Just off of the trolley lines at union square. Easy to get to everywhere. Parked the car and use taxi to get around.

I checked in at 3 pm and discovered that my room was right next door to the maid's storage area. For the next two hours I was annoyed to have to listen the maids talking very loudly and banging stuff around outside my door. I was working so no big deal but right before 8 am the next day while I was still asleep it started again. At one point one maid was yelling very loudly at another maid right outside my door so I opened it at stared at them. They look surprised .. like oh yeah, this is a place where people sleep.
The hotel is in a beautiful building that was a former Elks Lodge. The rooms are on the small side but perfectly adequate, especially for a solo business traveler.

Prices are high
Location is terrific, music and sherry was an unexpected delight

Very friendly, accommodating staff. Room was expensive and in need of sprucing up, but hey it's SF on a weekend, and it was fine. Appreciated the AM coffee, small cafes for baked goods and juice right down the street. Wifi was really slow.

No restaurant in the hotel, so we had to leave the hotel for any food, even breakfast. When we asked about buying tickets for the Big b Hop On bus tours of the city (which was the one recommended to us by the desk clerk) we were told we could buy tickets at the hotel ahead of time. When we went to do that, we were told by the concierge that we needed to pay $13 to him at the hotel, then pay the remainder when we got to the bus. Hmmm. We declined, just because it seemed unnecessary to make two transactions. We later realized that the concierge received a kickback from every ticket he sold ($13). We just paid the full fare curbside with one swipe of our credit card. Probably lots of hotels do this, but it just didn't set well with us at the time. But there was no "hard sell" and the guy was still very friendly and helpful.
We loved the location.. One block's walk and we were catching the Union Square buses and trolleys. Staff was very helpful and friendly, even Housekeeping. Great coffee in the lobby and on several floors, as well as in the rooms. Rooms were small but very comfy and the bed was great. Loved the feel of a vintage hotel with modern comfort. The room rates were some of the best in the area, too.

Although initially quiet, the bar crowd came in around 2:30am. The management was quick to address the issue though.
This hotel was a good choice due to its close proximity to Union Square. It's surrounded by major upscale hotels, is clean and comfortable, but it has a decidedly European flair.

Extremely noisey after being told I would be given a special room on a higher floor. The hotel is old and charming and great location. Now that I have had the experience I will know the level of floor I would seek if available.
Friendly and helpful staff.

Only question was unloading my car onto the busy street, however David the Concierge was superb and very helpful.
I was fortunate enough to have an upgrade to the Royal suite at no additional charge.

No room service which is difficult when you are traveling alone. No air conditioning - if I had to leave the window open it would have been very loud with street noise. My room was very dark.
I liked the location. Staff was pleasant. Lobby was nice.

Rooms were a little small than we usually like. Bathroom could use a little updating
Location was 2 minute walk to Union Square, Staff was very nice and helpful

mini bar refrigerator would be nice supplement. I didn't need an air conditioner in April but on other seasons that might be a plus.
I loved the hotel, the friendly and helpful staff and especially the front desk agent Velichka who was always very helpful and friendly. I liked the spacious room and the benefits of being at the heart of downtown San Francisco. All in all it was a great experience and I recommend the hotel.

Had to check out. Wanted to stay longer
May 12, 2015
No AC and heater never turned off so it got really hot in room, no breakfast, parking way too expensive, could hear noise from other rooms
Cool old building. Comfy bed. Great location!

Feather pillows....but, that's my fault. They would have changed them.

They did not have our correct room when we checked in and said it was no longer available, even though I showed them our confirmation number! They put us in a terribly small, cramped room facing Union Square. We were there two night, could barely walk around the room because it was so tight. We did not sleep because of all the noise, very thin walls with NO insulation and screaming children in the room next door to us. Terrible experience.

The reception and hotel staff were courteous, welcoming and also fun.

I loved the music playing in the lobby on Wed and Fri. It creates a special atmosphere.
May 6, 2015
No breakfast including in room rate, higher room rate per night
Nice location, down town, close to shopping mall
May 6, 2015
Hotel is very old and rooms havent been renovated since 1980s. I'have never stayed such an old room like this. I also hate that old fashioned bathroom. Fulsh tank and shower faucet weren't working properly.
Location was great. Bad was very big and comfortable.

The price of $300+ was outrageous for a little room on the 6th floor.
May 5, 2015
The hotel looks stunning in the photos but in reality looks a little less spectacular and a little tired and dated.
Location is perfect if you want to be in the middle of all the action

Corner of Union Square.
April 28, 2015
Definitely the location!
April 25, 2015
No hot water for showers in the morning. No access sheet for Wi Fi on registering. This should be automatic . No amenities, no breakfast area, rooms small & pokey. Expensive given what it lacks.
Location & Bob the concierge are the stand out positive attributes of this hotel.
