and although it has a nice set up and it is well equipped we would not stay there again. During our stay we hardly got a good night sleep due to the set up of the drainage which creates an incredible unnatural noise. Also the window behind the bed does not have a curtain, so if it is not the noise, the light will wake you up. The location was okay but nothing exciting. The next time we are on the Big Island we will just stay on the west side of the island and just do day trips to the east side.
Size of the room and there was everything I could need
That I had to leave - very beautiful
The location is fantastic with an easy drive to Hilo, the volcano and black sand beach. The place is really clean and comfortable with added benefits including a BBQ and hot tub. We will definitely stay there again.
facility itself was excellent.
location was a bit remote. no staff of note and no info on the area available in the unit. Traffic jam every eve. due to road work.
I was skeptical because of the very affordable daily rate. I had thought it was probably too good to be true. I was certainly wrong. So clean, so quiet. It was perfect!!
1. Cleanliness of facility; 2. If you want quiet and remote you definitely will have that experience; 3. Probably ideal for a younger couple that wants to "get away from it all" and spend most of their time at Volcano National Park.
There was nothing really "bad" about the property but I do have a few items to pass along: 1. Need to travel a very congested road (Highway 130) to get to and from the property; traffic jams in the morning until 9:30ish and in the evening until 7:00ish; 2. Kitchen was OK but it didn't have a stove. Given it's distance from places to eat (other than fast food) you really do need to cook - had to use a portal electric burner that was provided. 3. Very erratic internet; 4. Not close to any "good" eating establishments - Hilo is 30 minutes away during non-rush hour via Highway 130 and Hawaii 11. 5. Studio was cute but small - one room without the ability for one person get up in the morning and close a door to let the other person sleep in. Again, no major issues but you do need to know what to expect.
They really pay attention to detail!. Fully furnished kitchen, nice jacuzzi, large room and patio area, spotless, free laundry. Everything new and working. Really great place!
Did not find anything we disliked
Location was good and it was clean. Was nice to have Wifi
Needs some ceiling fans to move the air around
Keaau Place is absolutely one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. Everything about it was perfect. In fact, we liked it so much we referred a couple who would be on the island longer than us, and it was already booked.
Everything was perfect -- exceeded our expectations.
Close to Hilo and 26 miles to Volcano. Quiet neighbourhood. Free/included washer/dryer, detergent, cooler and beach chairs. Own hot tub was great and gas barbecue. The caretakers were friendly and very helpful. Market in Keaau. The price was good value.
Road widening on the Keaau bypass means some delays. Hopefully will be completed by the end of the year. No oven but has toaster oven.
Accommodation was immaculate. Location was good for the Volcano National Park. Loved the hot tub and covered decking at the back of the villa.
None of the shops / eating places are within walking distance - you really need a car. We only stayed 3 nights which wasn't long enough to explore the Big Island
This is the best place I have been a long time, and I travel a lot, around the world.
