We love the Kellogg! It would be nice to have a fridge but it isn't a deal breaker! They always have plenty of ice and super friendly staff who know sign language!
Staff was extremely kind and polite Food (breakfast and dinner) was very good with many choices of dishes Comfortable and clean rooms
Location - in the neighborhood of the hotel (on the way to Metro station) very dirty street with garbage on it
Comfortable room, good beds, free parking.
No fridge in the room.
Quite and safty
The bus service to METRO trains and Union Station very much appreciated. However, weekend service is curtained to only 2 or 3 trips Sat and Sun.
Friendly staff in bistro.
None of the following myriad issues should have occurred in a hotel charging $300 night. This is literally the first hotel review we have ever written, despite being fairly frequent travelers. This hotel was extraordinarily disappointing. Room Issues: 1. We were given the wrong room. We paid extra for a room with a king sized bed. Were given a smaller queen room. The front desk attendant initially told us that a manager would just adjust the price when we checked out. When we went to check out we had to fight with the manager for an adjustment (which was ultimately given). Were told that the hotel does not guarantee the type of room, even though you can pay more for a specific bed size on booking.com. 2. The room we were given was somewhat dirty and housekeeping was not attentive to detail at all. Housekeeping left recycling (empty bottles) in our room. They didn't change the sheets. Left only decaf coffee in room. We were given multiple mini shampoos but no conditioners. Yet, housekeeping knocked on room at 8am while my husband was in the shower and I was brushing my teeth (neither of us clothed). We were very lucky to even hear the light knock. 3. The interior shower curtain was so short that did not keep water in the bathtub. The first night we were not provided a bath mat, so we used a towel. 4. Toilet paper holder not attached to wall. Replacement toilet paper roll jammed behind current roll making it impossible to turn. 5. Construction was going on in the hotel until about midnight the first night. Not terribly loud on the fourth floor, but disappointing none the less. 6. When leaving the room, we checked around and under the beds for any stray personal items. We found wrappers and litter from prior guests and it was extremely dusty. 7. This hotel sells wine and other goodies at the front desk, which was great. However, no prices were posted for the wine.
Very friendly staff who remember me whenever I check in.
Room was comfortable and kept clean. Catering staff were helpful and friendly. Wi-Fi was very good. Free shuttle was excellent.
Some reception staff were very unhelpful. We had problems with electrical sockets in room, we reported the problem twice, but nothing was done, so didn't bother anymore.
Great staff! Restaurant Beautiful surroundings Shuttle to union station
Staff not friendly and helpful
The courtyard lounge was wonderful for meeting friends.
There were no caption phones available in the room. The vibrating alarm clock didn't work. There was no instructions on how to contact the front desk. There was no food services for lunch and dinner on the weekend.
Beautiful grounds, lovely room, delicious breakfast, and complimentary shuttle. We have told several friends about the Kellogg and we will definitely be back for another stay!
The beds were very comfortable. The bistro/bar was nice. Good location if you have something going on at the college.
The shower was dirty and the bathroom in general had a sour smell. The remote is on a cable and has no on/off button nor does it have a channel button. We had to use the flash light on our phone to find the buttons to use the tv. Once we did get the channel changed there was poor reception.
doesn't serve dinner
This is a very comfortable, modern, well-managed and quiet hotel located about 12 blocks from Union Station, on the attractive campus of Gallaudet University, most of whose students are deaf. Its rates are much lower than comparable downtown hotels. If you don't have a car, there is a shuttle to the Metro (subway) at Union Station leaving about every 15 minutes--or is it a short cab ride to the museums and downtown businesses. Some may be put off by the surrounding neighborhood, which has a few sketchy areas that do not invite walking at night--but I was not put off, because this is a very secure, gated and quiet location--surely as safe as any hotel downtown. It's a real find!
Great, secure location. Nice staff and rooms. Willing to negotiate rates. So definitely ask.
Not too many meal choices. Have to go off campus. They do have a bus that can take you to places if you want.
shuttle bus to metro station
The shuttle bus into Washington, landscaped gardens, spacious layout and large rooms.
Lack of range of restaurant facilities in the evening.
The location was good for what we needed. The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly.
The room was nothing special for the price that is charged(Book early in order to get better rate). Breakfast was not included and not a good value for price. There was even a charge for the coffee in the lobby.
prompt service and the staff was willing and ready to work with us.
didn't like the sound of the club outside of the window even though we were on the 5th floor. could constantly hear car alarms and police sirens. parking had a walkway to hotel that was not protected from the elements. hotel was hard to find. found someone else's hair in shower and overall it just didn't feel clean. only one trash can (had to walk back into room just to throw away Q-tips). room service menu was a photo copy that had probably been copied too many times and some of the type was too faded to read.
The price for the location. We wanted to tour D.C. and the Gallaudet campus. The free Gallaudet shuttle makes frequent trips to Union Station. From there, we took the Metro wherever we wanted to go. That was very convenient!
Our room was very small. There was barely enough room to walk around each other. I doubt all of the rooms are that small, but it felt like we got stuck in a last choice room. Also, the TV picture had static-y lines in it, but we weren't there to watch TV, so it wasn't a big issue.
The bed was NOT comfortable.
Great location and great people.
We liked the proximity to the Capitol and the shuttle to Union Station which ran often. Our children loved interacting with the university's community on the shuttle. We had downloaded an app (Marilee signs) from which they quickly learned to sign basic phrases and their names. Thanks hey were so pleased and gratified to interact with hearing-impaired students. This was an outstanding value. All other comparable hotels charged +$100 more because of the Spring Break timing.
Our room was very large. We had a really large bed. There was a large fridge available for use. The decor was nice, historic pictures of Gallaudet university. The staff was very personable. You pay a lot less than in other hotels in DC but you get a lot more quality. Wifi was free.
The location was not amazing. First of all it is located outside the center, second of all it is located in the middle of gallaudet university campus, so it's quite a walk whenever you want to go anywhere. To be fair, the wheather was awful when we were over, it might not be so bad when the sun is shining..
